We had an old room in block a. The rooms are really tired and I was not prepared to pay for an upgrade. If you book with Thomson you have to pay for air con on top direct to the hotel. Twice I had to ask to have the room cleaned properly and the towels changed. I had to ask twice to get a lightbulb changed. Every morning we had the ridiculous farce of the man (with an evil grin on his face) collecting towels and wheeling them off to the reception. One morning they took ours while we were doing stretching next to the pool. I argued that they should not take towels once the pool was open at 9am. They should make people wait until 9am to put towels out rather than the butters who were out at 6am. There were loads of spare sunbeds. I found the reception staff rude and unhelpful. They would recommend a private doctor when there was a free one down the road. The waiters are very friendly especially Rudi. The animation team saved the day, we looked forward to seeing Cesar every day and his mad aqua fit, he was a real credit to the place. The others were great to. The resort itself was very busy and many restaurants struggled to cope. I didn't enjoy the hotelas much as last year. There was a large group of us and we had a great time together. I wish the hotel would clean the pool area and sunbeds. I never once saw the beds being cleaned or the floor. Loads of kids had ear infections. The resort is starting to look a bit scruffy.

This is our first time self catering, thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room wasn't the best, over looking the main reception, but someone had to have it I suppose. The room was spacious, big balcony. My children loved the splash park and the jacuzzi. There is a great supermarket with bakery which we went at least twice a day. Closed to 2 beaches, Esmeralda beach was the best, quieter than cala gran. Loved Cala D'or plenty of restuarants to eat, and some nice shops. All in all a lovely resort, lovely
hotel and a great holiday. Looking at coming back here next year.

2nd time here as it was so good in 2012 so booked again through Thomson. It used to be 2nd place on Tripadvisor and is now 7th. The customer service is non existent. If you have any sort of issue, they basically tell you, "this is the way it is and there is nothing they can do about it. " There is never an attempt to rectify anything and they have an answer for everything! If you continue to complain, in the end, they will just tell you they don't understand, so it's a losing battle from the outset. Don't bother emailing in advance for room requests. We emailed 1 year, yes, 1 year in advance and still ended up in a poor apartment. They said they were full but looking around the other balconies, and the abundance of loungers, it was clear they had many other empty apartments which we believe they keep for the other Spanish, Dutch who visit here. On the whole, the apartments are clean and spacious with big balconies, the kitchenette is well equipped however the bathroom had a random smell of sewage which was very unpleasant at times. We believe this comes through the linked drains. The apartments offer entertainment and the spanish animation team do a walk round the pool numerous times asking you to buy tickets for their events. There is no pressure though and they will leave you alone if you keep saying no thanks! They also offer childrens activities and there are things for adults too however it was quite random so not sure how they run their program. The pool bar/cafe offers drinks, snacks, ice creams throughout the day but beware some of the kids ice creams are €3 which is not cheap for 2 or 3 kids. It's sad to see a place deteriorate, when it was once very good but unfortunately the owners just don't seem to care-literally!

Room Tip: Higher floors are better but you will be lucky if your request is granted!

I emailed the hotel twice before going to ask for a top floor room. I did not even get the courtesy of a reply so no points to them on that.

We got a ground floor room facing the car park which was actually OK as it was quiet and always in the shade. The room was basic in need of numerous minor repairs but clean and functional. We paid the extra for air conditioning and that worked fine to keep the rooms cooler for a good nights sleep. The maids did a good job of regular cleaning, and the reception was always friendly and provided good service. We tended to use it as a base so always ate out and did not try the food except for a burger one day, and that was fine.

Safe boxes (for a fee) are in what they call a secure room and this works just fine although only one family at a time are allowed in there.

A basement room has some games, air hocky, table tennis and others and was mostly unused from what I saw.

Internet access via PC's in the reception area or by WiFi (6E for 24hours 12E for 3 days etc)

The pool area was clean and there were a fair number of sunbeds, so around 4pm after a day out we usually found 3 for an hours use before readying for dinner. The water fun area for youngsters is turned on and off at half hour intervals and looked a great idea. For beach access leave via the gate to the rear park area. Turn right and follow the road around to get to Cala Gran or left to get to Cala Esmeralda. They are similar distances and close. We found our favourite was Cala Serena which is past Esmeralda and Ferrara, but quick to get to by car. All beaches looked good.

The local Supermarkets are fine for basics, but if you really want to get the best deals use the superstore on the main roundabout you hit on arrival at Cala d'Or. Use google maps, the roundabout looks like a dartboard from above!

There are restuarants nearby but we always walked into the main area of Cala d'Or as there is a massive choice in the pedestrian areas and around them. One that dissapointed was called La Sivina. The Foods is OK but the portions are far too small and for the price you leave feeling you have been done and half fed! Only their pizza was a decent size - There are places better with almost twice the size of the portions at lower cost elesewhere. You will find it all but empty when others are fully seated indicating the amount of return custom they get!
We ate at Remo's (Italian at a crossroads), The Pirate, Indiana Johns, Taste of Texas,
Restaurant Different and one other that I fail to remember! Gusto or something, best avoided.

I have been staying at these apartments for the last 12 years and this year was by far the best. The entertainment for both adults and children was very well organised and enjoyable, my husband especially enjoyed the aqua!!

We stayed in a superior apartments and the only challenge was having no bath for our 4 month old but by the end of her stay she enjoyed the shower.

We will be back next year!!

The location is great for a beach holiday - close to several beaches, restaurants and shops. The pool area is nice as well as the playground. The room is comfy and the kitchen quite well equipped. It was excellent value for the money. The only minuses are the expensive wifi and the fact that there was only one laundry machine in the whole huge hotel and no booking system.
