Hotel itself is old fashioned, no TV's in the rooms, not that you would need them. This is the first year the hotel was All Inclusive, the food was very basic, and not alot of variety, but that said we didn't go hungry. The pool is very small and not alot of room around the pool. Poolside bar was great, and the lady who ran it was fantastic. No problem with any of the staff, all really friendly, and great with the kids.

We had no entertainment the week we was there as she was poorly, so it was very dull during the day. There is alot of groups of males and females, we had no problems with noise, although other guests had huge problems, and wasn't getting any better.

Not all rooms can be got to by a lify, so consider this. Great central location which is one of the reasons we booked. We would look next time for a hotel with a bigger pool etc, but we would go back as the price was good.

We arrived at the Hotel to be informed there wasn't rooms for us due to a plumbing problem and was asked if we would stay elsewhere for one night. We were offered taxi's there and back and also given a safe, fridge and a bottle of wine free of charge for each room for the inconvenience. The hotel we stayed in for one night was about 500 metres away and our stay there was fine, and we were back in our hotel next day before lunch. Maybe not the best start to a holiday but everyone was so kind and helpful it wasnt much of a hardship.
Our rooms overlooked the swimming pool with a bit of a seaview. Rooms were clean and towels and sheets changed on a regular basis.Shower looked very basic but was powerful and always lovely and hot. Food basic but good, could always find something to eat and poolside snacks and icecream available in between.
No complaints about the staff. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. The waiters were great, always chatting and joking with everyone.
Seemed strange only being able to order two drinks at a time which meant three of us had to go up each time to get drinks for all of us.To be fair it worked quite well and kept the queues down ( and probably the waste). we never waited more than 4/5 mins to be served.
Downside-hotel made into all inclusive this year which means people tend to stay on the hotel complex most of the day so it was difficult to get a sunbed -people were queuing up before the doors to the pool area opened and it was then a mad rush!! Pool was always crowded so pool not suitable for any serious swimming- too many children having a great time. Good job there was a beautiful beach opposite and staff happy for you to order drinks and take over to the beach.
Sometimes difficult to get a seat where the entertainment was, especially on the outside terrace.
We had to get our transport at 10 to 8 in the morning so couldnt have breakfast which started at 8. Would have been nice to be given a drink and snack before our journey to the airport.
Overall for what we paid it was very good value for money and ideal for families on a budget with young children.

We stayed at the Tropico in June 2011.Myself, husband and 18 month old daughter . It was a nice enough hotel, rooms were clean and the cleaner changed our towels etc every day. The staff were lovely especially Mary the childrens entertainer. It was only the other guests that bothered me. They had loads of stag and hen partys in and this really ruined the holiday, they need to decide if its going to be a family hotel or for same sex groups as the two do not match. We were forced to stay away from the pool area due to the bad language that the other guests were using. I was woken up one night by a very young girl vomitting in the hallway outside our room! It was disgusting, I called reception and they cleaned it up but I cant help thinking that the girl should have been told to leave or at least apologise to the other guests. Then we heard of a couple having sex in the hotel pool at 6pm whilst children were still wondering around! They had to give the pool a deep clean overnight. I really do think the hotel manager should have immediately thrown these guests out, this is unacceptable. I've been on 18-30 holidays in my time and not see such disgusting behaviour!
Overall I would say that if your lucky enough to stay here when there are no young same sex groups staying then you'll have a lovely time but it has put me off going back.

My family and I (husband and two teenagers) stayed in rooms 123 and 124 with a sea view, for a week. We had previously emailed the week before to re-arrange the rooms, this worked very well and there were no problems with the late change.
The rooms are basic but comfortable. They are very clean and kept well maintained through out the stay. However, the walls are ridiculously thin (so much so we could hear full conversations and toilet habits), if you expect to sleep then you are mistaken. Children/ teenagers returning in the early hours, combined with rude and loud residents makes it hard to sleep without lots of alcohol.
For what we paid, the food is very good value. There is always an option for everyone and even specialised childrens options. Indulge in the breakfast as it is the best meal of the day. Full english with ample other options, the juice machine is limited but sufficient.
Lunch is always a full buffet lunch with a alternative option of sandwhiches and crisps from the pool bar. They also provide cakes and biscuits after the lunch has finished (around 3pm).
Dinner was generally good, however repetative. Two weeks would therefore be too much.Keep the hotel card as they sometimes ask for evidence of your residence (due to no wirst bands, which would prove to be helpful).
Regarding the staff, we found all friendly and willing to help. The restaurant staff are quick and efficient, as are the bar staff. Due to the two drink rule, the queue can sometimes build but also reduces quickly as well. They were efficient and happy, so we do not understand the previous review.
The location is perfect, it is set right on the sea front and this helps with the running back for drinks. It is a two minute walk (if that) and although there is a road, the crossing is directly outside and it is reasonably quiet (no buzzy motorbikes).
The beach and the sea are clean and picturesque. The prices for 4 sunbeds and 2 umbrellas is21.60 euros. This is for the entire day and due to the loud and children consumed hotel pool, is a good price to pay to get away.
The waterpark was one of our three trips, western park. My two teenagers (17 + 20) went alone and found the bus there easy to do. Eventhough there is no service on the way back, it is only a 40 minute walk or taxi ride. Be warned, the queue for taxi's is massive and so leave an hour before closing (5pm) to skip this. It is made primarily for older children rather than families, we recommend that no one under 1.2m tall goes as there is NOTHING for them to do.
The trip to palma will cost you 20 euros in a taxi, go very early as it is busy. The tour bus is not worth doing as there is little to find out and costs a lots (15 euros a head). Howveer, the trip into Palma is worth doing as there is much to see, including the Cathedral (4euro entry).
The half day trip on the train and tram to Soller, was not worth the price (112 euros), yet still a good experience. Do not do the full day as it is tiring and too warm.

Overall, we would reccommend the hotel and the only downside is the room situation and the lack of sleep. We enjoyed this holiday and would go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!

just got back from the tropico hotel and overall had a pleasant time with my family. The rooms were always clean and tidy but basic but shower always went hot and cold.the food was on the main very good but sometimes it was no better than school dinners!plenty to pick from with fresh salads, pastas, rice, fish ,stews etc and they did serve chips every time but if you dont want chips then dont eat them!there was always plenty other things to choose from.the staff were excellent throughout our stay and never had to wait to get a table at meal times but at night the long queues at the bar for a drink were a nightmare!the childrens enertainer/bingo caller called Mari was brilliant, her calamatous bingo calling was comedy gold (e.g 4&8........49)but she was great with the kids.the pool was a bit small and crowded but if you wanted a sunbed you would get one no problem.so overall a nice hotel but would i come back here??????....propbably but not for a 2 week stay!

I left a review on the Hotel Tropico in 2008 and we really enjoyed the holiday, infact so much we booked to go again from 21st July 2011 to 4th August 2011.
Well what can i say, First choice have forced Gran isla( Tropico) to go All inclusive, the biggest mistake ever.
The Hotel is not big enough to cater for this and IMHO has ruined a great hotel, the queues at the hotel bar are not exaggerated in previous reviews , they were horrendous infact, queuing was right back to the lift/stairs and only on the odd time did it go down to around 10 people long.. this was caused by only 1 staff serving and when 3 were there it was crazy and chaotic to say the least, this is not good enough when children have to queue just to get a soft drink when a soft drinks machine would drastically reduce this waiting for them.
The bar staff must the slowest and laziest i have come across on any holiday we have had, 3 barmen.. 1 serving, 1 washing glasses and the other collecting glasses.. MAD!! when 1 could have washed and collected easily enough, i know this might sound petty but this was infuriating when they only allow you 2 drinks per visit to the bar and the glasses are not even half pints , even if they know you are a family of 2 adults and a small child you still have to queue twice just to get a drink each.. loads and loads were complaining about this.
Back to the bar staff.. 3 on at most times when infact it took 1 ( Gail) to run the pool bar all on her own and she worked like a trooper and ran it no probs and got through queues a damn site quicker than the 3 lazy so and so's did on a night.. one word of warning though, if you question what the bar staff serve they just tell you to go away and are abrupt.
Unlike the very friendly Gail who works none stop.. oh! and to add on Gails day off ( Tues) she gets replaced by 2 staff..LOL.. just shows they cannot cope like she does.. Gail you are a STAR!!
So enough of the bar staff.
The restaurant : Well not big enough to serve 3 meals a day but they did cope 90% of the time but Miguel the restaurant manager is the most ignorant man i have come across , i read the phrase little Hitler on previous reviews.. well that is a very apt name and suits him so so well, his partner in crime Juan( older one) is just as ignorant, what appalling manners, it costs nothing to be civil Miguel and Juan..
You cannot fault the hotel cleanliness and maids etc or receptionist staff , they are all great and were last time but the change to all Inclusive and a change to staff due to gran isla not keeping them longer than 2 years at a time has deffo spoilt this hotel.

So to some it up.. Hotel is good and in a prime location but All inclusive has made it mayhem and attracted what All inclusive does and in a small hotel like this it cannot cope with the added people that now stop in the hotel at night etc , so they do not have to spend to drink out in the bars when it is free at the hotel and this in turn creates the lack of seats as hotel isn't big enough to cope with the all the guests sitting at once etc..

So be prepared for queues and mayhem at night and the ignorant staff, they know who they are..

Regards
David / Debbie / Brittany.. Room 301.

p.s. Keep up the good work Gail.. :)
