If you like a top quality hotel that is right 'on the beach', then consider this hotel. The location is wonderful, overlooking Camp de Mar beach. All bedrooms have a sea view although some have a superior 'full' view. We stayed for four nights half-board in a 'superior' twin room (416) which had amazing views - 'wow factor' when you enter the room and look out over the modern plate glass balcony. The bedrooms and public rooms of the hotel are immaculately clean and well decorated in a modern style. We did not use the spa facilities and so cannot comment other than we used the changing rooms when we first arrived (at 10.30) as our room wasn't ready and the facilities appeared to be as advertised by the hotel and once again everything was spotlessly clean. The staff throughout the hotel are very pleasant, very courteous and totally professional.
There is always an attendant on duty at the pool and courtesy towels are placed on the sunbeds for guests use either at the pool or to take onto the beach. There are plenty of sunbeds and there is never a battle to get one as they cannot be simply reserved for the day by placing your own towel on a bed early in the morning and then strolling down to a 'reserved' bed later on! This is a far more civilised system and works very well.
In our opinion, the only thing that brings the hotel score down is the food. Breakfast is fine, with the usual spread of 'European' choice - from meats and cheese through to eggs an bacon. However, the al la carte evening meal was a disappointment. The menu is presented as a 7-day menu, so you know what you will be getting each evening of the week. There is a choice of two meat and two fish dishes; a 'wok' dish; and a pasta dish. The meat and fish dishes are cooked fresh on the grill and then plated with accompanying vegetables. On our first two nights, we had the meat - entrecote steak and then pork - and the meat was fine and hot, but everything else on the plate appeared and tasted as though it had been cooked well before and had been sat on the plate a long time. The meal was very dry and with no sauce. The vegetables appeared to be either frozen or tinned.
Because of this, for the final two nights of our stay we switched to the pasta and 'wok' meals; and these were tasty and pleasant. However, for a longer stay, this would have been extremely limiting. On a positive note, these observations were passed on to the reception when we were asked if we had enjoyed our time at the hotel, and they were very keen to listen to our views and appreciated the points that were made as genuine feedback.
The hotel offers some very nice 'extra touches'. Like a glass of champagne upon arrival, a water cooler by the pool, free pastries by the pool and a complementary iced drink when sat by the pool.
Overall an excellent hotel, let down slightly by the a la carte evening meal. We would definitely stay at this hotel again but on a bed and breakfast basis unless we were aware of changes made to the way in which the evening meal was presented.
