“Not what it used to be.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2013

I have stayed at the Leo since 2004 and have always been satisfied. In November i stayed there with my wife for 10 days.

In recent times the Hotel has changed hands from th Hotetor chain to the Leo. Things are not now what they used to be.

I agree with the comments of other reviewers but the standard of food and service in the restaurant has really diminished.

There are not enough staff in the restaurant and are run ragged and can not cope with the amount of work they have to do. The food as well as of a very poor quality compared to previous time ran out with the reult that we often had to wait for the buffet to be replenished.

This will be our last visit and we will be looking for some where else on our next visit to Mallorca.

Room Tip: Having stayed in a variety of rooms there is not much to choose from.

For someone traveling on a budget, this hotel is a very good option. Although the facilities are outdated, I believe the most important factor in a hotel is cleanliness, and this one had it. There is a bus stop just steps away and you're in Palma within 10 minutes. The Airport is just minutes away on bus #21. Easy access to the beach and a short walk to Can Pastilla where you'll find a variety of restaurants. I was there during the low season, therefore many shops, restaurants and hotels were closed down for the season, and although there wasn't a lot of people, we always felt secure walking late at night. Our reservation included breakfast, which was a pretty good variety of hot and cold options.. The room was basic, two twins beds pushed together. Like in many European budget hotels, when winter season comes along, they shut down A/C and crank up the heater, therefore, if you like to sleep in a chilly room, as I do, you'll need to leave the balcony door cracked open. If you intend to do so, I recommend you take a room in the higher floors to avoid mosquitoes. They have two 'seasoned' elevators that accommodate only 4 people at a time, and it's a tight fit. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a clean, economical hotel, as long as you don't expect the Ritz, you should be alright.

This is a nice hotel situated only 5 mins from the airport in Palma de Mallorca. Just a short walk from the beach as well as ap. 10 mins with taxi from downtown Palma. the most important thing about the location is that it is off the German Partycity further 2 km along the beach.

Ok rooms that could be a bit cleaner. Looks quite old and could need a fresh-up, but it's ok. You mainly stay by the nice pool or go elsewhere when you go to mallorca anyway. Nice breakfast at the hotel and there is some kind of evening entertainment in the bar area.

The visit was for a week long holiday in November. The location of the hotel is great only 400 metres from the beach and right next to the main bus route from Palma to Arenal. You can reach the hotel direct from the Airport on the route 21 service which only costs €2.
The hotel facilities were fine with the rooms very clean. The room have 2 single beds a TV which had Spanish, French, German and Italian channels. The bathroom was fine and had a lovely power shower. There was a safe in the room which you could use for €2.50 a night to keep your valuables in. Also you could hire a small fridge/minibar for €15 a week. The staff were very friendly and there was nice touch when my partner didn't arrive at the hotel till 2 days later due to air delays from Africa. When they let her have a lunchtime meal even though I had only paid for B+B.
There was a good variety of food at breakfast time. Something for everyone even pasta and chips. The food was nice enough but the hot food sometimes could have been a bit warmer.
With it being off season a lot of places were closed but with a very good bus service that Palma provides you could go into the City of Palma where more places were open.
The places I recommend to visit is a very challenging crazy golf course situated about 2km along the beach at Hotel Playa Golf. There is a English bar called the Sportsman which is in Arenal where beer prices are reasonable though it only open on Saturday and Wednesday night due it being off season. I also recommend a visit to the Iberostar Stadium where Real Mallorca play. I visited there when they played Barcelona and it was a great atmosphere. The ground is easy to get to due to very good public transport links.
Overall I enjoyed my visit to this hotel. It was very good value for money at about £26 a night. I would like to stay in this hotel again on next visit to Palma.

Great hotel if you're on a budget, are not too bothered about the fancy bits (forget flat screen tvs, free wifi and fluffy towels) but care about location. Food options are not bad either: for a reasonable price you have plenty of choice and evening meals selection changes daily. True, it might not be hot enough (especially in the morning) and veg and meat gets recycled but everything is still good to eat. Plus, recycled food is easy to spot and avoid - and there's still plenty left to choose from. Some people complaining about food quality seem to be forgetting how much they've paid for their meals and expect Michelin star restaurant where there simply isn't one. So, if you're after local food or are adventurous eater don't pay for the hotel food. If you don't want to go out of you comfort zone or for you food is there to keep you alive and doesn't have to be fancy, just tasty and nutritious - go for the hotel food. You will get more than you've paid for.

Now to hotel amenities, Wifi is a bit pricey but you're on holiday to forget about it all, right? Rooms are clean but remember to take your own toiletries (you only get cheap soap and shower gel/shampoo). Nice touch: we stayed on a half board basis but checked-in after 10 pm so thought we're not going to get anything that evening (evening meal slot closes down at 9 pm) - yet there was a small cold dinner waiting for us. Not so nice touch: tea, coffee, juice-coloured drinks (forget real juices unless you want to pay for them - apart from tomato juice, it's there for free) and water are free in the morning but you have to pay for them in the evening. They can't be put on your tab - so remember to bring some money with you if you're eating in.

Nice stay overall - just remember to manage your expectations, You always get what you pay for.

This visit was purely for a long weekend and having read previous reviews I can say that most are bang on with this hotel with regard to its facilities and functionality. Not all rooms have a balcony as stated by TOM O as single rooms have a tendancy to just have a window which opens up without any safety device and can be a bit off-putting if you are 4 or 5 floors up.

Rooms are funtional and clean although the furniture was painted in my room so can look scruffy once it gets a few scratches on it. TIP ROC LEO: Strip back and varnish...much nicer! The shower worked well and never failed to have hot water.

Food was varied but nothing special. As previously stated it could have been a bit warmer at times. Bar prices are much the same as the local bars away from the hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful and as i have stated before in other reviews, if people are rude or unhelpful towards you it is normally because of your attitude in the first place towards them.

The hotel was predominently filled with German guests who didn't bother me at all. There were however also Swiss, Austrian, French, Spanish, Russian as well as a few other "Brit" couples/families which made for interesting entertainment when the staff tried to deceifer what language to speak. Entertainment was mainly for the Germans and quite frankly you could pretend you were on holiday in Germany most of the time.

Sunbeds were plentiful but only because of the time of year. Yes people were using them (and the pool) even at the end of October. Location is very good. A short walk to the seafront and beach, bars, restaurants etc and easy to get to from the airport by car, taxi or number 21 bus....about 5 minutes. Aircraft noise is not really a problem but if you think it will be for you, get a pool facing room but even here you will get some noise if aircraft are taking off in a Southbound direction.

In all this is a mid range hotel supplying facilities which are mid range but with the standards you would expect, at a cost you would expect, for such a Hotel. If you expect higher you will be disappointed so go and enjoy what there is for a very reasonable price.

Stayed for a week middle of October 2012. Used as a base for touring the Island the hotel was comfortable and clean with a spacious twin room and bathroom which were cleaned daily, towels and bedding changed on request (just leave in bath if you wanted them changed). there was aircon (both cold and hot).
The hotel is very close to the airport which means transfer times are very quick, however that also means there are low aircraft overhead, but to be honest these did not bother us at all.
Hotel staff, front desk and restaurant were friendly and helpful. Many different nationalities, maily Spanish at the start of the week and German at the end. Notice some comments about "rude Germans", think perhaps you need to remember what is considered rude in one country doesn't in another so just relax and don't let these things bother you. For one thing the food is not going to run out! it was very plentiful and varied, we were on half board and didn't feel the need to have more than a small snack in the middle of the day!
Hotel is a couple of minutes from a long sandy beach, we had a car (secure parking next to hotel for 3euro a day) so could explore easily but if you didn't it would be very easy to get around, especially into Palma (so lovely!) using public transport.
Mallorca is a fantastic Island so much to see and do even though it is not very large, scenery is spectacular in places. Make sure you visit Palma, Soller and Port de Soller especially and have fun!
