This is an extremely well run hotel, the bedroom was well appointed, with refrigerator, and wall mounted television. The restaurant is buffet style with a very good selection and choice of food (Breakfast and Dinner). There are two additional restaurants, providing drinks and meals throuought the day. The sun terrace and pool are superbly maintained. There is entertainment every evening.

The hotel is managed by Snr Jose Pardo Fella, who is constantly "on parade", and is very much committed to providing first class service. It is significant that every year that we visit, there appear to have been few staff changes.

This Thompson Gold 4star Hotel is in a Superb position, Great Food with moderate entertainment.
Unfortunately 4 days into our stay, 4th to 18th June, we caught the virus which apparently was making its way across this part of the Island. Although described as a 24 hour Sickness it took 4 days before you could fully begin to enjoy your holiday again. The hotel did all it could to stop the spread of the virus but over 80 people became ill.
Rumours began to spread and I think that Thompsons could have been more open and told us what was happening instead of trying to keep it quiet and hope that the problem would go away. They also could have checked up on those who were sick to see if thay were getting better.
But we did recover and enjoyed the rest of our holiday and would love to go back to this beautiful resort.

just returned on the 16th june, at first site its a lovely hotel with an impressive foyer, one problem only 2 lifts for the whole of the hotel and these lifts were a bit erratic to say the least we were on the 4th floor and spent most of the time walking up and down the stairs a bit exhausting, the restaurant was really nice and had a good array of food, the rooms could have been a bit better, the beds were a bit hard and uncomfortable but thats down to my opinion, bathrooms are lovely and have walk in showers. The thomsons reps were pretty good at what they had to do although with the average age of the residents about 75 it was a bit hard to get them involved in the activities and at times felt like they were fed up,they tried their best. As with previous reviewers the smell of sewage from the beach was unbearable and at times made us baulk with the smell, we wondered if this smell had something to do with the amount of people coming down with sickness and diahorrea my wife included 2 days before we were due to come back, she was in a really bad way and she is only in her late 40`s god knows how the other elderly people who got it coped the manager insisted it had nothing to do with his hotel and that it was a problem on the island, we did not call the doctor as we had heard from other people that you had to pay 100 euros but there was a chemist just round the corner very convenient!!!, we will not be going back to this hotel.

Room Tip: purchase a sea view

Reviewed 16 June 2011

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks from late May/early June. We had stayed there once before in July and totally loved the place. Yes it can be quiet but for us because we work it was the ideal place to wind down and relax. I have read the reports from other guests so will try and and give more information for anyone going soon. First off we travelled on a Saturday and when we arrived at Palma airport it was BUSY - there is quite alot of walking from the aircraft to the arrivals hall and quite confusingly you find yourself walking through departures - this is because, obviously, the people going home will be travelling back on the aircraft you've just arrived on and that is the one area for the inward/outbound flight . Now - whilst on the way to the baggage carousel if you do see a baggage trolley - grab it - they are like gold dust due to the high volume of planes/people that have just landed. As you make your way through the airport to find the Thomson rep - they will then send you to another rep outside the airport - then that rep may send you back to the cab office (where you've just come from) just inside the airport - this is because if there are only two or four guests going to Playa Camp de Mar you will be going there by taxi. It is alot of walking about lugging heavy cases in the heat etc. and why I have made the point of grabbing a baggage trolley.

On arrival at the hotel you will be given your key and some leaflets by the hotel staff and shown to the lifts - there will be a porter on hand to take your cases to your room. All rooms in the larger part of the hotel are quite large and spacious with a brand new walk-in shower installed for 2011. Our booking details were for a bath and we were duly given a room with a bath. This room is situated in the older looking part of the hotel and is, we were told, the only room left with a bath - all the rest have showers only. We only stayed in this room for one night as I did not like the bathroom - it was situated at the end of the room just by the balcony. We have never known this room set-up before - the door to the bathroom was glass and opened inwards - then there was a second glass door attached to the bath that opened towards you which you then guided across the toilet - this effectively gave you a glass wall of the two doors to the left of you should you want to have a bath with the bathroom door opened. To the right of you there was an oval green glass sink. Obviously if you shut the bathroom door you would only have the one glass door over the toilet - you could close that as well but I did not like it. I felt closed in and it was hot and stuffy. The balcony was tiny - it had two chairs and a table and a small pull-out washing line fixed on the wall and no room at all. If you stood on your balcony you could see into the next room - no feeling of privacy considering you are coming out of the bathroom maybe with just a towel wrapped round you. The bedroom itself was very small and one of the wardrobe doors hit the bedside table when you opened it. We went to reception who were brilliant about letting us change rooms. The next day we were in our room in the newer looking part of the hotel and although the shower room there had a glass door - do you know what? I wasn't even aware of it as the room was so large.

What's in the room so that you do not need to pack it?

There is a kettle (hurrah!) - but bring your own teabags/milk etc.
There is a hairdryer in the bathroom - not bad but not as good as my own at home.
There is a caddy of shower gel in the shower which the maid will fill up when it empties.
(it's got a lovely lemon smell and leaves the skin soft)
There is a pull-out magnifying mirror in the bathroom for gents to shave.
A few bars of soap/shoe shine pad/comb/packets of tissues/shower cap in the bathroom.
There are twenty fixed hangers in the wardrobe (19 for you and 1 for him)

What's not in the room?
A mirror over the dressing table - there is a full length one by the wardrobe plus a mirror and shaving mirror in the bathroom. The amount of times I got ready at the dressing table then looked up to 'check myself' before going out and stared at the blank wall is nobodies business!!

What would I bring? Get a non-slip mat to go into the shower tray. The walk-in shower has a fixed shower head and opposite a small hand held shower. There is nothing to grab onto whilst having a shower as the tray can get slippery underfoot. Also if you have long hair and do not want to wash it or get it wet bring your own large shower cap. The ones they provide are thin little caps and although elasticated if you have long hair it will not be big enough to contain it.

The rooms have a flat screen tv on the wall opposite the bed, two chairs, a small round table, dressing table, small luggage table, two bedside tables and two beds. Mattresses quite firm but good support. Blankets are provided in case you get cold and air conditioning if you get hot. There are two overhead lights over the bed plus two wall lights over the dressing table with a space inbetween for the much missed mirror. The wardrobe has sliding doors - one side is hanger space only with a safety deposit box at the bottom. The other side is a selection of shelves and compartments for all your cossies/underwear/shoes etc etc.
There is a fridge in the room but no mini bar inside. Also on the dressing table is a book all about the hotel and the island of Majorca. The bathroom has two oval shaped sinks and behind the door is the loo with a large shelf above it for all your toilettries.
The balcony has opaque glass either side which is non-transparent, two chairs with padded covers, a table and a slatted clothes dryer - bring some pegs. We were on the fifth floor and the view was stunning - over the pool and the bay.

The lifts I thought were ok but some people did say that they waited for them. If you want to go to reception or leave the hotel then press '0'. Everything else you need is on the lower level and you need to press '-1' this takes you to the restaurant, bar, swimming pool areas. You can walk down a flight of stairs from reception to this area too. The staff are lovely, hard working, cheerful and helpful. If you went there last year it is virtually the same staff save for one or two new barman. The restaurant serves a variety of food - you will be spoiled for choice and if you want Spanish food please be aware they have a table of it on the left as you walk in the restaurant. There is a free seating arrangement so you can sit where you want - no need to wait at the door to be shown to a table. Everytime we went in be it breakfast or evening meal we always found a laid up table ready but be aware the staff are so efficient they spot you've just arrived and will come over to take an order for drinks or if there are four or more of you they will move the tables together so you can be together. During the day there is a pool bar for food/snacks it was very busy but we did not use it so can't comment on the food. The same staff working there in the day will be found working in the evening serving drinks. On our last night (10th June) the evening entertainment had just been changed from the downstairs bar to being staged outside by the pool. They have waiter service for drinks and the atmosphere/ambiance is very nice with the swimming pool all lit up with flashing bright lights. One of the things I liked - when you go into the bar area past a few seats you will see to the right a small room with internet access (very slow) a tv plus a small library. I loved going to this every evening and finding a book or magazine someone else had left. I left my own books/mags too for someone else to read. It seemed that everyday there was a new influx of people and this little book section always had a good selection of books. If you continue walking through the bar you will find yourself into a large open aired tiled area that will take you to another bar where you can sit outside - this is beautiful as you are in the open with that beautiful seaview. You can also access the street from this area so a great cut through to get to the shops plus you can access the beach. Non residents cannot access the hotel from the beach as there is a door where only us guests can get through using our hotel room swipe card to give us access. If you use the beach you have to pay for sunbeds and a brolly. We walked along the wooden walkway by the beach and there are bars and restaurants along there. One bar in particular looked like it was just getting ready to open (always the way when you are going home) - anyway it had beautiful furnishings with lovely white soft cushions all overlooking the beach and bar. Think you could relax with a drink there no problem!

Dress code in the hotel - very informal - not the type of hotel where you can go fully dressed up for dinner - but still requiring long trousers for gents in the evening to enter the restaurant. Bear in mind it can still be very hot even late into the night so nice tops and dresses for the ladies in the evening plus the entertainment is held outside - no need for a shawl or pashmina. The indoor bar and restaurant are fully air-conditioned in the evenings.

Outside the hotel - you are in a small pedestrian looking street - this will seem traffic free but there is a cab rank opposite plus coaches etc are always about dropping people off and picking people up plus there is another hotel at the end of the street so there can be the odd coach about. There is the Camp di Mar Kiosk where you can buy all your newspapers/postcards etc run by really nice English people. A bank (Banca March with a cash machine outside), a jewellery shop plus four or five lovely clothes shops. I bought some lovely kaftans here all made in Majorca plus some dresses. The prices I thought were reasonable - 15 euros for stuff that was good quality. If you do see something you like then get it - only telling you this as I saw a few bits I liked and when I went back a few days later they'd been sold. Also have a good look in the shops too they have some lovely things - shoes are wedges and flip flops plus lovely baskets.

Sadly all good things come to an end and there is a leaving party a couple of nights a week given by the manager Jose and the Thomson rep. All your departure details will be given to you (take a pen and paper to write down your departure gate numbers etc.) - there is no rep on the coach when you depart so anything you need to know you will be told at the farewell party. Check the noticeboards for the dates of the leaving party as they are only held three nights a week and you may have to attend Friday's party although you may not be departing until the Sunday. We were being picked up at 08.50am the next morning by coach and were taken to Palma airport - we didn't stop and pick anybody else up and we there by about 09.30am. We weren't due to take off until 12.40 but had a two hour delay. Yes we had a lot of hanging about at Palma airport but as the rep explained to us the night before the airport is massively busy on Saturday and there is alot of people to process and to make sure nobody misses their flight they are taking people straight to the airport. OK yes we did have to hang around plus with a delay but when we taxied to take off we had five planes in front of us and six planes queuing behind us to take off. It's alot of people to process so I can understand the need to get people into the airport early. Once as you check in make your way to your gate - you will then be in a area whereby you can buy all your drinks/food/newspapers etc. There are plenty of toilets, baby changing facilities and seats. Also the further down you go the quieter it is.

The reps were very good - one thing when you go to the welcome meeting is to take a pen and jot down anything that appeals to you. They have a very good person that does the local interest walks etc. - all the details can be found on the rotundas and notice boards - but it's worth jotting something down at the time so that you don't forget it.

I hope anyone who is going has a fantastic time and although I've read there was a bug going round I didn't know anyone affected and it was only reading on trip advisor that I was aware of it. We hope to go back next year as we love it there - I hope you do too.

Room Tip: The higher floor you go the better the view

We have just come back from the Playa Camp de Mar and it was certainly as good as last time we went, four years ago. From the moment you enter the hotel the staff cant do enough for you. They are so friendly and helpful. How they remember everyones name is a mystery to me. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms have been redesigned and have a lovely shower. The restaurant supplies such a range of food it is very easy to gain weight. Lovely swimming pool, but as usual there are those who have to go and reserve their sunbeds at a ridiculous time of the morning. The day we left we saw some people out there at 6.15!! There is a lovely beach with plenty of sunbeds just a minute away. The entertainment team, Deano and Lottie, work hard all day and evening (as do the bar staff!) but they are never in your face to join in if you dont want to. They both have a wonderful sense of humour. There were professional shows four nights of the week and Thomson Gold shows for the other three. All very good, but Mick Dundee, the comedian, had to be the best. Will definitely go back again.

Have just returned from a one week stay at this hotel and would say it definately deserves its 4 star rating. Our bedroom and bathroom were better than we have experienced in many other hotels. The meals were well varied with plenty of choice for all tastes and all the waiting and bar staff could not have been more helpful. We did not participate in any of the daytime activities so cannot comment but found the evening entertainment a little less enjoyable than we expected for a Thomson Gold hotel.
Now the sting in the tail.In spite of various notices around the pool about reserving sunbeds we saw many people placing towels on their favourite beds as early as 6.30am.and nothing was said, clearly their is no point in displaying this notice at all.
And finally, and most disturbingly, the edge was taken off our holiday by the number of people falling sick with tummy bugs.We were lucky in keeping healthy and genuinely believe the hotel did all it could to ease the problem but it would put us off returning to this resort.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor overlooking the bay.

The hotel was lovely and our room which was sea facing and on the 5th floor was excellent. The food was really good with enough variety to accommodate anyone's taste. It was my birthday whilst we were away and the hotel helped my husband to arranged for a beautiful bouquet to be delivered and a really nice touch was when a waiter arrived at our door with a complimentary bottle of champagne. We saw a couple of the shows and they were quite good but the highlight of the night was the actions of 95% of the guests who immediately after the shows finished at 11pm got up in unison and were like a line of ants vacating the premises and scurrying back to their bedrooms. By 5 past 11 the premises were virtually empty. The biggest laugh was the night a comedien was on and he came back onto the stage from behind the curtains because he had been waiting for his encore but by the time he came back there were only about half a dozen of us left. We are in our 60s but when we are on holiday we still like to have some fun but there were only a few of us left to have a dance to the resident group who were really very good but didn't stand a chance with all the hotels early to bed guests. So lovely as it was, we won't be returning - this hotel is far to quiet for us 2 ageing rockers.
