“Mallorcan treat”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

This is a truely delightful hotel in a magnificent setting. Service and accomodation are of a very high standard with out being chi-chi. Food, both at breakfast and in the evening is a treat. Previous reviewers have stressed the need for a car however, we hired road bikes and would recommend these as the perfect way to explore. Mallorca has been likened to a Scalextric set for cyclists, why not stay here and enjoy it at its best!

Is luxurious, in the middle of Mallorca, good for just doing nothing, breakfast are excellent, restaurant too expensive from my view, Bir rooms with good views, have to go with car, good for scaping from the mass. If you like to do nothing, or stay in the midle of nowhere is an excellent choice.

Room Tip: Try to get good views

Orient, a tiny village nestling in the hillside deep in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains. Surrounded by ancient olive groves and beautiful shady oak trees. Rocky crags rise up from the valley floor which is dotted with herds of sheep and goats. The bells around their necks providing a gentle soundtrack to this most serene of scenes. The Hotel itself is tucked away behind the tiny church with a small gate opening out onto a most picturesque courtyard and terrace. The actual driveway is situated just outside the village (worth pointing out as we drove past it the first time!) The hotel is superbly situated having on the one hand easy access into the tiny village and on the other a stunning vista across the valley floor The view is breathtaking. The mountains soar up on all sides yet the valley is has an open feel to it. I could not tire of looking at this view.

We were warmly welcomed with a glass of delicious Cava whilst we were shown around our room which was detached from the main building, I say room it was a lovely space with our own terrace at the front complete with loungers. Inside things were excellent two of the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat on faced out through the french window style door across the terrace and out towards the sunset. It was late October when we stayed and so whilst the sun was amazing it got a little cool in the evenings so having this space was lovely we could leave the door and side panel wide open but be sheltered from the cool evening breeze. All in all the room was excellent.

Back in the main building of the hotel were two fascinating sitting rooms one which contained the remnants of the old olive oil press and a glass panel in the floor with some beautiful old tiles displayed below. The restaurant was also situated here and it was here we found Son Palou's pot of gold!! The food, wow! At first we were a little surprised when we noticed that the menu suggested that we order before 5.30pm but on sitting down to dinner it became apparent why. the preparation and attention to detail was first class. Combining flavours that at every turn complemented the next bite provided a culinary experience I will find hard to see bettered. The chef is amazing adding a twist to the delicious Mallorcan fayre Each evening the special menu was an adventure for my taste buds however there was so much to choose from I could have stayed for months and not got sick of the menu. The restaurant is open to the public so I would suggest that even if you don't choose this hotel to stay in a dinner reservation would be a fabulous treat!

Finally the staff who were to a person friendly and helpful, everyone smiled and was eternally pleasant even when we inadvertently left taking the room keys with us! Nothing was a trouble and we felt we could have asked for anything.

Overall this is a stunning hotel, a place to get away from everything to wind down and charge the batteries. We have come away feeling refreshed and eager to book another stay as soon as possible.

Room Tip: You can have any as long as its not the one I want!

What else is there for us to say other than we have now booked for May 2014 for what will be our sixth visit to Finca Son Palou - my husband and I have just returned from six nights. It has never failed to meet our every need for peace and tranquillity in the magnificent Tramontana mountains. Although we did not have our usual cloudless skies this time, it was beautifully warm and still allowed us to relax at the pool every day. Marc continues at the helm, managing everything to perfection, and Gabriel,Tony, Deeana and Anna as always are wholly attentive without being intrusive. Housekeeping is immaculate.

We are not walkers so we always hire a car which is necessary to explore the many lovely towns and villages which are between 15 mins and 30 minutes drive down the winding mountain road in either direction. We especially like Pollensa town where, before eating at one of the many restaurants you should have a drink at the municipal cultural club in the square where the elderly Majorcans congregate – it has an amazing collection of art which should not be missed.
Breakfast is an absolute delight, mostly in the courtyard in the morning sun. Dinner, served by Gabriele and Tony, is always of a very high standard and in the courtyard, on the terrace or in the dining room – depending on the weather. The swimming pool overlooks the beautiful valley with the mountains in the backdrop.

Accommodation has much character and is of a high standard and is surrounded by magnificent views. May 2014 cannot come soon enough.

Room Tip: Sorry no 'Fitness Centre' which I ticked in error - but there are bikes if you wish to attem...

I stayed here with my husband for six nights at the beginning of October. If you are looking for bars, disco's & hoards of people it's not the place for you. If you are looking for excellent hospitality, great food & a peaceful setting in stunning countryside then you have found it.
We enjoyed the professional, genial & unpretentious service delivered by all the staff. We dined at the hotel 5 out of the six nights, sitting outside in the courtyard eating the divine food and drinking some fine Mallorca wine.
We hired a car from the airport and because the weather was mixed we used it for visiting different parts of the island. However if the weather had been better we would have been happy just to sit by the pool reading and soaking up the views. If you are feeling energetic there are a number of walks directly from the hotel, as well as some a bit further away, the hotel will provide directions for you.
Our room was a very good size, with a terrace overlooking the gardens. The hotel was spotless and the gardens well tended. We sat by the pool but didn't swim as the water seemed very cold but there were others more hardy souls who did venture in!!
Hope to return soon.

My wife and I stayed a week and then our grown up family of 10 persons celebrated my birthday
during four very successful days. The diners for 10 were outstanding and very festively arranged
by the cook and the staff. We all enjoyed the high quality of the rooms and the hotel as well as
the Orient surroundings. We made long walks in the hills and the valley.

Usually stay in May or June but this year we decided to visit in September. First time without a car as we had already seen what we want in Majorca. Total chill out week with bags of reading and sunbathing. Fortunately the weather was fabulous and we managed some short walks as well. Son Palou has a wonderful team with the multi lingual Marc and Anna at the helm. Gabriel and Tony look after you lunchtime and dinner time and Deeanna takes care of breakfast. Fare to and from airport is 50Euros and for us the best room is room 2. This small friendly finca has so many repeat visitors you will have to book early. We booked our favourite room twelve months in advance. We'll probably be back next year.

Room Tip: All good depending on your budget but we prefer Room 2
