This hotel is in a prime setting. Right on the promenade and onto the beach. All the rooms overlook the bay and it is stunning. We were on the 8 floor. The bedroom is quite small but hey who spends all day in there. It was very nicely done out and so was the bathroom. Plenty of piping hot water at all times of the day. The staff are lovely and arranged a hire car for us which had a discount and only cost £100 for 4 days which we were delighted with. Travelling around the island is the best way to enjoy the atmosphere. There are some beautiful places to visit and the roads are easy, but do take a map as the one given with hire car was useless. The day we went into Palma we took a bus right outside the hotel and it cost 3 euros each to the cathedral. Much better than trying to find a parking space.
The majority of people do go back regularly in fact we met a couple who had been 33 times!! I think it is a bit of a competition for the regulars averaging between 18 and 26 times. I did not find that staff treat us any different from them and though the regulars sat together a lot they were still very friendly and gave advice on things to see.
The breakfast was great but the only downside was the evening meal. Soup a bit watery but ok. The salads were very good, but that is what you would expect for a salad! The meats were terrible, overcooked, dry and tasteless. The vegetables were soggy and discoloured from being cooked too long. The pepper sauce was bland with a couple of peppercorns floating on the top. The steak and kidney pie was ground mince and looked terrible so I did not try it. The food is very English which I don't mind if it is cooked well. The only meat that was edible was the chicken on the bone. The curry had no taste. I am not very keen on sweets but the rice pudding was lovely, my husband who loves sweets said they were tasteless. Nice cheese and biscuits. You have to pay for any water at the table and you do not get coffee free after the meal.
The pool is small but even though they said the hotel was full there were ample beds and seating.
I would recommend this hotel if you could get B&b and perhaps eat at all the different restaurants locally. We ate out a couple of nights but felt that we were paying twice.

Room Tip: Corner suite on a high floor to get the sun all day

Stayed at the Son Matias Beach Hotel for a week on the 4th March 2014 which was the first day of the season at this hotel. The hotel had mostly older guests this week but later in the week younger people arrived. It would seem that the hotel attracts older guests throughout the season and they seem to cater for them while we were there. I think that this is because they have many guests returning year after year and also that it is cheaper at the start of the season. I can understand this, as the hotel is one of the best if not the best I have stayed in while holidaying abroad. The staff were very polite and attentive to the guests. All rooms have sea views and are well furnished and of a good size. A nice touch is that they put a litre of milk and two bottles of water in the fridge for you when you arrive. There is plenty of variety of food and it is always hot, not just warm as most of the other hotels abroad. The entertainment at night was of a very good standard while we were there. In the afternoon there is line dancing or tea dances with free tea and biscuits. You do not have to take part, you can just go down and have tea and biscuits and take them outside round the pool area without anyone getting you to join in.
The dining room is nicely set out with views of the beach and sea while having your meals or sit outside on the terrace in the warmer weather. Breakfasts are especially good with a huge choice of cereals, fruit, croissants’ and cold meats and cheeses. You can also have a full English breakfast with black pudding and English sausages as well as all the usual bacon, tomatoes etc. The evening meals were also very nice with plenty of choice and lovely salads.
I would have no problems recommending this hotel to anyone who is looking for a good quality hotel and great location when in Palma Nova.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on 6th floor or above and if possible pool view

We wre a young early 50's couple and most has already been stated, however we felt the need to just say how much we enjoyed our week at this hotel. Ok the hotel was mostly used by the older generation but having read reviews prior to booking we expected this and as such added to a real stress free time so I've just listed some points we found

Good points:
Had a lovely quiet room on 8th floor overlooking both sea and pool
Fridge, wifi and pool towels all free of charge
Excellent food especially breakfast
Shops, restaurants, pubs immediately outside hotel
Jacuzzi was warm
Plenty of sockets in room - we found 4 and as we had lots of gadgets was great
Bus stop immediately outside hotel

Not so good points:
Pool was icy cold (stayed for a week at Easter)
No waiter service in bar during evening entertainment (which surprised us due to the nature of the clientele)

Room Tip: Stayed in room 809 which was fab

Have just returned from a great week at the Son Matias Beach hotel in Palmanova. A really friendly hotel with first class food, and superb position on the beach. First hotel we've been to that really cater for the British tourist. I would certainly recommend a stay here.
