Went for 4 days from Friday to Tuesday. Staff extremly friendly and went the extra mile. Room clean and good size, pool area good, location quiet, entertainment variable but generally of good standard. Food was good standard but not a lot of variety but the curries were excellent. Yes there was a rush for the sun beds at 9.00am but it was good natured and a least you did not have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve the beds. Would definatley go again

I have been reading the reviews for this hotel and cannot understand how reviewers have come to their conclusion. I know everybody has their own opinion and would like to take this opportunity to give mine.

I shall start with the location. The Rocamarina is not in Cala D'or but in the area of Cala Egos which, as stated on the Thomson website, is about 2 km from Cala D'or. Cala Egos is a smaller resort than Cala D'or but has all the amenities that you need from the local Spar supermarket to numerous bars, restaurants and shops and is no more than 5 minute walk for the less mobile. The area can be as noisy or as quiet as you want. There is a taxi rank, bus stop and a tiny train stop in Cala Egos all going to lots of different beaches and locations around the area. Across the road from the Rocamarina is the small beach known as Es Forti which has a beach bar and sun beds and parasols for hire at a cost of around 14 Euros per day for 2 beds and a parasol. It is not the largest beach in Majorca but that's how all the beaches are in the area - small but clean and tidy.

Now on to the hotel - the Rocamarina is not really for people who are wheelchair bound or find it hard to get up and down stairs as there are several steps leading into the hotel and to the pool area, however there is a lift to access the two floors that lead to the bedrooms. When walking into the hotel the first impressions are spot on; the hotel is clean and tidy and the Reception staff very accommodating, willing to help and extend that extra bit of a welcome that is sometimes missing at other hotels. Their knowledge of the area is first class and no question or request is too much for them to deal with. Off the Reception is a large, comfortable TV lounge where there are daily newspapers for guests to read. The safety deposit boxes are also situated near to the reception; they are, as other reviewers have said, in the open and you have very little privacy when viewing the contents. The bedrooms are a good size with either double or twin beds; all are air conditioned and have a TV with a few select channels and a fridge at no extra cost. The rooms are cleaned everyday with clean towels being provided daily if required and bed linen being changed on a regular basis.

The restaurant is a good size and there is an outside terrace area to dine on as well. The food is a very good standard and is varied every day. There is ample choice at breakfast from the good old English fry up, to cereals, fruit and yoghurt, cheeses and ham etc. There is a wide selection of food every evening – for example soups, salads, fruit to start then a carvery, curry, different meats on offer which include continental style food and vegetarian options as well. There is always a good selection of desserts and cheese & biscuits as well if you have room left. I am sure that if you went up to any waiter or waitress and asked for something other than the norm then they would do their best to accommodate without any fuss. There is always something for everybody and contrary to belief it is hot as well!

The outside area is small but very friendly, housing a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds and tables and chairs. The pool is not very stylish but did the job and don't forget nobody under the age of 16 is allowed to stay at the Rocamarina so there is not going to be loads of lilos and splashing in the pool. In fact the only things in the pool were woggle floats that the older generation rested their weary bodies on! The garden area is peaceful and quite large with numerous sunbeds dotted around. Every review mentions sunbeds but as far as I was concerned sunbeds were plentiful and even after the 8:30 dash, well not dash but a slow walk, there were still enough sunbeds, if not around the pool then in the garden or on the roof terrace (maybe because you had to go up 2 flights of stairs to get to them).

All the staff, yes ALL the staff, were very polite, well mannered and were happy to assist you in any way possible from the housemaids, reception staff, waiting staff and bar staff. The entertainment team were very hard working and got amongst the holiday makers most of the day, keeping them occupied with games and quizzes and general chit chat; a very young but street wise team. The evening entertainment did lack a little; don't get me wrong there was something different happening every evening but the quality did lack in some areas but that’s not a bad thing as it lets you explore outside the hotel.
Across from the Rocamarina is the Tennis bar which is also owned by the hotel. It has its own little pool which is very quaint BUT you have to pay for the sunbeds. This was my only gripe and the hotel’s answer was that it was open to the public so a charge had to be made. Although the hotel do give a tiny discount to residents I think there should just be a nominal charge if residents of the hotel wished to use the sunbeds at the tennis bar.

Further afield from the hotel is the marina which is about a 20 minute walk along the shady tree lined path; the tiny train goes there and you can also get a taxi for around 6 Euros. The Marina is stunning with a vast array of different types and sizes of boats. I am sure it must be the most photographed place in the area. The restaurants and bars are classy but not too expensive.

Cala D'or itself has a lovely atmosphere with plenty of high quality shops and more than enough bars and restaurants to choose from. It is clean and tidy and pedestrianised and I felt it a safe place. A walk would take about 45 minutes but again the tiny train goes there and a taxi would cost about 6 Euros.

Overall I would recommend the Rocamarina Hotel for any middle age person if they want a slow moving, relaxing holiday without children. I believe that the only reason why it is not a 4 star is because the pool is on the small side and lacks a bit of character and the steps can be difficult for the less mobile.

I would recommend spending a day on Cala Mondrago beach – costs 5.00 Euros return on tiny train, but you can also get there by bus or taxi.

Regards to Steve & Linda who we met and were privileged to spend a few days with.

Hi,
I've just come back from this hotel and I must say it ticks most of my boxes. What a difference it makes to stay at an hotel and not have to suffer the trials and tantrums of children. I have grand children so I know the score and I'm not anti-kids, but I need a break now and then.
Every thing worked just as it said on the tin. The reception is staffed by people who can speak and understand english far better than I can speak spanish. The dining room is well managed with a good selection of food, enough to satisfy the most fussy of eaters.
The staff are all keen and eager to make your stay most enjoyable. I had no problems with the sunbeds, but I did with the parasols..not enough.
My suggestion was to allocate each room with a numbered parasol that could be collected poolside when required. I wonder if they will act on this?
I do have a few gripes;
Drinking water was overpriced in the dining room at 2euro 50 cents per bottle.

As for Majorca ( I have been going there for many years and will continue to do so) I think they have lost the plot with regard to overall pricing of consumables and services and if this continues then they will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I was standing behind a family in a local store. They were selfcatering. The utter shock and disbelief at the cost of their food stuff was very evident and they had 3 young children to contend with.
Its bad enough with the poor rate of exchange but to have to endure inflated prices as well, will surely drive people away from this wonderful holiday location.

As an example; An ice cream on a stick in one place cost 2.80 euros two minutes down the road I found I could have it for 1.60 euros Guess where I shopped?

A lot of shops and bars are struggling mainly due to these over inflated prices. People will only have two drinks instead of four etc....spending less =profits down.
So come on Majorca get your act together !

Spent a week here recently. It was advertised as Cala D'or but in fact its a 40 minute walk to there. Cala Egos where in fact the hotel is, is nice enough but small and once you've been round it there isnt a lot more to see. The food at this hotel was outstanding - there was nothing they didnt seem to have and it was all very good quality. Its easy to put on weight at this hotel, if you are greedy that is (and we were!!) The hotel is a 'no kids' hotel so we should have realised that this meant that the majority of the guests were on the older side (and we arent exactly young, being in our 50s). I've realised now that I think I prefer to hear the sound of children playing around the pool etc.

The rooms are nice - we had a superior room to the front of the hotel overlooking the pool. We couldnt be bothered using the pool at all as there was a gang of people every morning waiting for it to be opened so they could grab their sunbed. There werent enough sunbeds for the hotel and we ended up having to pay to use the other pool which is to the front of the hotel and which is nicer generally. Just a pity we had to pay when we had a decent enough pool at the hotel.

Cala D'or is lovely and well worth going to - the beach is difficult to find but not far from the town centre. Its best to ask where it is as there are no sign posts. Once you find it though its a beautiful little beach, though busy.

The hotel is nice if you like Thomsons reps entertaining you most evenings (loudly). The entertainment would definitely suit some people but not us. The food is fantastic (especially the famous bread and butter pudding which is to die for). The rooms are nice too and beautifully clean.

I wouldnt go back mainly because the hotel was a bit out of the way.

The Rocamarina lives up to its description. Spotlessly clean, well furnished, well decorated. It is situated in a lovely position with good pool and beach minutes away with a gentle walk through the tennis courts owned by the hotel. The food was fantastic, both my wife and I have wheat/gluten allergies but had no trouble at all. There is such a wide selection of starters, main courses and sweets buffet style. On one evening there were 12 diffrerent sweets as well as fruit and cheese and biscuits. Both the restaurant staff and bar staff couldn't have been nicer. There were some really good acts in the evenings especially two commedians and Ben Lake, an excellent tenor. The Gold Hosts worked really hard to entertain us all day but were on to a hiding to nothing with the silly games Thomson expect them to do in the evening between the resident duo Kudos (who were excellent) and the main act . They had a very talented singer in Cristian who had the audfience calling for more on the one night he was allowed to sing. Thomson should make more use of the talent of their Gold Hosts in their evening entertainment programme. The evening games were more like a Haven Holiday park than what you would expect at an adult only 4 star hotel.. Time to throw away the entertasinment manual Thomsons and think again. Despite that the holiday was fantastic. Lots to do locally with little train journey to Cala D'or and Calla Mondrego plus boat trip up the coast.. Also good express bus service to Palma each morning where the Cathedral is worth visiting The hotel is actually in Calla Egos not Calla D'or which is a good 20 minutes walk away. Call Egos has plenty of bars and restaurants open until the early hours. Visit Yates Bar for a fun evenings Karaoke and excellent food during the day. The big plus was having no children around and being able to swim in the pool without being bomb dived and really peaceful siesta in the garden with out the noise of kids. Do go you will love it.. One minus point the hotel could do with an internet point for guests as we all like to keep in touch when we are away.

We booked this hotel from the Thomson Gold brochure, then looked on Trip Adviser and were somewhat worried by the occasional less than complimentary review on here. I'm the original faddy eater! Having now been, all worries are dispelled. The hotel is cleanliness itself with all areas spotless and cleaned daily. The service from the staff is excellent - they can't do enough for you and they genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. The food is varied and good. Yes, there's a curry and bread & butter pudding with custard every night, but there are also at least three other choices for main course - roast beef, turkey, chops, fish of all kinds, pork loin, etc, etc, and varied night to night. You can start with soup and a roll. After the soup you can choose from a huge range of hors d'oeuvres - rice/pasta salads, ham, cheese, potato salad, etc. And there is a massive choice of puddings - mousses, cheescakes, trifles, ice cream, fruit (in addition to the bread & butter pudding), and cheese & biscuits if you want it. Dinner and breakfast are both buffet style and you can have as much as you want , and in any combination you like. There's a similar wide choice of continental or English items for breakfast plus fruit and bread, and, again, you can have what you like and as much as you like. We'll be back like a shot. Loved it, loved it. As it's a Thomson Gold there are no children, and you can have a proper swim in the lovingly maintained 25 metre outdoor pool. No problems at all with towels on sunbeds - never once had a problem using the pool.

Although the location of the hotel is a bit isolated our week there was good. The hotel is nice and clean but we did have issues with the food - rarely was the food hot, usually luke warm and very bland. There were only a couple of dishes in the whole week that I would consider appetising. The staff were good, bar staff were excellent and very hard working, particularly David. Entertainment was generally average with the exception of a couple of really good nights. The activities that the entertainment staff put on usually ended up with a couple of people being shown up for everyone else's amusement. Not hugely professional people - often got things wrong but thought they were great. The Thompson rep at the hotel (Ben) was a lovely young man - very helpful and courteous, spoke to everyone he could and went out of his way to be helpful (see picture). If you have booked to stay at this hotel, look out for Ben if you need any help or advice.
