“Lovely Hotel for the over 60s!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

We stayed in this hotel in July 11. It was a lovely hotel, clean, organised, good food and friendly staff. The professional entertainment they got in on 3 nights was great. The beach and pool was clean. Location was very quiet with few shops or places to walk. However, there was a local bus that enabled you to travel to livelier resorts and to the capital of Palma. We also went on 2 thomson excursions (orange blossom and East Coast Trio).
On the down side the hotel guests when we arrived were mostly over 65 and the resident entertainment only really catered for their age group. Even on the Saturday when more couples our age (40s and 50s) arrived the entertainment was still geared at the old people. The hotel and resort it great for anyone elderly who does not want to walk much, shop or have any noise or for someone who wants quiet all week by the pool. We actually got asked to be quiet when we were chatting to another couple by the pool, by a stuck up guest who wanteed to read. I suggested she read on her balacony if she wanted silence, stoped in a villa rather than on a thomson package holiday or read in the monastry at Valdimosso. Many guests were a little 'above themselves thinking they were on a retreat rather than at a 250 bed hotel'. We loved the hotel and place but If you are a lively young couple wanting an adult only holiday then this hotel and resort might not be a good choice.

Room Tip: We had a twin room with sea view and balcony and it was lovely. Many double rooms do not have this a...

If you like to be stuck in one place all day and night this hotel's for you. The food is average, the rooms are clean and adequate, the pool is OK but not cleaned very often. The entertainment was nothing spectacular except perhaps for the Rod Stewart entertainer. The thompson team were down to three so they only performed songs and the two shows they were supposed to perform were none existant.

The hotel has spectacular views but the surrounding area has no promenade, only 7 or 8 shops, two of which were overpriced supermarkets. If you wanted to go shopping a bus or a taxi were the order of the day, otherwise its a thirty to fifty minute walk mostly up hill....easy enough to get a taxi at the hotel or a bus at the roundabout, getting a taxi back from Peguera was a nightmare, you have to practically throw yourself under the wheels to get them to stop and the bus only seems to run every hour or so. The shops are much of a muchness and if like us, you can't walk far, are on an incline.

All in all I would not return to this hotel and don't feel as though I had value for money.

For the last two years, my wife and I went to Rhodes, but this year we decided to return to Majorca for the 4th time. Camp De Mar was a new place for us, so we were not quite sure what to expect.
What we found was a lovely hotel with friendly staff, good food and excellent entertainment - just what you'd expect to get at Thomson Gold. The resort itself was also lovely, although we were a bit concerned about the smell that hung in the air that came from the seaweed which was washed up on the rocks. Someone should clear that from time to time!

The only complaint we had was that there was the usual rush to get sunbeds. We've seen it before at other hotels, so it didn't come as a surprise. Why do people feel that they have to get up early and reserve beds, and why don't hotel staff do something about it? A sign at the door just isn't enough to deter people. At another hotel we stayed in, towels were actually removed, and although it caused a bit of an uproar, it did make a difference. Its a myth that its only Germans who do this!
On the same subject, its worth pointing out that this hotel has a policy of stacking up most of the sunbeds and covers at the end of each day, and pushing the brollies into corners, which means that not only do you have to get up early, you also have to find the beds, put them where you want them, get the covers for them, and then drag/roll a brolly across to your chosen spot. Someone will get hurt one of these days!

Overall, it was a great holiday though, and as ever Majorca didn't disappoint.

Stayed for 11 nights early July. Hotel was very clean and all the staff seemed happy to help and very cheerful. Rooms and towels were cleaned daily. Food was of a very good standard and varied choice although a bit repetitive during the second week.

During the first few days there was a very much older cliental there but from the 8th July a much wider range from 20 somethings to 80 somethings!!

The hotel is in a superb location and although it was very hot during our stay, there is a lovely breeze from the sea making the days and in particular the evenings very much more bearable. Only a very small resort with 3 hotels several villas and apartments and only a handful of bars outside of the hotels a small supermarket a bank and 3 or 4 boutiques. Ideal for us as we prefer to be outside larger resorts.

A visit into Port Andratx or Peguera is only €5- €6 both busier with Port Andratx being a little more upmarket. You can also get from outside the hotel.
Also a visit onto the Island Beach Bar is a must.

Thomson Team, Deano and Lottie were very hard working and good fun. The evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss, some good and some bad. We have stayed in Gold hotels before with much better professional shows. The best two for us was Fogwell Flax and Una Acora. The shows however where the Thomson Gold Team visited were not great in fact very amateurish. The resident duo did a good job and again worked hard.

The biggest disappointment of the stay was the ridiculous rush for pool sun beds. People were queuing to be let out of the hotel into the pool area when the hotel unlocked the doors at 07.00am. If you did not get out early then getting an umbrella for the hot mid day sun was impossible as the early birds also liked to take one umbrella per bed!! We ended up paying €10.5 per day for about 5 days of our stay for sun beds on the beach but at least that way you could get up at a reasonable hour have breakfast and make your way to the beach and always get a bed. Both the hotel management and Thomson recognise this is a problem and have tried several things to combat it but to no avail.

I really liked the quiet area and would go back.

Oh - and proper sausages at breakfast - Lush !!
