Blau Colonia Sant Jordi Resort & Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 31 July 2012

This is my first time here in this resort. I stayed in this lovely resort with my wife and 6 years old daughter. I booked it via the hotel website and it was quite comfortable. We stayed there 11 days in second half of July 2012 The main reason to choose area of Colonia Sant Jordi was Es Trenc beach and based on the reviews Blau Colonia Sant Jordi resort (hotel) seemed to be right option. Anyway, I was not sure what to expect from the hotel.

Generally, the layout of the hotel is great. Gardens with small ponds were really nice. We stayed in the block 4 on the first floor, it was quite place and were not disturbed by potential noise. We had a suite (family room). The room was spacious with nice decor. Terrace was excellent. During our stay I found out some minor drawbacks in our room (4116):
- sofa bed - was not functional if you wanted to convert to bed ( make it wider) - I did not complain because I utilised it in narrower version, it was still comfortable for me
- we discovered some very small ants (red ones) in room
- when you wanted to take shower morning or just wash hands ( 7 a.m) - it took from 5 minutes to 15minutes to leave water running to get normal water temperature. The water was too hot, unusable for normal hygienic needs.
- the TV set is outdated, there should be some improvement. The majority of TV programmes were for German speaking people and rest were Spanish ones. There is really lack of English speaking programmes (just one, I think CNBC Europe)
- Air conditioning in suite room consisted of two units, unfortunatelly without remote controls, it was anoying to turn it off geting up from the bed late evening.

I would like to comment also "cofee issue" in pool area and in the hotel. It is realy true that cofee is tastless, my wife was dissapointed. There must be improvement. We went for cofee to the port side of Colonia Sant Jordi and it was perfect with high quality.

Breakfest and dinner was very good quality even if it was buffet style. Selection of fruits and salads was excellent. The staff serving in the hotel restaurants was helpfull and friendly. They were speaking predominantly German, of course Spanish as well. Rest od staff was extremelly polite and friendly.

Despite the fact that almost each occupant was from German speaking countries and I felt like I was in Germany or Austria, they deserve respect. There were so many families with children, very polite and friendly.

Animation team worked really hard and I have to appreciate their effort even if I am not fan of this kind of entertainment. The hotel provides shuttle bus to beach Es Marques that is adjacent to Es Trenc. It takes about 20 minutes to get there by walking. We combined hotel shutlle bus or we used rental car to get to Es Trenc. All of the children liked cats close to entrance to the restaurants (loby bar).

I liked the hotel, I would definitelly go back.

This is my second time here, both for work and both stays have been very pleasant.

Located about 15 minute walk from the beach and 25 minutes to the harbour the resort is rather huge offering lots of activities. When we were there last week it was heaving and it's not even school holidays. Very little space space by the pool, not that I had a chance to use it!

The rooms are OK...basic and functional. We had a suite and oddly the normal bedrooms had a free nicer features like a modern TV.

Food at the hotel is just OK. Pool bar food is rather average. The coffee there is ATROCIOUS!! Seriously this hotel needs to provide decent coffee. They offer Nespresso at the lobby bar which is nice but that's the only place to get your fix. Ask them to make a cappuccino and it's a disaster, every time. The pool bar needs a kick up the backside and offer something so basic that is available at all the restaurants in the town.

Buffet food is quite nice but you tire of it very quickly. Very similar stuff every day. I got sick of it after the second day. Good value but I am not a buffet fan, it's refuelling rather than having dinner! Also you couldn't get spirits in the restaurant, you have to go to the bar and bring them in with you. Odd.

It's a German owned resort so expect lots of Germans which is fine by me it's just the English of the some of the staff was very poor or zero and they always assume you are German. I would rather be spoken to in Spanish first, after all, I am in Spain...right? :)

A good place for a family holiday if you want to just stay there. Just be prepared for lack of decent food and decent coffee!

Room Tip: Avoid the blocks near the pool bar if you want to sleep. It's loud and open till 3am.

e are retired couple, had some doubts about the location and that it was a resort geared to younger sporty types, but it worked out well for us. We were in Block 5, third floor, quiet with nice views over the gardens. The room with balcony was comfortable and clean. We made good use of the pool and excellent new spa, tho' the other sporting options passed us by. Seemed a great place for families. The buffet restaurant was well run and the food was good. The pool restaurant menu needed a few more options, of smaller portions. The staff were really friendly and helpful. For days out, the Majorca roads are good and quiet and the apparent isolation in the south east corner of the island was a benefit not a problem. There's a hotel shuttle to the beach, but it's only ten minutes walk anyway, as is the nice little harbour, where there nis the option to go out to Cabrera. Altogether a good spot.

Room Tip: Families would enjoy ground floor rooms opening straight out onto the gardens, for us the quieter to...

The hotel / resort was very clean and tidy, a nice bar, good swimming pools and spa. There are also entertainment activities available to take part in like archery or shooting. The restaurants at the hotel was ok, a little hit and miss and the door staff can be very abrupt and almost rude.

The cleaning staff were very good, our room was serviced daily and without having to ask, they even gave an extra pillow for us as I was using a folded blanket the first night. (at-tentative) The beds are singles pushed together (cheap effort really) and quite hard to sleep on.

English people beware.... The name gives it away really: The place is filled with German's. Not that that is a problem, they are quiet and respectful, but do tend to get naked when possible in the spa room. (Didn't know where to look at times) made us feel a little uncomfortable. We were 4 English people among maybe 800 German people. And the Euro football games didn't help.!

In general, a good place to stay. Saint Jordi doesn't have much going for it compared to other towns on the Island like Calador or Palma for example. Although it is fairly close to Es Trenc which is a great beach. Make use of a hire car and travel up through the mountain range.! There are some truly stunning places to visit and explore and your almost guaranteed good weather.

Room Tip: We didn't pay for a suite, but on arrival were given one anyway. Looking at the other rooms. the...

This resort hotel is like a sports center! Tennis tournaments, golf courses and very nice beaches nearby! The hotel has several blocks of rooms and apartments. I stayed on a suite apartment on ground floor in one of the blocks. The room is quiet and comfortable enough and the toilet were functional. Amenities standard and nothing to highlight. It fulfills what you can expect from a four star hotel managed by german people. Well maintained. Gardens, swimming pool indooor and outdoor, spa and tennis corts. As we were in an half-board basis, the buffet is what you can expect, but with no luxuries...

Room Tip: Ask for a more modern and quiet room!

We stayed in this hotel (block 3, 1st floor) for a long weekend at the beginning of May.

Check-in went very smoothly, staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Room – spacious with enough storage. Curtain which would block out more light would be nice.
Definitely asked for an extra pillow when checks in as the ones in the room are rather small and thin.

Bathroom – clean and spacious but toilet flush works only on 1st flush, after that it just doesn’t have any power.

Food – good quality and choice. Buffet theme changed every day but freshly prepared meat and fish steaks were always available in the evening.

The only downside of restaurant section – seating plan in the evening – feels like you are eating in the canteen with table cramped next to each other in rows. There is no outdoor seating in the evening. If you lucky, actually if you get up early enough you may enjoy breakfast on the terrace.

We didn’t use spa, pool or sport facilities so can’t comment on those.

You need to pay deposit (think its 8e/day) +some flat fee for using safe.

Overall a nice hotel with predominantly German clientele, very close to the beach, town centre & port.

Room Tip: Top floor in the block away from pools and night entertaiment sections. We had a room on 1st floor...

The hotel is nice and the gardens are very well maintained. There is a brand new spa and wellness area. The indoor swimming pool is very cold and not very accessible for young children. The rooms are nice without luxury, the TV is very bad (no Children channels in Spanish). The restaurant is located at the very entrance but one has to walk quite a distance to reach it. The food is not worth a four-star-hotel and is not good (except fruits and cheese). The coffee is absolutely undrinkable and is a shame for such an hotel, no one would have to pay for such a watery fair beige coffee. The restaurant, with charming staff members and opened at lunch time, has a similar offer of uninviting food. The animation is good, the mini/maxi clubs very well kept and with very friendly and professional staff. The surroundings, except the beaches, are very deceiving - and also very expensive offers (trip to Cabrera costs 38€/adult and 20€ for kids) and the small town has little to offer. It is sad that a nice hotel, well kept and with competent staff and maintenance, offers such bad food and coffee. Another thing that is quite irritating is the obsession with recycling and saving (water, light, etc) and does not really fit with the idea of an expensive and quite holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the salt lake (mosquitoes) and near the main restaurant if you do not wish...
