This may sound weird but I love this hotel because of the lack of facilities. It was my second stay there in two years. Last year for one week, this year for 11 nights. It's near the airport so you can get a public bus (no 21) 2.5 euros every half hour from the stop near the taxi rank. The name of the stop you want is Hotel Linda - takes about 5 minutes - easy. The bus stop is opposite the hotel. Check in is quick. Safe deposit was expensive (30 euros with 5 deposit for 11 nights) but important I think. Don't worry when you get into your room if the air con seems not to work, wack it up to high and it will be fine. If you want to keep in touch with the UK, there's BBC 1, 2, ITV and Channel 4 on the TV. The rooms are functional, clean and safe. My only small caviat is that the balcony (room 502) on one side of the hotel isn't very private and someone could hope over from next door. I kept the patio doors locked.
I love the fact that there's no entertainment. There's a perfectly good bar and cabaret room with perfectly neat seating, a stage with lights, but nothing ever happens. Fabulous. There are not kids' entertainers and the kids pool is mainly used by adults to sit on the side of reading their books. There's no thumpy music from the pool bar - brilliant. Can there be a directory of hotels with no thumpy pool music set up?
The restaurant is perfectly adequate. Yes there are chips every night, yes it gets a bit samey but there was always a great salad selection, plenty of cheese, meats, breads, fruit and icecream. Put it this way, I put on 3.5 lbs in 11 nights. Breakfast is ok too. Bit greasy but you could (as I saw one chap do), drain it off the bacon using a serviette. Good coffee and all unlimited. Great addition of the pancake station each morning. They serve wine and beer but you can buy it at the bar and take it in to the restaurant.
The reception staff could do a bit of work on their hospitality skills. I tried to be as friendly as possible but maybe it's the language barrier but I found them a little frosty, though it was gratifying to see some familiar faces from last year.
The beach is about 200 metres away but I stayed by the pool. The upper terrace gets the sun all day.
Got the bus (no 15) to Palma (1.5 euros each way) for a day out - loved it. So easy. And hired a bycicle from the shop across the road (2 euros for one hour/5 euros for the day). You get a lock and the cycle path to Palma makes you glad to be alive.
All in all, thoroughly recommended.
