Hotel Tropico Playa
Ranked #25 of 39 Hotels in Palmanova
Reviewed 8 August 2014

I stayed at Hotel Tropico from the 26/7/14 till the 2/8/14 with my mum and 7 year old sister.

During our stay, we did not see any problems regarding hygiene, however cleanliness (especially of the corridors, rooms and pool area) was an issue throughout our visit. When you come back from the beach, covered in sand, you would expect the maids to clean the floor? At a minimum give it a quick sweep, right? They cleaned the floor after our first visit to the beach, then never again for the rest of the week. We were using towels as stepping-stones in an attempt to keep our feet away from the sand.

Dinner is a typical, simple and repetitive buffet that we endured for the 7 nights we were there. However, once you are used to the sometimes cold chips and 4 meat/fish options, it does become bearable and you sometimes question if it is that bad. The kitchen and waiting staff are very polite and are all very, very good with young children. My younger sister had surges of excitement every mealtime as to what employee would clear our table - she usually longed to see Pedro. Pedro is the by far one of the best members of hotel staff; he loves every single 'prince' and 'princess'.

The pool area is somewhere we only managed to spend 45 minutes for our whole stay. It is relatively tidy although the pool is small and you will have a job to find a sunbed out of the shade - most of the loungers are directly below the looming shadow of the two hotel blocks. The 'snacks' are three different types of sandwiches, of which are soggy if they have salad cream in.

The entertainment doesn't live up to its name. Although some of the tribute acts are mildly amusing, most of the time you will find it difficult to stay watching until 11pm. One of the most dreadful 'performances' is from the 'DJ', where he plays bad quality music for an hour; dancing around like he's also on the dancefloor. We watched:
-ABBA tribute by two women
-Flamenco dancing
-'Claudia', a tribute to Diana Ross, ABBA, Adele and more.
-The 'DJ', two nights.
-A night where a man of Spanish descent came in and played the Wii with around 4/5 members of the audience.

The reception staff of the hotel are not the politest people nor the most helpful, however they are kind and considerate. They are good sellers of the WiFi (20 euros for the week) and a safe (18 euros for the week). If you are not willing to pay for WiFi, there is a McDonald's less than 100 yards from the hotel which I believe does offer WiFi.

If you booked your stay relatively late, it is very, very likely you will not have a sea-view room. Especially if you are given any room ending in 11-19. You will look out onto a brick wall, with a path running directly outside of your hotel room - you are stripped of feeling any security.

The location is stupendous. You are less than a minute's walk from the beach and you can get 3 sunbeds for 18 euros for the full day - a brilliant investment considering the temperature of the sand. There is a supermarket next door where you can get a big bottle of cold water for 1 euro, however the water will not stay cool as there is no fridge in your room. There is a British run cafe adjacent which does amazing food (especially bacon and cheese baguettes).

Overall, a good location with beach views from a standard hotel with basic yet clean facilities. Great souvenir and beach shops and even bars and clubs in walking distance. Not recomended for families, but would suit most needs for teens, adults and couples.

Room Tip: Book in advance for a sea-view room. Rooms ending in 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are good for that vie...

We stayed at the tropico for a week all inclusive, just as well drinks filled us up as food was shocking flys in the food when the chef was told he just licked his lips ( shocking) if you like salad it's ok everything else terrible. The pool was small and was never clean while we where there we had to wash the tables down on a morning. Rooms maids came in the make the beds the flor was never swept sand everywhere and we didn't go on the beach. Staff were very friendly apart from the Scottish woman on reception. Entertainment was shocking only an hour a night nothing at all for the kids would not advise for a family holiday.

I came with my sister for a relaxing break between 14 & 18th June. The staff were pleasant & friendly. Located opposite the beach & a beautiful prom for a walk with lots of bars, restaurants and sea front activities. There was entertainment during the evening. The only thing missing, as at any overseas hotel, was cider, which I can't understand as it's a similar price to lagers. We would return again.

Room Tip: Request pool/ sea view, 122, 123, 124, 125, then same on floor 2, 3, 4,

Got back 2 days ago from a 10 night stay at Tropico Playa. The location of this hotel is second to none. Perfect. Cross the road outside and you are on the beach. Rooms comfortable if a little dated but the big plus for me was the lack of noise at night time. No loud bangs and yells from guests which was a first ! The pool is quite small and has limited sunbeds , although typically the British put towel's on these at the crack of dawn then swanned off ! We make use of the beach every day which was clean and never crowded. Don't hire umbrellas, buy parasols from up the road for about 8 Euros. Also under the stairs just off reception, holiday makers leave their old lilos etc when they leave for other guests to use so check here before you go and buy ! Also beach towels are 2 for 10 Euros from a shop up the road. There was an hours entertainment each night from 10 - 11pm which was on the most part quite good and the bar is open from 5 until midnight. (there are plenty of bars along the road if you still fancy more to drink). What makes me give this hotel 5 stars is the unbelievable friendliness of the staff . ALL the staff from cleaners to waiters are genuinely nice ! My 11 year old daughter was quite taken with Pedro, Mary and Cisco. Food wise there is always something to eat even for the fussiest of eaters and what we all had we enjoyed. The breakfast every day was lovely if like me you like a full English ! You can get paper cones of crisps from the pool bar and toast your own sandwiches too. There is also a freezer full of tubs of ice creams and lollies. All in all a wonderful holiday. We will be definitely be back !

Room Tip: The higher up the floor, the better the view. We stayed in 8 which had the shade in the afternoon wh...

We have just returned from a very pleasant 12 night [16-28 july] stay at the Tropico Playa in Palma Nova where everything was as good or better than expected. We arrived just after 10 in the morning and were checked in right away with no fuss and the lovely receptionist explained all we needed to know and directed us to the pool bar area and said our room would be ready just after 12 and if it was ready earlier she would come and get us which is what she did at about 11 30.The room was fine with a balcony overlooking the pool and a brilliant sea view. The bathroom was of a good size and the shower was easy to work and always plenty of hot water. The little basket of goodies in the bathroom was a good touch[I know you normally get a few goodies] but toothbrushes and toothpaste and a comb[ no good for me though] were a bit different.Beds were very comfortable and when we requested 2 extra pillows the head housekeeper came armed with 4 in case we meant 2 each which was very welcome. The bedding and towels were changed everyday but as for the cleaning of the room it was what my dear old mum called "a lick and a promise".Hiring a safe is worth the money [18 euro] just for peace of mind as you really don't need to carry any cash with you if you are staying on the premises or just going to walk across the road to the fantastic sandy beach and clear blue sea which most days was warmer than the hotel pool.Air condition was not only efficient but almost silent. The dining room and food was ok,you will always get your moaners but we all know what to expect in an a/I situation on the food front so if you don't like it don't go all inclusive.Plenty of choice of help yourself drinks at all meals including beer for breakfast, waiting staff very good at keeping tables tidy at all times without being obtrusive, always willing to chat and have a joke but on a couple of occasions when the dining area was full the Maitre D was a bit of a flapper but never shouted at his staff, very professional. The staff at the main bar in the evening and the pool bar during the day were excellent although sometimes you wondered if they would have moved a bit faster if you were paying for your drinks.Olaf at the pool bar always had time for everyone and looked after the first aid aspect as well.Upstairs Pedro was master of the bar, backed up by a good team who didn't take long to know what your regular drink was,but if you do visit remember it is only 2 drinks per person at a time.this is not a problem as there was rarely a queue,so just go back for 2 more if ther is more than 2 in your party. The only faults were that for the size of the hotel the pool area was too small and unless you were up at the crack of dawn the English posing as germans had bagged all the sunloungers. The other fault was the lack of entertainment, nothing at all for children and the evening entertainment was abysmal except for Leapy Lee who worked very hard. The location is second to none virtually 20yds to the beach,Some of the guests were absolutely smashing[especially 2 who know who they are]who made it a fun holiday.I cannot finish without special mention to the star of the hotel who is the lovely scotish lady on reception who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our transfer was correct and ordering my favourite newspaper to make it a just pleasant stay.

Room Tip: just ask for a sea view but I believe the hotel policy is on a first come first served policy a s th...

Me and my friend stayed in the Tropico Playa from the 13th-20th July, and it was a really pleasant stay.
We arrived earlier than the check in time (states 2pm, we arrived at 10am) but nothing was said and we were allowed to check in and was told what our room number was and given our key, which was really convenient as we had event tickets bought for that day.
Our room was massive, with 4 beds in so we both had a double bed each, a massive balcony with a table and chairs, and overlooked the sea so we had a beautiful view! It was clean and the beds were comfy so nothing to complain about there! A safety deposit box was 18 euros I think for the week, and it was really secure with a pin number and really easy to use. The air conditioning is absolutely brilliant as well, we had to turn it off sometimes because we were that cold.

The food was great, we had breakfast a few times and there was a choice of cooked or continental, both were really yummy, but we always had lunch and dinner. There was always some soup, fresh salad, fruit and veg and the meat was always cooked wonderfully and we always really enjoyed it, and always had a really good selection of desserts. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and always made conversation with you which was nice also.

Me and my friend only went round the pool area once as we were never up in time to get sunbeds, but the beach is literally a stones throw away and its really nice. The pool area is small, and the shade starts to come on it at maybe about 4pm? but its relaxing and the pool is lovely, although it is very deep!

We never stayed in for the entertainment, but when we went and got our drinks to take to the room whilst we were getting ready it always looked of good quality and everyone else seemed to be enjoying it. The AI being until midnight is brilliant also, and they are a good size and strength of drinks! If you're staying in this hotel but are planning on going out in Magaluf on the strip then its literally a 15/20 minute walk, depending on how fast you're walking it! And its a really pleasant walk and you don't feel like its long at all. I walked back after a night out in 10 minutes, so its not bad at all!

It is a basic hotel, and there aren't any added frills, but the food and AI is brilliant, the staff are friendly, and your rooms are cleaned and spacious with great air con, and for what me and my friend paid we were really really happy with it! Its a lovely little hotel and it is in a great location with supermarkets all around it, and McDonalds is right across the road with free wifi as well. We really enjoyed our stay and didn't have anything to complain about, and I would stay here again!
