Our party consisted of two adults & 3 children aged 15, 7 & 3 years old (all girls) and our holiday was from 22/08 till 04/09.

We booked directly with the hotel & found correspondence quick & co-operative. Upon confirming our booking we were required to pay 20% with the balance being payed the day before we travelled.

As with our previous holiday we booked a private transfer with JANERBUS, which cost €210, including child seats. Travel time from the airport took about 35-40mins.
We arrived at the apartments at midday and the reception was quiet and we received prompt & polite service. However, we were told that because our eldest daughter was 15 she was classed as an adult and we were requested to pay an additional fee. Fortunately, I had a copy of our booking which clearly stated the children's ages & the cost and to be fair they agreed, without fuss, to honour the booking.

Prior to our arrival we had requested a room in Block B on either the 2nd or 3rd floor. Our room was on the 2nd floor of block B facing out onto the adjacent apartments & garden area, so we were very happy. Of the 116 apartments in the complex, I counted about 20 which had pool views. So I feel you need to be realistic when when placing your requests. I have seen the photos of the basement apartments & feel that if these should be offered at a reduced rate to all the others.

Ours was a 'standard' apartment and we found it to be clean & well kept, although it did require a bit of a makeover. As there were five of us, we did find that we had limited storage space. One large wardrobe in the bedroom (plenty of hangers), two bedside tables & a dressing table. We placed the extra bed in the bedroom and whilst it was a little cramped, we found the space quite manageable.

The living area was adequate and my daughter didn't complain about sofa bed, I won't go into the details as you can view all this on the website. One thing I will say is that although we were half board I think it will be a struggle if you were self catering as the hob & sink area is quite cramped. There was also no drain board and you had to rely on an absorbent mat under the rack.

As mentioned, we stayed half board and whilst we found the food to be edible, there was limited choice and often we struggled with getting the kids to eat and you often found the food to have dried up under the heat lamps.

We never had any issues with any of the staff during our stay. A small hardworking team who were always happy to please and we would like to thank Rudy, Iñaki, Claudia, Andrea & Melany for making it such a pleasant stay. As mentioned in other reviews the prices are pretty high but we never found them to be extortionate. We had read about a lot of kids getting ear infections from the pool & took precautions. Whilst we were there we heard further stories of several kids with ear infections but never once seen any maintenance guys checking the quality of the pool water. I have rated overall cleanliness as 'average' & this is purely down to the pool. All other communal areas & the apartments were kept very clean.

Our small children loved the kids club & the Animación team. Once again, many thanks to Magda, Jessi, Edwin & Maximo. However, a note for the team, some of sketches in the 'comedy' show we found to be too sexually provocative considering the young captive audience and we felt they were totally inappropriate.

I'm afraid we were not blown away by the resort. In recent years our holidays have been to the North of the island, Puerto Pollensa & the Port of Alcudia, both of which have huge stretches of beaches . We only visited the beaches at Cala Esmerelda, Cala Gran & Cala D'or and whilst they very scenic they we were small & very busy. One thing I would like to point out to the elderly or those who have a disability. If you exit the apartment from the rear, the road which leads into the town is quite hilly & the pavements are in need of repair.

All in all, we loved the apartments but more than likely will not return because we were not that keen on the resort, however, never say never and once again, many thanks to all the staff at The Cala D'or Playa Apartments

We met my daughter, son in law and the grandchildren for a week of their 2 week stay. Although this is not our usual type of holiday to say we had a great time is an under statement. Fantastic for the children, close to the beach, shops and restaurants. The children enjoyed the entertainment however not so great for the adults.
Upon arrival at 02.30 am we asked the receptionist if there was any where we could get water and milk for a cuppa and they provided us with both at no charge. We requested a room near to our family which we received and got an apartment that had been updated. The resort is clean and staff are friendly and helpful.
Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas so no problem if you fancy a lay in.

Room Tip: Block B 123

We had a lovely time staying here. A good sized pool and there seemed to be enough sun beds if you get up early to reserve them!
There could have been a bit more storage space for clothes but the room was a decent size. Our room had a shady balcony for most of the day but that wasn't a problem for us. Good location for esmerelda beach which was beautiful and town centre which had loads of restaurants and bars.

We stayed 13th - 27th August which was our second stay hurt booked for third consecutive year for August 2014. Totally meets our needs we are the mum and daughter team who take my disabled son!! Great location, good for families, my son enjoyed the children's activities and was included so well this year. Everyone could nitpick about small things but a real value for money complex!! We book with Thomson's so if others do you need to be aware that air con isn't included in your price!! We plan for this but can imagine its a surprise if you are unaware. We love the complex and Cala D'Or. We find the reception staff accommodating and polite but as I say individual comments on here are just personal opinions. Important note is that this complex gets year on year lots of repeat customers we met many this year again that we saw in 2012. That tells you a lot about the place. As I say booked today so will be back next August x

Upon arrival we were given room 001 from the worried looking receptionist, she obviously knew that the room was not good! When we entered i understood why, a rusty old fridge with no working freezer compartment, water damaged kitchen units and possibly the worst outlook in majorca. We faced directly against a wall with dirty old towels thrown in the soil on the ground.
As we went out to view this, we saw another family in room 002 with equally dissappointed childrens faces who explained that it had ruined their holidayhaving such a poor vista!
We tried to be relocated but the receptionist was of no help at all unless we gave her another 400 euros to help us.The rooms are really noisy and if anyone in the whole block flushes the toilety it sounds like a tsunami in the bedroom. In short these rooms should only be used for luggage storage just not acceptable for hard working families who have spent a lot of money for a good holiday!!!

Room Tip: Book elsewhere!

I have been to these appartments every year for six years.I have just returned home and rebooked for 2014 within two days of getting back home.I visited with my family group made up of adults and children. As allways our rooms were very clean, the whole area was spotless and all the family enjoyed their stay.We opted for self catering and had meals and snacks from the hotel bar and nearby restaurants. These appartments are great for family groups with children. There is a very nice pool, bubble tub, toddler pool and mini water park. There is also a childrens play area.We have stayed in many appartments and hotels but we have found that these are the absolute best by far. There are supermarkets nearby so self catering is easy as everything you need is within a few minutes walk away. You can now upgrade at extra cost to bed and breakfast or half board. There are plenty of places to eat around the resort .These can be expensive. The food at the appartments is good and reasonably priced .Ice creams and lollies are expensive though.Watch out at some of the restaurants as you may be charged added tax and or table tax. This can add a lot of money to the bill.ALLWAYS ASK before you order. Also watch out for the buy one get one free offers at some of the cocktail bars.We paid 36 euros for two cocktails.Admitted they looked very big with several straws but inside was a smaller container. The appartments have an animation team that takes care of entertainment for the children and adults. There is a spanish night with food, drink and a bouncy castle.I have never found a reason to fault this place but I did identify a couple of problems this time. When ordering meals or snacks you can order at the bar and pay or order through a waiter and pay after. In the past we have allways done both. This year we ordered meals and paid at the bar.We were later on asked why we had not paid for our meals.Luckily my husband insists on obtaining a reciept which we produced as proof of payment. My tip here is to ALLWAYS ask for a reciept and keep it safe. Some other guests told us that this had happened to them several times. The other problem was that a very strong stench of raw sewage came and went throug out our stay. The lady on reception said that it was the same all around the resort.I can honestly state that we went all over the resort and did not smell it.It was so bad that some people were wretching. The hotel managment need to address these problems. We are looking forward to going again and are keeping our fingers crossed.
