Had lovely meal on our last visit in June. The staff are wonderful and friendly and it is a great restaurant with a relaxed informal atmosphere. Would highly recommend the dates with bacon everyone in our family can't get enough of those! Also the calamari is very good as is the stuffed lamb and the sizzling sirloin steak is great to share after a selection of tapas if you're feeling hungry!

“Tapas on a pretty terrace”

We sat on their very nice terrace adjacent to the restaurant. Good selection of tapas, priced towards the top end of our experiences in Deia. Overall they were tasty, although not the best we've had. If we went again we would order in stages as they brought everything out together, rather than staggered as is the traditional and more preferred way. Service was friendly and efficient. Sangria was on a tap/pump rather than freshly made so not great.

“Superb Tapas”

We just wanted a light lunch - we ended up spending some considerable time and working our way through many wonderful tapas dishes - they were all wonderful

“Terrifically tasty tapas”

The Spanish eat late, really late. Typically, an evening meal eaten much before 10.00 pm is for wimps and Anglo Saxons which is why my wife and I, whilst enjoying a delightful break in a friend's apartment in Deia for a week, thought that having our main meal at lunchtime was the way forward.

We both arrived in Deia weary from work and just wanted to unwind and take the occasional stroll or a bus journey into Palma or nearby Soller. The day we went to El Barrigon, Spanish for the big bellied one by the way, we had been enjoying a gentle wander up to the Church of St John the baptist to see the poet and author Robert Graves's tomb.

We wanted a good lunch but not a three course lunch so we popped into El Barrigon. Normally we look for places that are busy but we were early, arriving around 1.20. Mallorquins take lunch late too. We were the only people in the place, but to hell with it, the menu looked great.

Antonia, our waitress, was friendly and welcoming; the tapas menu rich with tasty looking dishes so we went for it: fried squid, meatballs, ham croquettes, dates wrapped with bacon, potatoes and pimentos. 'Stop!' cried Antonia, laughing thinking that we were both aiming to become big bellied ones, although I am already there!

The food came quickly, all piping hot and every plate equally tasty. Washed down with a local white Viogner wine whilst sitting out on the terrace watching the coaches of day visitors pour in and lean, lycra clad cyclists peddling precariously amidst the traffic we rejoiced in our vantage point whilst enjoying such a quintessentially Spanish meal at a time that suited us.

By the time we left the terrace was almost full, and rightly so. This is an excellent place to dine and our lunchtime tapas could not be improved upon.

“Good all round”

Lovely terrace shaded by the vines and has inside restaurant. Tapas were reasonably priced and good flavours. The prawns al ajillo were served in a cazuela and were succulent and flavoured with dry chilli garlic and bay leaf all for 13 euros. Great spot to stop off and wait for the bus back to Port de Soller after a great hike down to Deia.
