“Not a very good holiday”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Firstly I cannot understand why people have given this hotel good reviews. Our experience wasn't a good one staying here. The hotel really need to change the menu in the restuarant - we found the food very very disappointing indeed. I wouldn't have given the food they were serving to animals let alone humans. We are not a fussy family - but we do have standards. Also the staff need to go a customer service course - they have no people skills apart from the young lady stood at the entrance to the restuarant - she always had a smile on her face.

The rooms were very very small - we didn't expect to have such a small room - we even had to share the bedroom with my partners daughter. Usually we have stayed in a room which is divided off from the other sleeping quarter. The rooms really need updating - and should only be single rooms not for a family. The bathroom was very small but wasn't a big problem as you don't spend that much time in there anyway. We had to ask to be moved from the room we were allocated as it was so noisy late at night. The room we were moved to on the other side was just as bad really. I feel bad for giving this hotel such a poor review but really I thought it would be useful for people to read before they book. We ended up eating out at other restuarants because we couldnt face the hotel one. There was a small fridge in the room which was handy to keep drinks cool and the airconditioning did work quite well. They are the only things I could say was good really. We did get clean bedding and towels every day - we didn't have a problem with that. We hired a kettle for 8 euros for the week.

There were enterainment on an evening - Elvis act, Whitney Houston, Robbie Williams just to name a few - they were all not very good.

The pools aren't as big as they look in the photos - they are alot smaller. We never saw anyone cleaning around the pool area at all. There is a large tree that drops some sort of berries - they made it look very messy and weren't cleaned up all the time we were there.

This review reflects only on the performance at the poolside restaurant. We were a party of 40 people who had reserved tables at 20:30 to eat from the buffet as well as the a la carte menu. We were seated quickly but the staff were slow (not enough staff?) in taking our drink orders which meant that we were unable to order food/go to the buffet right from the start. Arriving at the buffet at about 21:00 we noticed that it was not filled up so a few dishes were not available. That is not acceptable. However, the big problem arose when we went to refill our plates 20 minutes later and noticed that they were removing the buffet. When pointing to the staff that we had not had time yet to eat we were told that the buffet closes at 21:30. I am fully aware of the problem of keeping a buffet open all night but when the staff takes table reservations at 20:30 and does not inform the guests that there will be no food available it kind of makes the guests angry. By the way, the people that ordered the a la carte got their food an hour later. Why? Because they got left overs from the buffet... Bad choice to go here for dinner.

Overall a good value for money hotel, the rooms are a bit tired as many have said however we were on the 5th (top) floor and had a good view over the lake.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was basic but quite edible.
Evening entertainment was varied but not the best and music doesn't stop until midnight so if your room faces the pool you won't be sleeping early.
The pool was nice and cleaned daily, not huge but big enough with a kiddies pool, however you have to be up early to get a sun bed. They also have a sun deck with a jacuzzi and sauna.
I would definitely recommend Sol de Alcudia for a value for money holiday.

Room Tip: Nice views from the 5th (top) floor facing towards pool area if you don't sleep before midnight

Yes, the street below is noisy but the balcony window was almost soundproof so I slept well. Balconies are isolated from one another so we didn't catch a glimpse of our neighbours.
Our room was equipped with bath tube and shower, WC and bidet, hair dryer, air condition, fridge, TV set, but the signal of English programmes was hazy and unwatchable.

First we were given only one RFID card (room key) for both guests, but you can get another one if you ask for it.
Breakfast is served from 8 till 10:30 am, dinners from 20:30 till 21:30 but the hotel stuff willingly rescheduled our dinner time to 19:00 - 20:15. Guests are expected to order and pay drinks for dinner. All the hotel stuff is very nice and helpfull.

Room Tip: The higher floor, the less noise and insects from the street.

My boyfriend and I , both 22, stayed for a week at Hotel JS Sol de Alcudia. Really happy with the place we must say. The rooms are a bit tired as many have said and the balcony view was less than inspiring but nevertheless they were very clean, comfortable and did the trick. No double bed but two singles but we didn't mind to much we expected it. Rooms could do with updating to catch up with the rest of the hotel. Small fridge and no kitchenette if you want to prepare your own food. Balcony a nice size. A little rack to dry things on the balcony - I think the higher rooms at the front of the hotel may have some kind of a sea view but have to pay extra.

There was some noise outside from surrounding bars and hotels in the night - to be expected in the kind of area. Convenient location close to the beach and various amenities. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful cannot complain at all. The breakfast staff were good, reception excellent and bar stuff too.

The pool was lovely, not huge but you weren't crammed like sardines, enough space. The trees and plants made it private enough from the tacky hotel next door, very relaxing area. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols. We sampled the 1st floor sundeck too - jacuzzi and sauna were lovely! Nice if you fancied a bit more space, but not a huge amount of sunbeds up there.

Bar food had a nice selection and OK prices. Bar area was very nice and newly refurbished, so was the poolside bar area, nice and modern. There was entertainment every night too - good if you like that sort of thing but it wasn't to our taste. If you're expecting entertainment for your kids in the day there is none - but the pool is fab with a kids pool at one end and the main pool has a shallower end too. Along with the pool there is a small children's play area (looked quite small though), pool table and table tennis.

The buffet breakfast had plenty of choice to suit everybody's pallet and was of good quality. Good serving hours too from 8.30am to 10.30am and we could stroll down 10mins before it closed and there was still plenty there.

I would definitely recommend Sol de Alcudia to anyone wanting a base in Puerto Alcudia for a week, and even if you wanted to spend a bit more time in the hotel itself. My bf and I spent one full day by the pool and most nights in the bar and were very happy, but I could imagine we would've been happy to spend more time there.

Definitely deserves its 3 stars. Thankyou for a very lovely stay :)

Room Tip: Expect some noise if you're in the front of the hotel, and entertainment starts at 10.30pm so if...

We stayed at the JS Sol Alcudia 20th August 2011 for 2 weeks. Check in was quick and efficient, staff were very friendly. The reception area was clean and spacious. When shown our room we got a bit of a shock as it was really really small. There was just about enough room to walk around the beds. We were told there would be a double bed in the room, as it was a request options, but it was two singles. We went back down to reception to ask about changing rooms, as it was not great and they informed us that all rooms were the same, so we had to make do. On the plus side the matresses were memory foam and extreemly comfortable. There was a fridge and TV in the room, ut only German & Spanish speaking channels the usual when you are away.
The pool area was a good size and very clean. Bar food was available throughout the day but was a little on the pricy side for pool side food.
The beach, restaurants and bars were only 5 mins walk away. With an ATM 2 mins walk away. So location wise it was good. The restaurant/bar next door, ran Karaoke every night and have avery good deals on breakfast and lunch. The bus was about 5 mins walk away too and serviced the Old town and also the route to Palma.
I liked Alcudia, but I wouldnt stay in this hotel again, simply becasue the rooms are way too small to get any comfort for a 2 weeks break.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room over looking the pool, they were quiet and gt the evening sun.

We have just returned from a very pleasant holiday at J S Sol Alcudia hotel (not the aparthotel next door!).
The hotel staff from Reception to Bar are extremely helpful and friendly and go out of their way to assist. Sebastian and his team in the bar were great and also the Dining Room staff. We had no problems with the food and enjoyed all of it.
The foyer, dining room and bar (photo's of bar do not do it justice) have all been refurbished and are really nice and modern. Yes the rooms are looking tired and the furniture a little old but the facilities in them are good. Each year when the hotel closes for the winter some renovation work takes place. This year it's the turn of the rooms or bathrooms. The room and bathroom doors have already been done. SO IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER! .Poolside rooms are better because of a bar called The Peach Pitt, full of inconsiderate Britts
Hopefully, we will be returning next year!

Room Tip: Choose a poolside room if you can.
