“Wonderful holiday”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

I returned to the Hotel Cala Dor having stayed there 45 years ago. I loved it then and I love it now. The hotel of course has been extended and modernised, but it has retained it's traditional feel and warm friendly service. The resort is one of the most beautiful on the island and together with the hotel provided the perfect backdrop for our holiday. The hotel staff, in particular Carlos and Amber on Reception, were excellent, friendly and helpful. When our room electrics failed around midnight the problem was resolved within minutes and with good humour. We have travelled extensively across Europe, the USA, The Far East and Scandinavia and I would without hesitation put this hotel and resort close tot the top of my favourites list, and I just know that we will return there one day. Only one criticism, we would have liked tea making facilities in our room. Our shower was lovely, the room was very clean and a good size with huge balcony overlooking the pool and with a sea view. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Our room in the newest part of the hotel was on the ground level, close to the restaurant, which, by...

Have stayed at this hotel a number of times now, it really is in a prime location overlooking a lovely beach, within 5 mins walk of town centre but very quiet location. We have always managed to stay in the same room and this year we found it had been refurbished with a new bathroom with walk in double shower and quality fittings. The rooms are what we would describe as typical Spanish, perfectly adequate for all your needs. The breakfasts always have a very good choice and the dining room overlooks the cove. My only complaint is the lack of a mattress for the sunloungers as they tend to give me a bad back, never had a problem getting a lounger but that may be why !!

Room Tip: Go for high floor sea view worth the extra

we had spent 2 days of our weeks holiday in majorca over at playa de palma and it was a disaster so drove over to cala dor and checked into the hotel cala dor for 5 nights.
It was perfect, the staff, the location, the rooms every thing was just right.
we cannot fault this hotel. so good we are going again in september.

Great staff and excellent location for Cala Dor. The buffet breakfast was spot on and the hotel amenities were as per a 4 star hotel.
The trouble was with the bedroom.
It was small but could live with that if the en suite had been okay.
You had to step into the shower to close the en suite door. Ridiculous.
The room was so small that a sliding door would not even resolve the issue.
There were no drawers to put smalls into, but there was a room safe, fridge and TV.
The balcony was also a good size.
Good job we were only staying a few days as the room was a real let down.

Room Tip: Insist on a room with a good size en suite

Stayed here with my Husband for 4 nights, the 1st room they gave us was awful next to lift on the ground floor and very very basic so we paid for an upgrade which was much better the a lovely balcony over the little beach. We had opted for half board but the evening meal isn't a buffet you get 3 choices of food which is all a bit strange but ok, if your gonna book here just go for bed and breakfast there are lots of nice restaurants just round the corner with big choices of food. Loved the little beach but didn't use the pool, we spent most days visiting other areas and beaches. Love Majorca but would go to another hotel next time.

Room Tip: Pay more to get a better room.

I've stayed in this hotel on several occasions and love it whatever the weather. Its an old hotel but is full of character and has all the modern touches that you'd expect from a brand new hotel.Nevertheless the standard is superb and if you like a bit of Old World Glamour then this hotel more than fits the bill. The staff are excellent and if you like to have a LIGHT lunch by the pool the food is excellent. If you order the Club sandwich beware!! because it is enormous and it is a struggle to finish it, so best order one between two people. The breakfast are very good with lots of choices and service is top class. The pool area is lovely and never gets too crowded. A few steps down and you are on the beach. Wonderful location and best kept secret is the two lower ground rooms which have their own patio which is complete with sunloungers, tables and chairs. Great if you are a party of four.As I've said its a best kept secret so keep it to yourself!!!All the other rooms have balconies which are nice and are also furnished. The beds are comfortable, rooms are spotless, bathrooms are lovely. The maid service is superb and they leave a choccie on your pillow!! Nice touch. The location is great as you are only a 2 minute walk from centre of Cala D'or with all its lovely restuarants. This hotel is well worth the extra money but if you book early enough you can get some good deals with Expedia and Opodo so book early and then phone hotel direct requesting the rooms you want, preferably the two I mentioned or a seaview room. They have WiFi facilties and a beauty teatment service (massages etc) Oh forgot to mention, they have a large private car park as well which is just opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: Seaview or lower ground (Poolside)The ones with patios

Our complaint against the Cala D'Or and Classic Collection Holidays was upheld during formal mediation under AITO rules and a significant settlement awarded. There were human rights and health & safety issues from a hotel that claims to be 4 star?
I suggest you avoid both Classic Collection and the Hotel Cala d'Or.
No itemized bill at the end of the holiday - now why should that be when there are modern computerized tills? Regular clients get the best rooms - first stay clients get the dregs.
If you have bad knees or hips you will find the many steps a problem - 52 uneven steps from reception to beach, with a small lift that only covers 3 floors - and don't expect handrails on all stairways.
The cost charged by Classic Collection Holidays was excessive with no extras to explain why? The local hotel tariff shows room costs very much lower that those charged by Classic.
An old fashioned hotel that requires a full refit and modernization.
