“Quiet Hol for Grumpies.”
Reviewed 14 April 2010

A friend and I booked last minute with holidaysdirect for a four day trip and had a studio apt.
After downloading all the reviews on here I was a bit dubious about our stay but was very pleasantly surprised. Yes you end up in Calla D' Egos and yes you end up in an apt on club martha's but I think those are plus points. I went with one friend (we are both in our fifties) and had no problem with separate single beds. I did hear neighbours pushing beds together and that must have worked for them. They are proper beds with a backrest you can put in place for sitting. We didn't bother hiring anything and ate out all the time but in hind site we spent as much as we would have done going all inclusive and the food in the buffet hall looked very good. The staff are really polite , friendly and helpful, I have no complaints. The kids club team seem like a bundle of laughs and the children that were there seemed to be having a grand time with three club events a day.
In my opinion Calla D Egos is much nicer than Calla D' Or, we went up to Es Forti and Pou beach was lovely, no poo. We walked a lot and enjoyed the quiet tranquility. We were lucky with the weather and there were quite a few other middle aged couples heading off into the uloo with their back packs in the morning. Such a beautiful area but not much to do and it was wonderful to have that enforced relaxation. On the other hand I wouldn't want to go there high season. Best places to eat in our opinion were the tex mex place and one up the road which was called something like Tento (????) had a beautiful fish soup in there for lunch and wonderful fish meals in the evening.
Overall I thought the area was expensive, we easily got through £25 a day with food and drink but it was our choice not to self cater. I think if you want quiet wonderful peace go before may and if you want egg and chips and watneys red barrel , go in high season. :)

Booked a week at the Es Bolero as a last minute break before my son went back to school and my wife started a new job.
We had stayed at Club Marthas before and as the Es Bolero is part of the complex we new it would be ok.
We booked a studio apartment and on reflection we would have been better in the 1 bedroom option as it was a little small for the three of us, would be a definite no,no for more than 3. The room was basic, the kitchenette had a 2 ring cooker and I believe you would struggle to cook a meal, but the bathroom was finished to a high standard.
The room was kept clean with regular towel changes and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Kids club is great with activities for all ages. Space by the side of the 2 main pools is at a premium but there is a third pool which doesn't seem to get as busy.
There are plenty of good eating places in Cala Egos and found a fantastic Pizza restraunt called Il Padrino run by 2 Italian guys, there are plenty of pizzarias in Calla Egos but these are of the highest quality. They also do Take away which is great if you just want to head back to your room if you have little ones.
All in all a good value break in a family orientated Hotel situated in a quite resort with just enough bars to keep you busy.

We booked a weeks holiday at the Es Bolero Apartments through Sunmaster. Flying from Edinburgh we paid £375 per person(which included,Flights, baggage&transfers) so we weren't expecting it to be outstanding.
We were staying in a studio apartment, which basically consists of a wee livingroom with a single foldaway bed and a couch which pulls out to another single. This we didn't mind as we just pushed them together and it was comfy enough. We did request to have a high floor but unfortunatly we got a ground level room which is meant to have a "Terrace" but basically this is just an area where there is a couple of plastic chairs that anyone can walk through.
We arrived to a very clean room with a modern bathroom. The maid came in every other day to change sheets, towels and to clean the apartment.
Be aware before you go, that you have to hire most things for the room. The safe key cost us 15E for the week.. You also have to hire toasters, kettles,tv remotes, etc. We didn't bother with this as we were only using the room to sleep but they cost about 5E each to rent for the week.
The complex is very good, you get to use all the facilities within the Club Marthas. Pools were nice, but you had to be there before 10am to get a sunbed close to it. We didn't really eat in the hotel, had a pizza for lunch there and that was nice. Drinks not much dearer than the bars and the cocktails were actualy cheaper in the hotel than the bars near by.
Club Marthas is actually in cala Egos, the complex is just round the corner from the main strip of bars and restuarants and about two minutes from the Es Forti beach.
We walked to Cala D'or and it only takes about 20mins if you dont go the main road ways that is. Cala D'or Marina is really nice and is only 10-15 minutes walk from here, we ate here two nights and all the restaurants here are very busy!
If you dont fancy walking you can catch the road train which runs from Cala Egos to Cala D'or. It only costs 3.50E for a return ticket and its a nice wee trip aswell. But in all honesty Cala D'or is the exact same as Cala Egos but on a slightly bigger scale - your not missing much if you dont go there.
A good holiday was had by both of us, would go back again!

I would recommend this place to anyone, we had a fantastic one week holiday. The place is part of club martha and the staff cannot do enough for you. We had a problem with our transfer to the airport and the reception sorted it straight away for us without us ringing around the agencies. Any questions were always answered in a welcoming and polite manner.
The pools were great and the night entertainment was fantastic. The snack bar was found to be fullfilling and most reasonable in price. I would definately choose this place again. Apartments were clean and substantial with great views. No complaints.

Be careful of the cheap studio apartments; they're not suitable for couples and the ones we saw were cramped and had no private terrace, balcony or outside space. Their table and chairs sat directly in the alleyways of these apartments.

Also, the entertainment staff live in them and they are not the tidiest of people so you have to dodge leftover food, fag ends and empty beer cans as you go.

We stayed in a first floor bedroomed apartment which was better but still very basic with zero frills. We shared our balcony with the neighbours as there was no partitioning between the two.

But we did like the Club Martha complex in general and enjoyed the facilities.

There's not much to do in Cala Egos itself. It's a purpose-built resort that lacks any real character. Also, the beaches have tiny, tiny shorelines that get really overcrowded. There are some lovely other beaches in the area, though, if you're prepared to venture out a bit.

We recommend nearby Tony's for good hearty food at very reasonable prices.

We booked through Globallatedeals.com and had no trouble whatsoever.
We arrived early hours of the morning and wondered if is was the right Hotel as it showed the name "Martha's" on the outside but it was correct and a lovely surprise. The reception staff were great and all spoke good english. We had the hotel map given to us, which gave us a good idea of what was on site: Martha's Bar, Restuarant, three swimming pools (indoor heated), tennis court and the location of the accommodation blocks which was really helpful. Our room was in Block D (room 4202) which overlooked the tennis court, was really peaceful and caught the sun until about 4pm everyday. We would recommend breakfast at either Eddy and Pauline's at Aries or at Tony's both just around the corner from the apartments for good english food. Lunch at Indiannah Jones in Cala D'or centre which have a large selection of Indian/Thai Danish dishes and Dinner at Beatriz for a lovely meal. I can recommend the chicken fabulous. We loved the walk around the Marina into town and had a laugh riding on the land train which travels all over the town and its 7 euros great value for money. The weather was something we couldn't control but during the week we had two lovely days around the pool just reading and relaxing. As for other reports that said this was a dirty place to stay that's rubbish we had a change of linen and towels every other day and our cleaning lady was lovely and always said hello to us. Sparkles was a great place to go to a few late drinks and a bit of a laugh (Kareoke), anyone can have a go and we really enjoyed ourselves. This is a truthful and honest report and we did have a lovely time.

On arrival we opened the door to be met by the overpowring stink of cigarettes and general dirty stench. The microwave we had to hire was caked in burnt food and grease. The floor was was filthy and when we cleaned it the cloth was covered in previous occupants' hair. The cot they provided was rusty. The apartment on the first floor had a large balcony which overlooked the bar next door and consequently suffered from loud music until the small hours. There was no view of anything but buildings. There is no lift so the buggy had to be carried up and down the stairs. However we were fortunate being on the top floor as the ground floor apartments have no privacy. Most only having an outside area that others walk through. The management's response to our complaints was limited to another cursory cleaning - after we had spent a morning cleaning it anyway, a basket of cheap fruit and a bottle of even cheaper plonk. The area is reminiscent of a run down Blackpool. The nearby beaches are filthy and consist of a mixture of sand and cigarette buts. The child's pool in the Club Martha complex which you can use has concrete blocks in it - just right for head injuries. The playground was similarly filthy to the rest of the place. The only good feature is the reception area although didn't want to spend our holiday in reception.
In summary you would have to be deperate to stay there. And what's more it wasn't particularly cheap when booked through a tour operator at around £1000 for 10 nights for two plus infant. Unsurprisingly we will not be returning. Can only suggest demolition. It has put us off Majorca completely despite the fact we found some nice restaurants, coves and mountains, not nearby.
