“LAST MINUTE BARGAIN!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2010

We booked this hotel as a last minute bargain as we were booked up for the Maldives but unfortunately this got cancelled due to building works on the island!! so the travel agent, Thomson, brought up all the last minute deals and this was one. Obviously can't compare it to the Maldives but it was so much better than what i thought it was going to be! The food and drinks were all lovely, as we were all inclusive, the pool is nice and spacious and has a bar next to it. The private beach has stunning views and rooms were a good size. Not too much to do outside of the hotel nearby but the hotel put on really funny entertainment each night and with the flow of the free drinks we were happy. Got a great tan and made some friends at the same time. All staff were really friendly. Would go back.

We have just come back from a lovely holiday at the Hotel Skorpios we traveled with our two teenage children and sisters four teenagers, we had a good laugh with the entertainment team and the teenagers ended up on stage every night. The hotel was getting quiet as it was the end of the season but the Paoloa and Stefan the entertainers worked really hard to keep every one entertained. The weather was lovely every day that we were there and we swam from the rocks into the crystal clear sea each day which was gorgeous. The rooms were of quite a good size and were clean, although the towels were in need of replacing. Our only real complaints would be the food it was really basic and not a lot of choice also we were all feeling ill every time we ate it, although other guests that have stayed at the hotel say it is usualy good so perhaps it was because they were soon closing.

We have just returned (1ad 2 ch, age 3 and 11) from a six night break at this hotel. We had wonderful weather, which always helps - the hotel would be boring without the weather and we will definately return.
As a family we take several holidays per year and have been very lucky to have cruised on beautiful ships and stayed in 5 * hotels around the world. This holiday was literally a quick cheap getaway for us and we loved it.
You won't find towel stations and toiletries in the bathroom and plush pillows and interiors, however, you will find a spotlessly clean hotel with pleasant staff and a truly wonderful location, especially for children.
The pool beds are basic, you will need to do the very early towel thing in high season, but the bar is right next to the pool and you can have snacks here too.
The food again we found to be 'samey' and basic (the fresh homemade soups tho were delicious) but again, clean food, no worries about being ill and enough choice to be satisfied. A real shame that they did not serve tapas and more local dishes, it very much is catered towards british taste....complete with custard!
We only had two entertainers, as it was the end of the season (normally there is six) and they were both brilliant, my three year old totted off everyday quite happily for an hour to make 'a present for Mummy'.
They also had darts, football, archery, rifle shooting, shuffleboard, pool tournaments (for the over 13's but they let my son join in with every activity apart from the archery and rifles...) and in the evening, traditional entertainment of kids disco, bingo and then an act followed.
We never saw one person being worse for wear because of the all inclusive alcohol and we made some lovely friends.
I can highly highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for really great value (absolutely not a penny to be paid on check out......wonderful) and a lovely location with good staff. Just remember it is 3 * so the rooms are very outdated, but still with a tv and fridge (X factor was not missed!) and a full bathroom. Maid service daily and fresh towels the norm if you want them.
And the flies? Yes they are there, yes they annoyed us, would I down rate the hotel about them? Not a chance.

We stayed in the Skorpios for one week starting the 10th october.

On arrival our transfer from Palma airport was painless although the weather had just turned and was was raining and the minor roads to the hotelwere flooded in places.

On arrival our reservations regarding the hotel being only 3 star were unfounded. It was large, modern, and the reception staff were friendly. We were quickly checked in and were told to go straight to the dining room as lunch was almost over and would be closing. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety and standard of the food bearing in mind we were the last people in.

After we collected our cases and took the lift to the fourth floor to our room. It was simply furnished but more than adequate.
The view from our balcony was outstanding, just like all the brochures!
A beautiful view looking over a small beach and out to sea.

The weather improved and although not hot, was warm enough to sunbathe out of the wind and certainly good for exploring the small towns on Cala Engres and the larger Cala d'Or with its fabulous marina. Oh to have money!

The downsides: We were staying within 2 weeks of the end of the season and it was beginining to show. The standard of food and service visably deteriorated by the day. Tables were not relayed after the initial sitting so guests had to look around for cutlery to lay their own. Plastic spoons appeared instead of metal to eat puddings and sweets.

The rooms were not cleaned and only the beds were made. You were lucky if you got clean towels.
Complaints about flies were met with a shrug and requests for fly sprays were answered with 'sorry no fly spray'.
Evening entertainment was a sorry affair carried out by the inhouse animation team. The weeks prior to ours enjoyed visiting acts some of which were said to be good.

Would we stay here again?
We met some nice people among the mainly British guests and generally had a good time.
So, maybe, but not at the end of the season.

We stayed at the Marina Skorpios for one week all-inclusive in October. The hotel is very clean with pleasant helpful staff. On arrival we were given a road facing room which I swapped to a sea view room with no problem.
LOCATION - In a quiet area of Cala Egos with a small private beach. A few shops and bars/restaurants with 2 mins of the hotel. A stiff walk to Cala D'or takes about 30-40 mins along a main road. A road train runs from just outside the hotel to Cala D'or several times a day for 3.5 euros.
FOOD - On a first night the food choice was a bit poor with only a hot choice of chicken pie, lamb curry, fish fingers or pork chops, plus the usual standard cold salad and meat bar. The food choice got better as the week went on when some nights there was a choice of 12 hot meals. The breakfasts were good with English bacon and sausages. Drinks were also quite good. Snacks served at the pool bar through the day were great.
We would have liked to have seen more Spanish dishes.
ENTERTAINMENT - The usual standard of games and shows put on mainly by the hotel team. Not much to do away from the hotel, so I think some proper shows or entertainers would be great.
VALUE FOR MONEY - We travelled with Jet2 and paid just over 300 quid each for the week. So all in all was good value. Hotel as a 3 star is justified.
WOULD WE GO AGAIN - Yes, but would not pay more than 350 a week.
COMPLAINTS - A more consistant choice of food would be good, as I said before evening entertainment could be better. Only other complaint really is to do with our transfer from the airport to the hotel by Holiday Taxis included by Jet2. We were the closest to the airport so should have been dropped of first. The bus went PAST our drop off at Cala D'or and up the coast and dropped the furthest holidaymakers of first, and we ended up being last off. A journey that should take 45 mins took us over 2 hours. Not impressed with that at all Jet2. Bearing in mind I always book a resort within 1 hour transfer from the airport I will be making a complaint about this.

Just back from two weeks at the Skorpios Cala Egos. Weather was great, staff friendly and hard working. Food excellent and very varied , from local dishes to huge yorkshire puddings-what a Chef.

We walked to Cala Dor most days past the lovely Marina including Noddy Holders sleek boat. Went on a boat trip from Cala Egos and also to a new show in Majorca combining swing music and acrobats from the Pirates show. It was fantastic for a couple of wrinkly swingers like us. Most afternoons we spent around the pool area where the entertainment team worked hard for those that didnt want to chill out.
Unfortunately the evening entertainment was very limited and the worst we have ever experienced in Majorca. Us wrinkly Grandparents who love children remember the days when parenting was taken seriously and we dont wish to watch very young children running around the dance area and stage at 11 at night every night..

We escaped at night to the nearby Thomson Gold Roccamarine the second week and it was worth paying for the drinks to see the likes of Roy Walker of Catchphrase, Brenda Collins a very funny and talented lady , Graham Powell the complete showman with a great voice, and an Elvis and the Teady bears tribute.
Management must do something about the flies in the dining room, the terrible smell from the sewage plant in the corner of the grounds and have more professional acts at night but then maybe those who like to throw drinks down their throats from plastic tumblers never noticed.

this hotel was an excellent choice for the price we paid.It is definetly a Three star and in parts reaching Four star standards.Despite a terrible storm that polluted the pools and swept away walls and the beach, the staff did an amazing job keeping the Hotel running and getting the pools ready to use again. The food is good always something to please even the pickiest.Entertainment could be better but the Entertainment team are very good and work very hard and long hours. The hotel is a nice short walk from Cala Egos which has an assortment of bars and restaurents.A slightly longer walk or use the motorised train to the lovely marina and Cala Dor .It pays to ask for a Seaview room as the other rooms face the road and the seaview is according to my wife romantic.
