We visited this hotel from the 12th-19th October, and I must we had a fantastic time. We would definitely recommend this hotel but as explained further on, we do have one or two suggestions that we think could improve the hotel further. Rooms were spacious, modern & cleaned to a very high standard. In a standard double room, the bed consisted of 2 twin beds pushed together, to be honest we would have prefered a double bed but this is personal preference (and if you upgraded to a Suite, I think you get this option anyway). There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room, we think this would have been a nice touch. We were situated on the 4th floor (7 floors in total, the higher you are the better), overlooking the habour and lighthouse in the distance. There are 2 main pools, both are kept very clean. There are plenty of sunbeds and sun brolly's. We spent our time at the main pool which has the water feature and the pool side snack bar (which offered great variety at good prices) but the other 'elite' pool you had to pay extra for. Yes this has a view of the habour but we thought this was the only benefit, as there is no bar to get refreshments. We didn't think it was worth the extra charge, we actually prefered the main pool. There is an indoor pool, gym, sauna & steam rooms underneath the main pool area. Alot of people thought this was closed, but in fact you had to simply use your room key to open the door. The indoor pool was kept at a comfortable warm temperature which helped at this time of year, definitely worth a swim! The area itself is quite remote and unspoilt. There are shops/bars/beach approx 10mins walk away, but due to it be out of season we found alot of the bars were closed this time of year. The habour is beautiful and it certainly makes your holiday if you like looking at beautiful scenery. The restaurant offered good choices for breakfast, although the main evening meals consisted mainly of veal, pork or fish. Personally we would have liked to have seen more choice (beef, chicken, etc) this does not take away from the variety of salads and desserts offered, but if you don't like the 3 offered then you would struggle. The one thing that did disappoint us as a young couple visiting the hotel, for evening meals men are requested to wear long trousers. We found this a very old fashioned request. We think tailoured shorts for men should be acceptable, after all they are more comfortable in hot temperatures and do not take away from the smart dress code. Entertainment in the hotel was good, Macio was very friendly and knew how to get people enjoying their evening without irratating you if you did not wish to take part. As a personal preference we would have liked the hotel to offer more live entertainment such as bands, singers or comedians etc. In the week we stayed we only saw one live show consisting of spanish dancers. The hotel is only open between April & October, and we were visiting the last week of the season. Unfortunately we did incur some inconveinence because of this. Some of the facilities were closed approx 5 days before the hotel closed for business, for example the pool snack bar was closed for food and drink due to cleaning. This did not bother us, but we felt like a notice should have been displayed or we should have been informed that due to it being end of season, some the facilites would be unavailable. Maybe the hotel can think about informing quests of this a few days before its actioned, to prevent any inconveinence. Lastly all the staff at the hotel were very friendly and really couldnt' do enough for us. We do have to give special mention to the bar staff - especially John. He made us feel like part of the El Vistamar family and we made a good friend there. We even had the pleasure of meeting his parents (His father is the night watchman, Eloy. But has retired this year at the end of the season, we would like to wish him a very happy retirement). Over all we throughly enjoyed our stay, even though we have given some suggestions on how the hotel could become even better. Hopefully the hotel can appreciate our recommendations, and we definitely look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you for a lovely holiday. Sarah & Richard, South Wales, UK.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor for better views.

What can I add to what has already been said about the fantastic Ola El Vistamar Hotel in Porto Colom, Majorca.

This was our first visit to the hotel and it certainly won't be out last.

We booked the hotel based upon the reviews we read on here and the fact that it was for adults only.

The rooms are superb, cleaned daily. The cleaning staff, especially Ania were very thorough and nothing was too much trouble. We had a room over looking the pool and the bay.

The breakfast and evening meals were excellent. Always hot, plentifuly and masses of different things to choose from. The staff were always helpful,

The bar staff were all superb and willing to go the extra mile to make sure that part of the holiday went well. The guy responsible from entertainment deserves a special metion. He was always on the go and ensuring that everyone was having a good time.

The staff on reception were always cheery and on hand to give advise on any thing that you can think of.

The hotel closes today and all the staff deserve a break after their extraordinary efforts to ensure all of our holidays have been so enjoyable.

Keep up the good work all at Ole El Vistamar, we really appreciate it.

Every now and then you stumble upon a surprise El Vistamar was one and a wonderful one at that.

A last minute booking was made and wow did we get a surprise !!!

Let's start by saying its location in this still relatively un spoilt resort was ideal for anyone wanting to relax in beautiful surroundings, but with everything close at hand if you wanted. The room is bright, clean & airy with its own balcony. The pool is heaven (if you're brave at this time of year!) the jacuzzi pool indoors & other facilities all good to say the least.

We went Half board - The restaurant is excellent, breakfast to set you up for the day & dinner choices to suit every palette & plentiful. No complaints there at all, except for we left heavier than when we arrived & may have to pay excess baggage on ourselves!

However, the main asset of this hotel is by far the staff, who are all good, however special mentions for, Francesca on reception who could not have been more helpful, the waiting staff in the restaurant all very pleasant & again could not do enough, the chefs for serving up quality food BUT a big shout out for the bar staff............... All absolutely wonderful particularly John (even though he's an Aussie in disguise!) Joha & Juan who made everyone so welcome & looked after all guests so well making everyone feel part of the El Vistamar family. Also Macio the entertainments manager, who kept us dancing all week & put up with john's puppets & castenettes!

Any hotel's biggest assets are it's staff & these are all a credit to the hotel & make the whole holiday experience one to remember.

Would we come back? Try & stop us (although as party people we may be stopped at the airport!)

Party John & Angie

Room Tip: Front rooms have a view of the beautiful harbour & bay - & have fun, you're on holiday!

Just arrived home, yesterday, after our fourth stay at the Ole El Vistamar. There appears to be a new manager in place and I am pleased to comment that standards have not slipped and have in many ways improved from the previous high level. The hotel owes much of its success to the staff, the majority having served many years and know their role with almost military standards. We were very kindly upgraded to one of the Elite Club suites on arrival, which was most appreciated. The hotel had been externally painted this year and looks much improved. Although we stayed during the last two weeks of the season, all facilities were available. The quality of the food in the restaurant was extremely good and mention goes to the hardworking kitchen and waiting staff who replenished the food trays and prepared the tables. The bar prices are very reasonable for a 4 star hotel and the value and quality of the meals offered at the lunchtime pool bar are exceptional. Very nice conversation with the night duty manager on checkout. My wife and I would like to wish him well on his retirement. Many thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, once again and see you next year.

Just come back from a lovely relaxing holiday. I agree with most of the comments on here , the hotel was lovely ,spotlessly clean, the hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent with plenty of choice , the restaurant area was very clean and well managed we never found any problems with seating. The pool area had plenty of sun beds and a snack bar with music playing in the background, the pool was great if a little cold at first. There is also crazy golf and tennis. The evening entertainment was good fun. Our room was on the fourth floor with lovely views and plenty of sun. The only downside was a lot of the hotel information book was written in German or Spanish and not English. The only English channels on TV were news channels ,a radio or music channel would be good just for background music when getting ready. Overall a lovely relaxing place to stay we will definitely come back. At this time of year it is the end of the season so a lot of the bars and restaurants were closed but we still found plenty to do, the beach is not far but if you go for a walk along the harbour towards the lighthouse there is a sandy secluded beach. Be prepared for the journey from and to the airport it took over 2 hours so drinks and snacks needed. Overall a great holiday can't wait to come back :)

We do appreciate very much your comments, specially the one about the lack of information in English, which we should improve. Thank you and we hope to see you soon.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks in September.A friend joined us for the first week. We were pleased to find that the hotel was as good as on our previous visit over 10 years ago. We were also pleased that Porto Colom was still a quiet pleasant place. Main points to mention
*friendly welcoming staff especially Maria on reception
*Everywhere was spotless - indoors and outdoors
*Never a problem finding a sun lounger because everyone was so relaxed and not covering them with towels. Brilliant idea of the hotel not to open the gates to the pool until 9,00am. It stopped the madness found in other hotels of people getting up early to reserve a bed.
*Very good food with an excellent choice. Cooked breakfast , cereals, pastries, meats cheeses, fruits etc etc etc. At dinner it was calm and orderly with very attentive staff. The restaurant manager Paco? was so courteous and helpful and quietly ensured that the dress code of long trousers was adhered to. The food choice was excellent at dinner - soup, various breads, around 20 different salad bowls, pasta, a choice of meat and fish, a variety of vegetables and potatoes, a fab tapas night, mallorcan specialities, around 10 different deserts plus ice cream fruit cheese and biscuits. Most guests appreciated the food and the quality. Don't take any notice of the moaners.
*The bar by the pool had a good lunchtime menu and the staff were very good indeed.
*Marcio the entertainments man was excellent. Friendly and fun. Thanks for the table tennis from Stewart. He's still number one!!!
*Would suggest that an iron is available either in the room or to borrow from housekeeping.
*Would suggest a variety of games for guests to borrow eg scrabble, backgammon etc. Some hotels have this facility, especially in quiet places. There was a nice room with game tables but no games.
*Enjoyed the evening entertainment. It was low key but pleasant and stopped at 11.00pm. Pleased with that.
We will return.

just returned from 10 days at el vistamar.would not have booked if i had known indoor pool and fitness suite were not open.E mailed hotel to request high floor unfortunately given 1st floor room immediately above entertainment area.views from some rooms very good but this was worst view immaginable.. definitely not what you go on holiday for
the hotel is very clean and the staff are really nice and friendly nothing is too much trouble so full marks there
the dining room is on three levels obviously first level fills up first and if you are not great on your feet it can be a bit precarious walking upstairs with plates of food.good variety of salads ,desserts, and fruit."hot" food left a lot to be desired ,NO hot plates and hot food was cold or luke warm. especially breakfast . during our stay we saw 4 professional acts .they were very good .other nights quizzes and dancing be aware loud music still going after midnight .on the whole a good 3 star. Porto Colom is very quiet and most people I spoke to said too quiet.everyone seems to have a dog and they do not clean up after them so be careful where you tread.

First, thank you for your review. You are not the first one to point out that the indoor pool and the gym where not open, when indeed they were. We need to improve the signalling.

To access the gym and some other services, you need your room card.
