My partner and I have just returned from Hotel Tropico Playa (19th-26th Sep 2009). We are a couple in our 20’s and we found this hotel suitable for our needs. We were very pleased with the central location directly facing the beach and surrounding many shops, bars and restaurants. Although we went half board we didn’t want to be restricted to the Hotel so we ate out most nights; however we had breakfast a few mornings and found a decent selection of foods (sausages, bacon, eggs, hash browns, beans etc). Be prepared to queue for quite a while to get into the dining room.

Our room was small but perfect for us, very clean with maid service everyday and fresh towels everyday too. The beds were very uncomfortable but we expected this. Our balcony had a big tree leaning into it so we didn’t spend much time out there with fear of attracting bugs and the lack of space. Air con in the rooms was great, we had it on constantly. Also recommend to get a safe for personal belongings.

We went on a few different trips including Marine Land, Katmandu and Pirates, all of which are highly recommended. The pool was small but clean and ideal for relaxing, however we preferred the beach which was just across the road and was beautiful (3.50 euro per bed). BE WARNED of people on the beach selling fresh pineapple, watermelons and juice, we decided to get some pineapple and were given 2 small slices at 10 euro, complete rip off!
A good sports bar with cheap drink and lovely food is “The Venetian Palace”. Ideal for any football fan as it shows all live matches on big screens.

Palma Nova is a beautiful, quiet resort however if you wish for more lively entertainment at night, Magaluf is within walking distance.

I stayed in Hotel Tropico with a group of 3 friends in September 2009 and had a great time!
The hotel is in a great location, which the beach just opposite, a supermarket down the road, another great thing about the location of the hotel was the proximity in relation to Magaluf; which was in walking distance but was far enough away to get away from it all when you didnt feel like partying (even though we were a group of 18 year olds we didn't much fancy staying in the centre of Magaluf!!).
The rooms were great as well, nice size and cleaned everyday, but we woke up aching each morning because the beds aren't the most comfortable beds in the world! We were at the back of the hotel in a separate building (we think this is because we were a single sex, younger group), which was great for us because it meant we weren't waking the rest of the hotel up when we got back late, we also got a bigger balcony!
The food in the hotel was what I would expect from any half-board hotel, not rubbish but not amazing either, by the end of the week I was fed up of having 'mix & match' dinners & was craving 'proper food' although saying that the food served was very healthy with lots of fruit, the only downside was having to pay for drinks at dinner time.
But I would definitely recommend this hotel & would definitely stay there again!

Just returned from Tropico after a week there with my mum. Read these reviews before we went and the hotel is not a thing as described - food was good, great selection every night and friendly staff throughout. The rooms although basic were clean - yes small but we were not intending to spend all week in our bedroom!! Evening entertainment was like any other hotel we've visited. A wonderful hotel that does all it needs to do and more. our only problem was poor weather!

Hi all reviews are 100% correct ! Pool is tiny no LILOS allowed do not make same mistake as me and buy the kids one to be told its not permitted, there is very faded notices up stating this! We got a room at the rear of the building in total we climbed about 60 steps which led us to a hovel of a room that smelt of damp, balcony door was made of frosted toughened glass over looking rubble...If i was getting this place free for a week i would not go back! Its a shabby hotel with nothing only the view if you are lucky enough to get a room at the front of the hotel..Food was sloppy! I could go on forever.

Stayed at Hotel Tropico Playa from the 5th September for a fortnight with my partner, daughter and my partners 2 sons, along with his mum and dad. First impressions was a great location we were in as right opposite the beach. Our room we were given was 4th floor which was a bit of a pain with my daughter in pushchair and the lift being incredably slow! Rooms very small and very dated,no tvs in room. Food was ok but after 3 days id had enough and so had the rest of the party, seemed to be the same choice every evening. Resturant is to small for the size of the hotel, had to que up most mornings and nights, when your actually in there its cramped! The staff here were very friendly by far the friendliest staff ive ever come accross whilst staying at any hotel abroad. The pool area is way to small for the hotel, the pool is very small and very deep if you have young children, the babys pool if you can call it that was so dirty and very cold. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone who has walking difficulties or problems with going up and down stairs because part of the hotel doesnt accomadate a lift so you have no choice but to access rooms by stairs and the amount of stairs you have to go up to get to the pool area. All in all this hotel is very dated and need of a major referb! but the staff here are lovely. Prefered my stay last year in magaluf, prices here now are ridiculous and until they come down will not be returning, for some reason prices in palma nova are slightly higher than magaluf. My advice is dont go,its not a 3 star more like a 1-2 star and heard that thomsons have removed this hotel from there brouchers for next year probally something to do with the amount of complaints.

Stayed at the Tropico Playa for one week in September. We planned an inexpensive break so we were not expecting anything spectacular. HOWEVER...we did expect edible food. It was absolutely disgusting. Rotting fruit left in bowls in the dining room day after day. Small plates, not that there was anything worth putting on them. Waiting staff only offered us a drink twice in a whole week, and yet they go round shaking the tips tin and asking for donations! Our room was tiny, although clean, but the sink was cracked, the air conditioning was broken, and the beds were rock hard! We did, however, have a beach view. The entertainment was dreadful, even the bingo calling was painful. WE managed to enjoy ourselve because the location is fabulous. The beach is wonderful, and there are lovely walks. You can easily walk to Magaluf, and we found the local bus service excellent. We went into Palma and went to the Cathedral. We loved Palma Nova, and when you see that people return to this hotel year after year it is because they shove a bit of paper under your door offering you 30% discount if you re-book. If they offered us 99% we would not return to this hotel. They only decent meal we had all the week, apart from the ones we bought ourselves elsewhere, was at the Pirate Show. Excellent night out, not to be missed. But you end up back at the Tropico unfortunately.....Also there is only 1 TV in the whole hotel, there are none for hire, and no hairdryers for hire either.

Just back today from a weeks stay at the Tropico Playa in Palma Nova.
Be warned when booking your holiday at this hotel, make it crystal clear you do not want to be put in rooms between 30 & 43 why one asks, ok this block has no lift, so if you like climbing 50 odd steps ( some outsde ) to your room with fully loaded suit cases please be my guest.
When we climbed Mt Everest and got to our room it smelt foysty, the toilet door would not shut and the view was realy nice ( a wall & Palm tree ) plus my wifes back was killing her from the climb with her case.
We saw our rep and demanded a move of room, which we would have to wait 3 days for, which my wife was not happy about because of climbing the stairs was hurting her back.
Day 2 the air con was not working properly in our room which we reported, but only got fixed when the air con unit leaked water over the light, so we were without air con over night.
Day 3 the toilet would not flush, and we got the bathroom door fixed.
Day 4 moved room to a block with a lift a ( these rooms are ok )
We spoke to others staying in our block ( rooms 30 to 43 ) and they were far from happy bunnies, so be WARNED only book a room with LIFT ACCESS as we were NOT AWARE.

The food was ok, the Hotel's location is top rate, the beech is first class, some good shops to look round will take hours to check them out.The night entertainment in Palma Nova for the size of the resort in one word RUBBISH, compared to other places i have been.
Mind you, it's not far to walk into Magalluf about 10 to 15 minutes where the night entertainment is good if you like noisey bars where kids have one shandy to many throw it all up in the street for you to slip on your back side in ( get the picture )
TIP OF YOUR LIFE....go someplace else
Would i go back......if you payed me NO!.
