We stayed here for 4 nights just before easter (2014), in fact we arrived the day the re-opened after a winter break. We found all the staff really helpful and friendly, and loved the location of the hotel, right beside a small beach in a little cove. We had a room overlooking the beach which got the sun in the morning and we loved sitting on our balcony enjoying the early sunshine, or a nice glass of wine in the evening. We dined in the restaurant every night and were pleasantly surprised, although it was busy at times all the food was constantly replenished, warm and very tasty. We thought there was an excellent choice at breakfast and in the evenings. We didn't go fully inclusive, but could buy any soft or alcoholic drinks we needed from the nearby supermarket. It is a pleasant 10 minute walk into Cala D'Or, which was another pleasant surprise. It has been quite a few years since we've been in Majorca, and were expecting a high rise touristy type place. It was far from it, low rise buildings, everything well maintained, and there was a good selection of restaurants, cafes and shops.
This is the third Barcelo hotel we've stayed in (thanks to Tesco vouchers) and we've noticed none of them have kettles in the room, so I recommend (as we've done) buying a travel one and bringing it with you.
We've booked another break in September and are looking forward to going back!

Room Tip: Beach view gets the early morning sun.

Just back from week with Husband and toddler. Overall nice holiday, second time in cala d'or. This hotel is in cala ferrera which is a nice wee walk into cala d'or centre. Cala ferrera has a nice beach, amusement parks (motorised cars/bikes, trampolines n bouncy castles, mini golf), restaurants, bars n shops. Overview of hotel: pros: great location just above beach, food tasted pretty good, breakfast good. sangria at inside bar lovely, staff really friendly and helpful in bars, restaurant and reception (thank you folks), nice clean hotel and rooms, rooms nicely decorated- not those awful gaudy bedspreads. Fridge. Nice shower. Plenty of English tv channels inc CBbbc if u need room entertainment- kids, sunburn/sick. Pretty good grasp of gluten free as had to ask for stuff a couple of times Cons: lots of steps down to beach (12 euros per day for 2 sun loungers and parasol), beach bar hike from beach, watered down drink I suspect and it doesn't serve food till 12, restaurant poor selection for example no selection of cold meats n cheese as in other hotels (we like to share a plate with wine), poor selection for toddlers - chips or pasta- no baked potatoes, more boiled or mashed a would be good and rarely served chicken- more grilled chicken would b nice, lots of turkey, lamb (tough) and pork. Toddler didn't like most stuff and he normally eats anything. Suspect table wine was watered down but tasted ok. No toilet on restaurant floor which is real pain if u have kids or emergency. Two out of 3 lifts broken at one point. One cocktail choice in all inclusive package only per day which weren't t nice(no piña colada). Room very very small, had to store cases in bathroom and move pram constantly. Rusty plug hole in bath, Twin beds joined together dipped in middle but very comfortable. No kettle or hair dryer. Shared balcony on 3rd floor which meant next door partied till late at night and used our furniture. Very noisy at night at times. Our room was below level of pool area so absolutely no privacy unless we pulled curtains (not best if seeking mid day refuge) curtains had holes in them (from moths?) heavy enough to black out but no option to just give privacy and let light in. The worst however was pool area, rectangular in shape and quite small, although there was a life guard and a cordoned off shallow end for kids there was no kids pool (there was a bath sized shallow pool but more for adults) so we wouldn't take a toddler in and spent no time here at all. Also had to give room number every time we ordered drink etc and toddler had to wear arm band too. Nice hotel but wouldn't go back due to room and lack of kids pool. Stayed in worse but stayed in better 3 star all inclusives. Pool was biggest let down.

Room Tip: Do not stay on third floor and do not stay at pool/ front of hotel if u have kids or like quiet time at night.

a bit late writing my review but we stayed at this hotel last september - the location of this hotel is great with all the lovely bars less than a 5minute walk away and the beautiful sea just steps away! yes i agree the food in the resturant on a evening was not the best but did that matter? we loved the food at lunch around either the pool or the snack bar overlooking the cove so sometimes didnt need to go for a evening meal. our room had a great sea view that was lovely on a evening just sat with a bottle of wine - we found the hotel to be spotlessly clean and staff very friendly. always entertainment on a evening and fast bar service with good measures! i honestly cannot believe what some folk have to moan about as me and my partner cannot wait to come back here in 6 weeks!

Room Tip: not ground floor

We have just arrived back from a weeks holiday at the Ponent Playa We have had an excellent holiday. The hotel was brilliant. Very clean and lovely location. Staff were great especially the two guys in charge of the entertainment. It was great value for money and would definitely recommend it. We didn't expect so much for a three star hotel. Cal a dor is beautiful and would suggest a stroll into the centre and down to the marina at Cala Longa is a must if you haven't been to the area before. The food in the hotel is excellent and when you asked for a glass of wine with your meal you were given a bottle. The view from our balcony overlooked the cove, so was very pretty. Pool area was also great. Would recommend this hotel without any hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Just back from the Barcelo Ponent Playa after 10 night all inclusive stay. The hotel is situated next to a white sandy beach, which is accessed by steps from the hotel. There is level access, but not from the hotel itself, and people with wheelchairs may find getting on the beach difficult. The hotel itself is fine for anyone with a disability though.
I cannot fault the food at this friendly hotel, plenty of choice with a varied lunch and dinner menu, though the cooked breakfast was a bit samey. My hubby said they cooked the best bacon of any hotel we have stayed in as it was crispy.
We went just before the busy season started, and only had a problem once with finding a table, but it could be very busy in high season I imagine. The catering staff worked non stop to replenish stocks, and the waiting staff were the friendliest I have met.
We had a 3rd floor room, which is level with reception, so did not have to use the lift or stairs which was good, but you can hear the chairs being moved in the dining room below. It opens at 7.30 for breakfast, so if you are a light sleeper and want a lie in ask for a top floor room.
The room itself was fine for our needs, the shower was excellent. The only thing missing was a hairdryer, but I took a travel one so was ok. The decor may be in need of updating, and the balcony is small, and not overly well maintained, but I guess that is due to the age of the building. The beds were very comfortable, sheets changed regularly, and the towels daily. The ladies cleaning the rooms were also very friendly, and kept everywhere spotless.
The entertainment was variable, much of it provided by the in house team who worked very hard, but be prepared for some less than professional miming. The inevitable parrots appeard for 10 minutes then spent twice that time having their photos taken, but that is par for the course.
The AI drinks menu is fairly extensive, the lager is Cruzcampo, which is fine. The soft drinks are very sweet, but the coke light was fine, and AI guests help themselves non alcoholic drinks. People have commented about signing for drinks, but it didn't cause us any problems at all.
If you want to hire sun beds and sunshade on the beach, it is 12 euros for 2 beds and the sun shade. One area of the hotel by the bar directly overlooking the beach also charges 12 euros for sun beds and parasol.but the beds by the pool are free.
It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Cala D'Or, but there are plenty of shops nearer to the hotel en route to the centre if you don't want to walk that far.
The starfish boat trips have a stop at the side of the hotel if you fancy a boat ride, and the hotel will provide a picnic lunch if informed the previous day one is required.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel, and found Cala D'or a family friendly resort, so would recommend it both to couples and young families. Not sure it is the place for singles, but didn't really check out the local nightlife.
Would stay here again, but maybe on a higher floor.
