Description: Can Tomeu is one of those last restaurants remaining in Portocolom with the ancien taste of east Majorca cooking. Tomeu the owner born 1943 is extraordinary healthy and active with the old style behavior with customers of those pioners in turism. Always ready to offer for free a local fruit o a local shooter drink just to be sure that the tourist feel the real taste of the island Maria her wife born in 1945 represents the cooking tradition, always working with season produts especially majorcan lovely summer vegetables & fruits. Also meat & fish selectet from the best local farms & fisher boats. Helpfully reinforced with two womens in the chitchen & other two young waitresses. If you want to avoid fusion meals & extortionate first coast line prices. Can Tomeu is a restaurant not to loose.

We stayed in Bella Maria Hotel, located right above the restaurant, so we enjoyed dinner a dozen times here during our vacation.

The staff were really lovely, welcoming and helpful. The owner, Tomeu, greets you personally and ensures you are satisfied with the service and food. He also speaks various languages well. Just ask whenever in doubt about what is on the menu (this is the only drawback of the restaurant, as it needs to be remade and better translated). Staff also speaks freely about the ingredients and are open to suggest the freshest and tastiest dish available that evening.

Our favourites were the Sangria (which the hosts claim to be the best on the island :)) and the Paella (one of the best we have ever had). The Fritto Mallorqui, the huge steamed mussels, the filled tomato appetisers and the mixed fish platter were also very tasty. But to be honest, everything else on the menu we tried was very good. However, the desserts are only okay, nothing too special, so we advise you to rather fill up on the delicious starters and main courses.

Reacting to previous reviews of the restaurant and the apartments, the appetisers (bread, olives, allioli and pate) that the waiter brings to your table whilst you wait for the dishes to be prepared do cost 1.5 euro per head. However, in Spain (as in other southern European countries such as Italy), tipping more than a few euros is uncommon and often the cost of bread/appetisers is counted as a 'service charge'. If you do not wish to have bread and the appetisers, simply refuse them. However, we always received free fruit (2 slices of melons) and free 'chupitos' (shots) of Mallorcan Hierbas liquor or pina colada at the end of our meals.

The overall ambience of the restaurant is very typical of a family-run restaurant with simple design. Don't expect anything fancy, just great food and value for money! Kind of like an Italian Trattoria.

We were greeted in such a friendly fashion by the staff who were attentive throughout our visit. Free appetisers got us in the mood and we had the most gorgeous fresh food. My daughter and I had the best paella ever and my husband loved his steak au poivre. The wine was super and we also were given fresh melon and pineapple shots. What service. We went a second time and had the same experience. Plus the prices were so reasonable. I would recommend Tommy's to anyone. A true Spanish eating experience.

We ate here a couple of times based on recommendations from Trip Advisor.

Not the best location as in the shadow of Hotel El Vistamar so nothing to really look at.

But it has the feel and look of a more authentic Mallorcan restaurant (rather than the fine dining / fusion establishments found mostly every where else - can get all that at home).

The owner is incredibly polite and comes and welcomes you with a big smile and a handshake. He son was very polite and helpful with recommendations from the menu as well.

I believe the owner is called Tommy / Tomeu?!
He serves you the wine and tells you where it is from and is very informative. (This is something that a lot of restaurants in the western world, UK included fail to do) Basic, good knowledge!!

We had the house white most of the time as it was very good indeed. (I used to be a wine merchant so I would like to think I know a good wine, but it does boil down to personal preference at the end of the day) But I recommend the house white, you won't go far wrong!

The food is very good!! Mussels very good.
Garlic prawns very good!

I had "The Fish Grill" one night which came with large prawns - (shell still on and they were large), Razor clams (I had not had before and thought they were delicious!), mussels, Sea Bream, I can't think what else came with it. Anyway it was good!!

Overall this is one of the better restaurants in Porto Colom. Not a great location but service, food and wine out weigh that. Not at all pretentious / pretending to be something it is not. (I am quite happily at home in pretentious establishments but just not what I want from a holiday)

The price was very reasonable as well - a bonus!

At the end of the night they offer a free complimentary shot of Pino Colada!
Nice touch.

We went to Can Tomeu as we were in a mood for home cooked Paella - and we the decision was well made. Tomeo introduced himself when we arrived and welcomed us warm and friendly. The meal was well cooked, not fancy, nothing special but alright. IT is a disadvantage that the restaurant is locaed behing one of those big 1970s hotel buildings in a smaller street of Porto Colom. There is no nice view and not a real holiday atmosphere. However you get a good value - we paid 35 Euro for Paella (served the two of us), the datils en bacon, a water and a mojito (which was ok, too).
