“Wonderful short break!”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

Was slightly hesitant about going here having read some previous reviews but we need not have worried - this place is a gem of a place to stay!
If you are looking for fancy, all mod cons, staff that speak good english, busy place with lots going on then this isn't the place for you.......
HOWEVER if you are looking for peace & tranquility, simplicity and no fuss, somewhere to switch off, where you'll make friends with the sparrows and sheep more than fellow travellers, where you can sit smiling in the sunshine in the garden by the pool with no one else, enjoy walks into the mountains, discover off the beaten track places and also have easy access to the island.....
then this is a great place! And at a great price!
Yes the breakfast is simple....there are no shops and no dinner served in the hotel while we were there.....but that's all part of it's wonderful charm, why it enjoys a slow pace and why I'd certainly go back! The owners don't speak great English true but we always managed to find away to communicate and they were very kind to us and always smiling. There are 3 great places to eat very close.....especially a restaurant called Mandala (wonderful!) and more a short ride away. Our room was spacious, airy with a lovely comfy bed and the cleanliness of the rooms can't be faulted.
I'd definitely go back!

As August is a very busy month this was one of the few properties that had vacancy for for 2 rooms over a period of 7 days since I was very late in booking this vacation. Was indeed very reluctant to go there after reading a few of the reviews here on TA, but decided to take the chance....and what luck we did take the chance....:-) Since the expectations was so and so we were so pleased to find that all the negative comments made here was propably made after travellers had to high expectations of what they had booked and where this property was located.
Was met of such a friendliness and politeness that is hard to find somewhere else. The genuine friendliness was far over what you can find anywhere else on the island if not staying at the more posh upscale places. That the staff's knowledge of the English language is a challenge is something that travellers can overcome. Did not find it hard to get the messages across in any situations we experienced, but if your idea of a vacation resort is to have the dinner menu displayed with pictures...well this is not the place for you....!
This property is also a very good location for those who want to venture off into the moi\untains with very good marked tracks.
Rented a car at the airport, driving there is very easy and you need a car when staying there. This gave us the opportunity to explore the island in all directions....as we did. You find so many places that you never expected was on an island like this when venturing off in a car. We intended to stay in Port Soller but every hotel was full, so by missing that out we drove there one day instead....to be honest, that Port Soller had no vacancy when we tried to book our vacation was again a strike of luck when we saw the place...we just wanted to go back to the hotel in the mountains...with a great terrace to enjoy some nice wine and just enjoy the silence or the scenery from there..This is the place to stay for a relaxing vacation....and/or to explore the island in all direction...when you have been to some of the touristic areas on the island you will appreciate to come back to this hotel...
The hotel it self is very diverse in room sizes, but overall it has very spacious rooms with nice bathrooms. the hotel has no AC and when I saw the weather forecast with temperatures reaching 39 Celsius I was afraid that this was going to make us very uncomfortable, but with the dry air and lower temp. in the mountains at night this was actually very comfortable....did not miss AC once during our stay even with day temps reaching 39 as forecasted.
Dalt Muntanya has for sure become my little hidden treasure were I for sure will go back very soon....!!! Loved it and it gives you and insight in Majorca's "other face"...!!! But again, I think this is a place for The Traveller not The Tourist.

But the breakfast was really low profile, the rooms are clean but not really fancy, they don't speak really English, but the guy there is very kind. They are not really good in giving advices or orginise thing on the island.

We were attending a family wedding at Finca Son Palou and ideally would have stayed there overnight but they only take bookings of 5+ nights so we opted for nearby Dalt Muntanya - rather reluctantly having seen some poor reviews and nothing recent. It was clean and comfortable but the staff were rather surly (when you could find any) and we were grumpily handed a key and shown to our room by who I assume was the Manager. We arrived early afternoon and saw no other guests either in the hotel or outside by the pool and then left for the wedding up the hill. On returning just after midnight the hotel still seemed empty but I had a very bad nights sleep due to to guests noisily returning at intervals in the early hours. The soundproofing seemed poor and footsteps reverberated on the the tiled floors of the corridors. As our room faced the road (albeit in a remote, small, mountain hamlet) I was also disturbed by traffic all through the night. I cannot imagine where this was going or where the returning early morning guests were been as the isolated locatioin of the hotel is not conducive to clubbing.

Breakfast was pleasant enough, bread, croissants, preserves, a fresh orange and a plate of cold meat and cheese plus tea or coffee and taken outside on the terrace. The young waitress was pleasant but again no other guests appeared. When we tried to pay on departure there was nobody around and we eventually found the Manager who spoke very little English and seemed not to want payment. He then grudgingly took the money! At 110 Euros b&b per room this was not brilliant value, especially after sampling the delights of Finca Son Palou for the wedding reception and heard the comments of guests staying there.

Located in the tiny village of Orient, about halfway between Palma and Port Soller, Dalt Muntanya is well worth a visit if you want to unwind and take it easy for a few days. The service is friendly, the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated with en suite bathrooms, and the pool is big enough to do some lengths in to burn off the calories consumed in the restaurant. Meals are served on a lovely terrace and the food is excellent - lots of local produce cooked creatively with some modern touches. We certainly had no complaints about any of our dishes at either breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Orient itself is tiny with very little passing traffic. You will probably see more bikes than cars as the route through the mountains is perfect for seasoned cyclists. Maybe not somewhere to spend an entire week but a perfect place for a few days of relaxing and eating well en route to some of the busier resorts.

We stayed for one night. One night too many. There is no aircon, and in the middle of July that's HELL. The grumpy manager informed us that the room was perfect, and that he wouldn't give us a fan. The room was very basic - two beds pushed together. We had an ok, but no frills, dinner, but the horrible manger just made it a bad experience, so we spent our hot and sleepless night there and left before breakfast.
