5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

We have stayed in Club Martha's 4 time now and are going back in July. I can't wait.

There is loads to do whether your a family or a couple. The entertainment is brilliant they all work really hard.

The staff are friendly and the recognised us from the previous times that we have stayed and i like this as you are made to feel very welcome.

We stay in a studio and it has all the amenities you need to make your stay comfortable. The beach is 5 minutes walk from the hotel and there is two beaches both lovely and very well kept.

There is plenty of nice place to eat we like to go to Tony's bar which is just around the corner and the food is very nice.

all in all it is a great place to stay and i would recommend it to everyone :)

Room Tip: We stay in rooms at the back of the hotel as they have a nice view of the sea.

We stayed in October for 1 week with our 3 year old boy. There is entertainment an activities throughout the day but he was a little young for the activities but he enjoyed the shows that are put on. The apartment as very clean and spacious. I was pleasantly surprised.

we arrived around 10pm the staff were kind and helpful got us checked is quickly. the one bed apartment we stayed in for 3 nights was very spacious and comfy. I already knew in advance about tv and kettle, but we spend most of our time out and about so that didn't really affect us. The apartment was ground floor which was nice as we had our own garden area.
The pool areas were well kept and there is also an indoor pool which was a god send as there was a storm one of the days we were there. The children's park could have done with a bit of a revamp.
We watched the evening entertainment one of the nights it was slightly odd but my six year old loved it.
There are a few shops nearby and lots of bars/ restaurants also you can catch the land train for a few euros into cala dor.
Its only a few minute walk to nearest beach.
it was the first few days of half term when we stayed and still plenty of places still open the weather was about 25 except on the last day there was a storm.

We won't being going to Majorca again in October half term - but at least on the occasion we did (October 2012) I suppose it was better than being in UK and the kids can at least they say they went abroad.

In summary:
1. Majorca in October half term was closing down due to end of season, and very cold pools and weather just turned from being sunbathing warm. But definitely would recommend Majorca.
2. We wouldn't go to Club Martha again, just mediocre and plenty better looking hotels in area
3. We won't use Travel Republic to book a holiday again
4. Avoid Goldcar spanish car hire

But don't think we are all negative - read on:

October half term in Majorca was not warm enough. 15-20 degrees. Whole area closes down 28th Oct!? Few restaurants bars or shops.

Weather was not hot enough nor very sunny. Just pleasant 19 degrees. Became progressively windy too. "Go to Canaries" was our advice but we took a punt for 4 of us half board all in with car for £950. Less than half compared to Canaries. At least it was not 6 degrees like UK. Pleasant enough for adults but shame kids could not have had more heat. Oh well, we know for next time. Definitely the end of season. Shutting up everywhere - shops, bars, restaurants, very unfriendly feeling. Last day we were there, it all shut up, being 1st November.

And Travel Republic and Hotel did not warn us. Bad bad bad.

BOOKED WITH -

We booked with Travel Republic. Debit AND credit card charges, so beware. But otherwise ordering process was ok (though they overlooked sending us car hire voucher and we had to chase them, and they caused us the car hire issue below. Google 'Travel Republic' - we didn't but having now done so now, we won't use Travel Republic again.

FLIGHT -

Thomson flight. Silly inflight prices. Few smiles (make an effort to promote your employer as there is a huge queue of unemployed people who would) from crew and check-in, and only 5kg hand luggage allowance. But otherwise ok.

But don't pay in euros in-flight, their rate is 1.8e to £. Scandalous.

CAR HIRE -

We hired a car as part of the booking of our flight. HUGE mistake. Goldcars - remember the name GOLDCARS - charged us 85e as the cost of a full tank of fuel for a Fiesta. Crazy charge and not at all expected via HolidayAutos who TravelRepublic obviously contract out to. And it got worse. They then said we didn't have complete insurance for damage caused to us if no perpetrator could be found. Including scratches. Another £45. SO - avoid Goldcars, and any car hire via TravelRepublic. You have been warned. Tell 10 friends. Go to USA and prepaid means all inclusive.

As for the eventual (£200 for the week) car, we got a Ford Fiesta. It was fine. Good way to trial a car - No, as suspected, Ford is not for me. Having rented a car, we saved transfer costs I guess, so helped with the rip off car charge.

Drove to the Club Martha Hotel which was easy to find, no need for a sat nav on such a small island. Located on a side road it looks fairly posh but then again so does the whole of Cala Egos and Cala D'Or areas. We were impressed with the towns and countryside after Cyprus, Kos and Turkey, as we were expecting more half built/ruined, but not a all. Looked very nice, could certainly come again as our first impression.

HOTEL -

On arriving, Hotel Reception kept us waiting 35 minutes for the maid to clean beyond the 2pm check-in - earliest in Majorca - which was bad. No 'welcome, hello' greeting, but what the Travel Companies must pay the hotels I guess I can understand.

Room was great, and with a kitchen. Half board and a kitchen too. We asked in advance of arriving for a room away from the evening noise of entertainment.

Sadly there were immediate deficiencies spotted, that even a UK Travelodge get right. Tv was extra, no tea/coffee, no bathroom cosmetics. Another frustration was that Wifi was 20e a week. Paid for 3 days for 10e. Disconnected all the time. And a safe was 14e a week. Won't hotels understand that people get safes because we don't trust THEIR staff. So make them free.

But certainly clean rooms and comfortable beds. And full a/c. But maid service was very poor. Both the quality and (Thursday to Thursday stay) they only came in twice. Ropey towels and blankets. Kids beds only had bottom sheet replaced on sofas. Had to do rest.

Hotel has loads of rooms. No main inside area just a large foyer, but tad clincal feel to be friendly. No shop, but two Spar Shops up the street.

Attention to detail around grounds was fine on the whole. Sun beds had static low head position. So hard to read. Bit worried that in hotter weather, few sunshades would be available, as they were put in holes in ground, few and far between.

Pools (3 and very nice looking) were very cold, pumping cold water in too (so begs question even peak summer would they be cold) but warm small indoor pool was saving grace. But despite cold (our kids had wet suits) we just had to swim, sun on most days warm enough to sunbathe with clothes on. Trick - sunbathe on balcony as caught all sun with no wind.

Not a 4*, more like 2* though.

MEALS -

Meals were so bland. Have they heard of spice/flavours?! Nothing under cooked, and unlimited supply, but continental breakfast had no warm croissants or pastries, all cold. Meals were just boring repetitive choice. Limited choice too. Chips, roast chicken, nothing Spanish. Wasn't convinced much was fresh apart from lettuce, and even that was iceberg. Fruit - apples were furry, and bananas were bruised. Ok pineapple and oranges though. But all edible and unlimited, so would not go hungry I suppose, but hardly the point. Just felt there was no catering effort at Club Marta.

They had a cafe to also eat at but meal menu was very poor. All looked sparse and plasticy.

Breakfast had continental foods, and hot food was perhaps a bit odd (baked beans, carrots, cold rolled pancakes, half tomatoes, buttery scrambled eggs). No fresh juice, all tasted like squash. Coffee machine was good, but presumably not fresh, but liquidised. Seating area was big and clean.

Puddings were fine. But the same every night. Dinner you paid for drinks. Alcohol was ok, but soft drinks 2.2e from a machine, and 1.7e for water from a plastic bottle.

Glad only there for a week, as any longer we'd crave fresher food. Had to keep fresh juice in our fridge. But at least it saved us cooking. But with supermarket prices similar to UK, we'd should have gone self catering.

That said takeaway pizzas from the cafe were nice.

KIDS -

Evening mini disco for kids was poor, hour long, we felt the presenters liked their own voices and the spot light. For adults, er bad. No external acts, all resort staff produced. Gave it 10 mins the first night then we didn't come back. Maybe peak season it is better.

EXCURSIONS -

Had a car, so we went to Cala D'Or, Felantrx, Porto Colom, Palma. All very nice, and we explored the local beaches.

Petrol was same price as UK, but had no need of any after paying 85e for a Fiesta!!

CHECKOUT -

As suspected no concluding sentiment 'have a nice flight'. Hotel closing day we left. Previous evening not enough people to have regular buffet. Ate in cafe mentioned above. Yuk food, sorry but true. Not warned hotel closing or cafe food on offer. No breakfast on offer last day, just two picnic boxes of food and bottle water - we just had to leave.

AIRPORT -

Pleasant, but food prices sky high, 11e for fast food meal. Bring your own. Water 1.8e for 500ml so not too bad.

Could not recommend hotel, or who we booked with (including car) but geographical area was very nice so pleased we discovered Majorca, pleased kids enjoyed their time, and we avoided very cold/wet UK weather in October, so we will come back again to the area in warmer months.

Great hotel, with helpful staff. Always clean and well maintained, good food my only draw back is that the entertainment ,which was good started to late. Its 5 minutes walk to the beach, its in calegos which is 20 walk to Cal'dor. There are some usual holiday shops selling towels, suntan lotion ect and some supermarkets. lots of bars and restaurant.

Room Tip: away from the entertainment stage because it starts late it goes on late.

Visit 28 Oct - 2 Nov. - B&B
As always we were a bit apprehensive as we were trying a new place and there are always negative comments against every hotel/apartments. We found the public places and our 2 x 1 bed appartments immaculately clean, and all the staff helpful and friendly, happy to give advice on bus times etc for days out. The free nightly entertainment put on by the staff was energetic and in parts very good. (there were other places on site to drink if you really took a disliking to it). The breakfast was more than acceptable, with cooked food and cold.
Due to a particularly nasty storm on 29th, the local beaches were less than appealing but I am sure this would be soon resolved. The staff worked extremely hard to clear things up and to get things back to normal the next day.
Overall, a extremely pleasant stay - would happily go back again in the future.

Tips. From the outside, the studios looked as if they might have been a bit dark so well worth the small fee for an upgrade (cost us £30). As has been said before, the resort appears to close down at the end of October, although we still found a small choice of restaurants on our last night.
Please bear in mind, there are no toiletries provided and you have to hire a kettle if required. You also have to pay for TV access - why not do without for a week!( we were aware of these charges and took our own travel kettle).

Room Tip: If you want to avoid the in house entertainment, go for block 1, which overlooked the 2 main pools...

We visited at the end of October. The accomodation was nice, the pools and facilities were okay. We were half board, the food was average and a bit of an odd choice at times, e.g. brocolli, sprouts and peas for breakfast!!! Desserts as usual were pretty poor.

There was a major storm that hit the island during our stay which cut power for about 4 hours, BUT the staff still managed to put on an evening meal, with candlelight.

There is a smallish commercial centre in Cala Egos, with enough places to eat and drink if you are self catering. The local beaches are nice.

The entertainment wasn't great - the mini disco started at 8:30, finished about 9:00, but there would then be another hour and half before the main show started. Every main show then went on about 20 minutes too long.

A word of warning, especially if self catering - ALL supermarkets in Cala Egos closed for the season on 31st October.
