“Wonderful grilled sea bass, and a great view over the bay”

At the recommendation of our holiday resort in Camp de Mar, we wandered down to La Siesta for dinner. We didn't have starters or desserts – just mains. I ordered the “freshly caught” grilled sea bass, my wife had a mixed meat kebab, and our 9-year-old daughter chose steak and chips. It's a lovely spot, with great views across the bay – the kind of place where you don't mind waiting a while for your food to arrive. When it did, the quality was a bit variable. The steak , which we'd ordered cooked medium, was very well done and a bit chewy – so not too great. The meat kebab was very tasty, and the sea bass was superb. I think it'll be fish all round if we go again...

We were attracted by the wonderful location (on the beach) and seemingly reasonable prices. However, my spaghetti with seafood was revolting. The tomato based sauce (wrong in my book) was gloopy and sweet while the seafood was mostly overcooked mussels and chunks of crabsticks, with a few unpleasantly bony nameless fishy parts. My husbands pizza was very cardboardish and avoided tasting of anything despite being decorated with flakes of ham. All of this would have been ok if our bill had been as cheap as we hoped, but the very poor sangria (seemingly straight from a carton) at five euros a glass made our dinner fairly costly. Go here for the view but don't expect good food.

We ate here two or three times and always delicious. We ate fresh fish every day. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Dishes were mostly typical Majorcan style but their hake Basque style was also wonderful. Several starters I had never tried before and a pretty extensive menu including duck with fresh orange sauce & t-bones. If you were early (or late) enough to get on the balcony side the view is stunning, but if not you can still watch the sun go down and the stars appear in a clear sky. Maybe by English standards the service was a bit slow but we were on holiday so what's the rush and the freshly cooked food was worth it and while we waited we sample the local wines. Highly recommend this family run restaurant who have been in that corner for about 17 years.
