“Just what we needed!”
Reviewed 8 August 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 1 week beginning of August. The hotel is very clean, very friendly staff, adults only, in a good area - If you want nightclubs and loud places this isn't the place for you! It is very quiet a plus we thought! It appears to be a resort that Spanish people visit as the weekend as it got busy with Spanish families visiting.
The rooms were very clean, with a balcony which had lovely views across the port. The only problem was that we were in a separate part of the hotel across the road which did not have a lift - not good when carrying suitcases up 6 flights of stairs! The room had air conditioning but the room could have done with being a little cooler.
There are 2 swimming pools one reserved for elite rooms - which you can pay for 5 Euros, and one for all the other rooms. The other pool was great as it has clean toilets nearby, a snack bar and lots of sun beds. The elite pool does not have anywhere to get food or drink - which means you would have to go to the other pool.
Restaurants – Breakfast was served alfresco which is great, lots of choice, hot and cold food really had everything you could possibly want. Evening meal was good, lots of choice of salads for starters, and great choice for deserts. Wine was very good both in price and quality. Unfortunately the main meals did not quite go together.
We ate out at a couple of restaurants in the local area and took a nice leisurely walk around the port which felt very safe to do at night. Tip there is a little tiny supermarket – if you come out the restaurant turn left, then right and you will see it! You can buy large bottles of water for 0.70 Euros, the lady doesn’t speak very good English but you can get all that you would need for your room – wine, snacks etc.
Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and would return.

This is the first time i've been negatively critical in any hotel review. The hotel purports to have four stars, so the bar needs to be appropriately.
This is NOT a UK standard of a 4* hotel.
The rooms are just ok. No facilities to make a hot drink. The hotel bar closes before midnight. Our room curtains were tattered and torn. The wonky shower head ensured that the whole bbathroom was soaked unless particular planning was employed.
On a lighter note - we alledgedly had a 'sea view' room. If the wind blew just hard enough and swayed the palms on the horizon, and if visibility was good enough, then the sea could just be seen.
The restaurant states a closure time of 9.30 pm. Yet if you are seated in one of the higher restaurant rooms, the food actually stops being served on those floors at 8.30pm. The result is that you are walking up and down stairs to get your food.
The choice of salads was good. The choice of mains was in my opinion poor.
At no time during our stay when the temp was between 32 and 37 degrees, was the air conditioning on in the restaurants. The result - sweating profusely whilst eating.
The wine choice was good and the prices very reasonable.
This restaurant also fell foul of the discourteous habit of taking away one person's plate whilst the other was still eating.
I've saved the worst for last. This purports to be a 4* hotel - and yet they have the audacity to actually additionally charge for the use of the fridge in the room. What a cheap shot !!
Would I go back to this hotel - yes. It's ok, not bad, fairly average. But next time I wouldn't be going thinking that I was staying in a 4* place. It's at best a 3*

We could not give this its 4star rating as a few litte things let it down.
The plusses where it was clean, friendly staff and only adults.
The set up of the hotel was strange with all dinning being across the road in another building and the swimming pool across a different road.
We where dissappointed there was no brewing facilities in your room and if you wanted the use of the fridge it would cost 3 euro per day.
The area is very nice and the walk along the arbor to the small marina is very nice. saying this there isn't a lot to do and most of the bars and resturants donn't open until 20-00.

Room Tip: Take a travel kettle.

This was our second visit to this hotel in three years. we invited another couple with us because we knew how good the hotel and area are.

The food is excellent. Very varied, always hot (a microwave is provided for those who like it even hotter) and always delicious. The staff are very friendly and try their best to provide a good service. the cleaners are to be commended for excellent service. Towels are changed daily and bedding was also changed frequently. The air conditioning was not as strong as I remembered and maybe needs servicing to get up to 100% power. The rooms are spotlessly clean as are all the public areas of the hotel. There is also a frige available to hire in each room which is great for chilling water and snacks.

We used the eilte pool which was expensive at 5 euros extar per person per day (and was a shame as this pool used to be included in the basic package). For this you recieved a towel, which I would have liked to change every day, instead of hang on the balcony to dry, but we were told this was not possible. The best thing about the elite pool was that it was very quiet and peaceful and we often had the pool to ourselves. It would be nice to have the option to purchase a drink though.

Porto Colom is very beautiful, but is very peaceful and there isnt a whole lot going on unless you are prepared to take a lengthy walk. I can recommend a walk through the residential streets at the back of the hotel, because there are two BEAUTIFUL bays with viewing benches, which we didnt discover on our first visit. Stunning!

Would I come back here? Definitely!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea-view on a high level for the best views

We enjoyed another short break (5 nights using Tesco/Cosmos vouchers) at Ola El Vistamar middle July and had a lovely time. The hotel is now adults only; we upgraded to a Junior Suite on 6th floor with amazing views of the natural bay. Upgrading gave us access to the Elite Pool area which was really quiet and had the most comfortable sun beds I’ve laid on for quite some time. The only comment I would have for the hotel is they need to provide a bit more for the Elite Club guests – the pool area needs to have a coffee machine or just jugs of water for guests, there is nothing at all unless you go over to the main pool bar.
The hotel itself is maintained to an extremely high standard and the cleaners are excellent at keeping everything spotless. The reception staff are also very helpful and attentive.
Now the hotel is adult only the evening meals have definitely improved, starters and desserts are good although the main courses were disappointing again and could do with improving.
We would recommend this hotel and the resort itself, it is very un-commercialised and relaxing, a lovely quiet place for a relaxing break with lots of lovely places to walk to.
Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor - you will love the wonderful views

My wife and I booked 2 weeks at the Ola Hotel Vistamar in June/July 2012 on a B&B basis. We chose this hotel as we had stayed there before about 15 yrs ago.
Our room was on the first floor and was a twinbedded room and first impressions were very favourable. The room was clean, airy,no smells and looked out over the bar C`an Tomeu ( Tommys Bar ) and the Air Con unit was quiet.
We had clean towels daily and the room was cleaned daily also. Breakfast was good with a choice of continental or a hot breakfast. Being Englsih we choose the hot - bacon was a funny shape but was tasty.Eggs, beans, omellettes also supplied.
We spent most of our time around the pool meant for general customers and this had sufficient sunbeds and shades. The pool bar was very good and supplied hot/cold drinks and food at reasonable prices.
The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful particularly the night porter whose party trick was to turn on the lawn sprinklers when he came to work and get himself wet - even though he did use an umberella!!

I would have no problems in reccommending this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: any room will be ood

we stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Porto Colom! The hotel is extremely clean and well decorated. The air conditioning worked but was not as good as other hotels we have staed in over the past 3 years We stayed in the anex part of the hotel opposit the main hotel above the restarant and had a double room which was very modern and spacious with great storage amenities. The hotel has two outdoor pools, one with a snack bar which is the busier of the two. There was always a sun lounger available at both pools but if you do not go earlier in the day you don't get the best choice of where to sit! The hotel has tennis courts, mini golf, a sauna and jacuzzi, massages and entertainment nights. We went half board so we got our breakfast and dinner which is a buffet. The variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, breads and desserts is fantastic however only one type of meat is served each night which alternates between pork, chicken, rabbit and veal. Overall good variety and something to suit everyone! One downfall I would say is that sometimes we had to queue to wait for a tablet at breakfast or dinner but we never waited longer than ten minutes. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly Porto Colom itself is very quiet - it is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. There are bars and restaurants at the opposite side of the harbour from the hotel (it is a ten minute stroll away). The beach Cala Marcal is about a ten or fifteen minute walk from the hotel with shops along the way. There are restaurants, bars and souvenir shops situated next to the beach. There is a bus stop a few minutes away from the hotel which runs services to other towns around Mallorca The views from the hotel are spectacular. This hotel deserves every one of it's four stars!!!
