“Excellent location, Adults Only All Inclusive”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

This adult only, all inclusive hotel is just the absolute perfect place to take that holiday you have been longing for. Yes no kids, heaven, and that was just the beginning. Just a short walk through a pinewood is the most stunning beach that is as good as any on the Caribbean. The hotel itself, only 4 floor high is one of the best that we have been to and is so friendly you even help yourself to bottles of wine or beer in the dining room. Meals are good with plenty Plenty of outdoor space and no fighting for sunbeds. All staff are great and very helpful. Entertainment 10 out of 10, we were there 11 nights and saw 6 live acts, all top quality and very entertaining. All other entertainment was provided by Maria & James, a great team with loads of energy and enthusiasm making everyone feel special. Please don't be put off if you read the odd negative review, to be honest I'll be surprised if there is any. This is a great hotel in a good location and we highly recommend it. We will definitely be booking up again sometime in the future.

An all inclusive, adults only hotel near a beautiful beach. What's not to like? We really enjoyed our stay at the Platja D'Or hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotlessly clean. We had a quiet room on the sea side of the hotel and could just glimpse the sea through the pine trees. We walked across to the beach through the few trees and were amazed at what a lovely bay it was. Meals were the usual buffet style but the choice was reasonable and staff were always there to replenlish foods throughout the mealtime.
The rooms were a good size and were kept very clean and linen seemed to be changed frequently. I think they could do with a bit of a refurbishment but nothing urgent.
We took local buses into Old Alcudia and the Sunday market and also to Puerto Pollensa on days when it was overcast. Fares were good but experience could be a bit hairy as you were packed on like sardines. Just thought of it as a bit of local colour.
Entertainment was a bit patchy. There were a couple of good 'tribute act' nights but alternate nights were taken up with old fashioned game shows. These did seem to go down well with some folk. We weren't bothered as we just had a walk out to local bars instead. Might be worth mentioning that in the bar lounge, they had a large screen which was showing football and Formula 1 from Sky Sports. Kept my husband happy.
You could usually find somewhere round the pool and it was blessedly free from background music. Pool itself looked beautiful but was freezing and we saw very few people take a dip. Don't know what they can do about that. Heating it would probably be very costly.
Many guests were in the older age bracket but no less fun for that. Lots of people returned many times to the hotel so that must say something when there are so many other places to go. We sat for lunch one day with a 'young' man, about 40, who said it was the only hotel he and his wife had ever returned to. I'd be happy myself to return to the Platja D'Or.

Room Tip: 3rd and 4th floor room on sea side are quiet but don't expect a good view of sea as the pine tre...

I stayed here for 10 nights with my boyfriend. It was our first holiday abroad so we were looking forward to it. The hotel it self is very clean and a nice modern room. It is just by the beach and by a few shops. You can walk up the road for 20 mins to the main strip so it is not noisy on the night. We were both 21 at the time and yes were one of few young couples but I did not mind that at all. It was a nice change not to have children screaming by you.
The bar staff are all lovely and will do anything to help you.
Only thing to have let us down was the food as I lived off chips the whole time as I am picky but that is my fault as I don't enjoy much fish and meat lol.

Our 6th stay at this hotel was as enjoyable as all the previous stays here. This hotel is just the best in Alcudia. Staff are great and nothing a trouble. Food, bar and cleanliness are second to none. The entertainment team Maria and James are just the best I have seen at this hotel and visiting artists are just fantastic to see. Will be coming back here time after time.

Well we were looking forward to our first "adult only" holiday in Majorca having had a fantastic holiday in October last year at Sa Coma further down the coast also with First Choice.
Sadly disappointed. Our room was at the end of a long dark narrow corridor, the room itself was also dark, dank and small. Dark wood fittings, khaki "hopsack" bedcovers on the twin beds, overall dated and unattractive.
The view from the room was of the building site almost opposite where workmen were coming and going even though we found out later that this was illegal in the Summer, (the pneumatic drill at 8:15 a.m next morning did not help).
The carpet was stained, the pillows cases also were not exactly pristine. Old fashioned CRT portable television with 2 channels, not that we would want to stay in this room any longer than necessary. We went down to lunch, again not what we were expecting. Limited buffet choice, some congealed fish and fried or roast chicken, reasonable salad choice though. The evening meal was better with a bit more choice. The drinks were of the help yourself variety, you could choose a bottle of wine if you wanted which was acceptable. We ventured to the pool area, it was apparent that this hotel only catered for Brits in the senior age group category, we had to find a table that wasn't downwind of the ciggie smoke.
The pool was adjacent to a very busy road, lorries and cars thundering up and down all day, not peaceful or relaxing at all. Poolside could do with a bit of a brush and tidy up too, looked tired and dated. Water was perishingly freezing.
The entertainment lounge separate to the rest of the hotel looked as if it was an unfinished building, bare slab concrete monolith, very unattractive on the outside. The "entertainment" team, an English lady in her 50's and her male colleague in his 20's did their best to jolly people up, but the evenings entertainment of "guess the pubsign" wasn't really our thing, although the others seem to enjoy it. The next morning's "armchair aerobics" by the pool didn't do it for us either.
Our rep Lucy did a fantastic job in trying to sort out our discontent with the room. She arranged for the hotel to have the room cleaned and it was inspected by the "Director of Cleaning". We went back to check but even though they had had a go at cleaning the carpet, it was still stained, but the pillow cases had been changed. Lucy asked the receptionist if we could change rooms to a sunnier poolside one, but this was flatly refused even though the hotel had 2 floors empty. It was then that we knew that we needed to change hotels.
Lucy sorted out one one the road the "Contesa de Bahia" which I'll review later, but it cost me an extra £240.
On the plus side, the staff at the Platja D'or are friendly, the entertaiment duo try very hard to "entertain". The beach side location is very good but there isn't much else in the area apart from the usual tawdry beach shops. The old town of Alcudia is a good bus ride away which has lovely Moorish architecture.
Our issue is is that Thomsons rate this hotel with 4T rating whilst the Spanish only rate it 3*, this we feel is misleading and we would like to progress this further.
OK there are no kids here which is what we wanted, but in the end the hotel that we moved to was a family one with hundreds of children but we had a much better time.
Lucy the rep, take a bow, credit to First Choice/Thomsons/Tui as is her coleague Amy who we met at the Condesa. These girls work fantastically hard and nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: Choose from building site side and you might ctach a glimpse of the sea between the trees) but bewar...

Just returned from a week at the Platja d'Or May 2013, we stayed there last year too at the same time of year. It was lovely to see many of the same friendly faces of the staff. This shows it must be a happy place to work. We had a wonderful week and we shall return.

Room Tip: We liked the front of the hotel over looking the sea.
