“Worst hotel we have ever stayed in and not a 4 star”
Reviewed 24 May 2008

We have just returned from this hotel on the 22nd May 2008.
This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and it is certainly not a 4 star and should be only be a 2 star at best.
Apart from the terrible food, dirty blankets, hard beds, cold whirl pool, crowded pool, ill fitting windows, noisy rooms, tread bare sheets its fine.
How Thomson could rate this as a Gold hotel is beyond belief.
I know of at least three other couples who intend to complain about this place.
We will never go back or use Thomson again.
Apart from this Camp De Mar is a loverly bay and very quite.
To those who are booked already good luck you will need it.

we booked our holiday online though the official thomson website and we were so disappointed with this so called thomson gold hotel.
the thomson transfer mini buses to hotel were very quick and we didnt have to wait for the bus to fill up, they took straight away to our hotel which was pretty impressive.
but not until we got to the hotel that we realized that we were stuck in a holiday geared for the mature adults , over 60's to be precise. i being 27, and my husband being 35 , were quite appalled to find ourselves in a resort where are the entertainment , food, atmosphere were all exclusively geared for over 60's, unlike what the description of the hotel said : "catering individual need" and "live music to dance bands, they certainly know how to put on a show here" maybe the fastest song they played was the BJ's .
food was good but there was not much variety in the food. only once i had chicken curry ( that has become british food anyway ) and paela.
i cant stress enough to mention that the entertainment was so boring , included stuff like skittles, quizes (designed for older ppl) throw the bean bag, aqua aerobics was fun though (that was pretty entertaining to watch) .
the biggest problem with the entertainment was that the thomson team got it all wrong , the games were designed in 2 teams the vistors( the brits ) againsr the thomson team, and ofcourse thomson always won, so there's no real competition . they won every single game. it was like we wasted our time watching them play . they dont get the idea that it is our holiday not theirs.
the evening entertainment was full 100% of oldies , goldies song etc. the resident duo "reaction " was booooring. oldies songs again.
we didnt expect this from a thomson gold hotel. we felt left out and out of tune with the whole holiday resort.
if the description of this hotel was more transparent we wouldn't have booked this hotel in the first place . we feel like we have been miss sold this expensive package when it catered a different and an much older generation . it is not fair at all. we wanted a reasonably calm place in spain as we are not party freaks which was the reason why we booked in the first place but we found ourselves in a care home for brits in spain . not shuffed at all!!!

  • Liked — the amazing beach nearby, the nice deserts they make
  • Disliked — the pretty BORING entertainment ,our bathroom window that overlooked that neighbors balcony!

We went on a stay and cruise [Portland] staying at this hotel. On arrival we were shown to room 101, a smelly 'broom cupboard' of a room adjacent to the hotel main entrance overlooking the back of a hotel, shops and a taxi-rank. It had no air-conditioning no privacy and no sleep after 5am when lorries began deliveries to the hotel. We eventually got a room move on day 3, to room 444 which was another room at the back of the hotel but better than that disgraceful room 101 [double bedded room]. Returning home we read the cruise brochure and it said that room facilities
at this hotel included a balcony, 2 to 3 beds and sea view, that was the type of room that went with the cruise. Before travelling to this hotel make absolutely sure to take proof of a sea view booking, we didnt and it cost us. I would also avoid the side sea view rooms which also have a view of the street and hotel opposite.

Just returned from camp de mar if you want relaxing holiday this is the place to go. We stayed only a week which was plenty .The staff were very friendly and the thompson team available 24/7. Food was plentiful and varied , rooms comfortable we were at fronf of hotel not facing sea but we had the best of both worlds sun all day by pool then back to room late afternoon we still had sun, seaview rooms in shade. Maid service very good .Taxi service very good and inexpensive lots of places to visit .Few bars and shops around if you want to eat out but we didnt need to as food in hotel very good. All in all a very quiet and relaxing holiday which is what we wanted but if you want night life this is not the place .The only negative is the scramble for sunbeds in the morning doors to pool dont open till 830 some queuing at 730 for the best positioned sunbed .We didnt bother til after breakfast and still got a sunbed albeit not in prime position like some but we are not fussy.

This is a perfect place if you want a relaxing holiday. However, if you are looking for any sort of lively night life in the resort - forget it! Saying that there is plenty going on a short taxi ride away. For us it was great we had a few days of 'chilling' by the pool and then hired a car for 5 days to see some of the island. The Thomson trips were expensive although we did do the 1/2 day sailing and would recommend that. The hotel was great, very clean and the food was excellent - so much choice I can't understand the reviewers that criticised it. There was a rush for sun beds at 8.30 but we went to the pool after breakfast and never failed to get a bed. Entertainment was varied but the reps worked very hard to provide daytime and evening entertainment. The hotel manager and staff were very friendly and made an effort to chat to the guests. This was the third Thomson Gold holiday we've been on and once again we were not disappointed.

My wife and I have just returned from a two week holiday at Playa Camp de Mar and will definately not be going again. I have stayed in nearly all Thomson's Gold hotels but this one must be the most boring place I have ever stayed. I agree with one of the reviewers that the food is a choice of stewed turkey, strewed beef, stewed pork nearly every night with chips and the puddings are jellies, custards etc.
The resident duo "Reaction" who came on every evening seemed to have converstions with each other instead of entertaining the guests.
The star comedian told a few very old jokes then proceeded to asked the guests which parts of the country they came from then ended his show with several ballads.
The best part of the holiday was going to Snack Bar Pepes about 100 metres from the hotel.

We have just returned from our first Thomson Gold holiday at the Playa Camp de Mar Hotel. The hotel is in a stunning location right on the beautiful beach.
The food at the hotel is superb and is by far the best we have ever had abroad - much better than in some 5 star hotels we have stayed at. The gala evening follows the hotel managers champagne reception - both definitely not to be missed. The general manager is so interesting and amusing to listen to. He clearly adores the hotel and it is so important to him that all guests have a wonderful holiday.
Last but not least, the highlight of the holiday has to be the entertainment. Kirsten and Claire, the entertainment reps, work so hard to entertain the guests both during the day with the various activities and in the evening. Reaction, the resident duo, sing most evenings and are excellent.
I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fantastic holiday in a superb location.
We met some lovely people on holiday here and cant wait to go back again.
