We stayed in Bella Maria Hotel, located right above the restaurant, so we enjoyed dinner a dozen times here during our vacation.
The staff were really lovely, welcoming and helpful. The owner, Tomeu, greets you personally and ensures you are satisfied with the service and food. He also speaks various languages well. Just ask whenever in doubt about what is on the menu (this is the only drawback of the restaurant, as it needs to be remade and better translated). Staff also speaks freely about the ingredients and are open to suggest the freshest and tastiest dish available that evening.
Our favourites were the Sangria (which the hosts claim to be the best on the island :)) and the Paella (one of the best we have ever had). The Fritto Mallorqui, the huge steamed mussels, the filled tomato appetisers and the mixed fish platter were also very tasty. But to be honest, everything else on the menu we tried was very good. However, the desserts are only okay, nothing too special, so we advise you to rather fill up on the delicious starters and main courses.
Reacting to previous reviews of the restaurant and the apartments, the appetisers (bread, olives, allioli and pate) that the waiter brings to your table whilst you wait for the dishes to be prepared do cost 1.5 euro per head. However, in Spain (as in other southern European countries such as Italy), tipping more than a few euros is uncommon and often the cost of bread/appetisers is counted as a 'service charge'. If you do not wish to have bread and the appetisers, simply refuse them. However, we always received free fruit (2 slices of melons) and free 'chupitos' (shots) of Mallorcan Hierbas liquor or pina colada at the end of our meals.
The overall ambience of the restaurant is very typical of a family-run restaurant with simple design. Don't expect anything fancy, just great food and value for money! Kind of like an Italian Trattoria.
