“Lovely Hotel Shame about the location.”
Reviewed 28 October 2009

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the portd'alcudia hotel for two weeks on the 19th September. We flew with Thoas Cook, and the rep was a total div, didn't put the times when we was expected to get the coach on returning, didnt tell us about the area and just wanted to sell as much trips as she could.

I was quite worried about what to expect on this holiday as I read some bad reviews. But I will give you the real details of what to expect in this review.

When arriving I thought we stopped of in some dirty run downshack town, with this lovely hotel "plonked" in the middle. We was greeted with a lovely reception man who checked us in with ease and showed us where to go details ect. The lobby is beautiful, its all marbled thoughout, but be careful as it is very slippery even when you are dry.

The halls leading to our room was all carpeted and added that little extra class. The room was ok for a 3* hotel. There was two single beds that was pushed together, and not very comfortable, we had to ask for extra pillows, another 8 in fact as they was so thin. The rooms have air con which was nice, but it rainned the majority of the time we was there, so we didn't use it much. Bathroom was lovely just what you need and the kitchenett was ok, very basic. BEWARE if you have the room that is not facing the pool but the most horrid view of run down bars and a superstore, most nights the two remaining bars that are open like to have a compition with who could play the loudest music till 6 in the morning. Very annoying to say the least. When I asked if we could change rooms the lady at the desk (you will know her as soon as you see her, stuck up and seems to have a chip on her should alllll the time) she simply said NO as these was for the ALL INCLUSIVE guests, so we was stuck there. The rooms are cleaned everyday except from Sunday and Thusday. They whole hotel is very clean.

The pool is beautiful, when we did get to use it. The pool bar can be very expensive, and we never had troubles getting a bed. There is a majority of German, Norwgian and Swedish guests at this hotel, and they all seem to have the all inclusive package. as from 1pm the whole pool goes dead as it was their lunchtime, and the only people round or in the pool was myself and my partner and a english family of 4.

The animation team are really good, they are mainly there for the other guests but wanted to make sure everyone was involved. Really great with children.
The hotel also has a indoor pool with Jacuzzi, sauna and gym, really good when the weather is bad.

Now onto the location. I couldn't belive my eyes when we looked around on our first day. There was no bars or resturants on the beach just run down villas, with really noisy dogs. There was this dark green smelly river that went straight into the sea and made me feel ill when we carried on walking past to see the local through all sorts in it. The whole place is surrounded by the green pond like things that nearly everyone we talked to said they can't wait till they go home to get away from the smell. And with the stench came the mozzys, take plenty of spray as it is very expensive out there. Becareful if you have babies or small chrildren the floors are falling apart with tiles piled up and curbs crumbling. Also walking to the main area it is on a busy road and the spainish don't slow down so keep an eye on the little ones.

We did finally find some bars and resturants but they are all down back allys and small roads. We had some really lovely food, and would recommend olas amazing steak. If you want really good deals for drinks make sure you check out the oxygen bar, its but and owned by a couple from England and they do great cocktails at 2.75euros.

All in all it was a ok holiday, but we will not be returning. The hotel was great but it's such a shame about its location. Some people might think differently.

Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know.

My husband and I stayed at the Port D’Alcudia on a self-catering basis from the 5th to 19th September. It’s the first time we’ve been to Majorca and we had a really good time (despite the storms in the second week!)

The location of the hotel is great, just off the main road, 5 minutes direct walk to the beach and 10-15 minutes walk to the port or the bar strip, depending where you eat. After reading previous reviews we managed to get a room with a pool view, which was quiet and had a much better view too, over mountains and palm trees and a circular lake behind the hotel which connects to the sea and network of canals around the resort.

The size and décor of the apartments was good, lots of cupboard space and a large balcony, and air conditioning included. The pool area was really nice, not crowded at this time of year and the pool slopes from very shallow at each end to about 1.7m in the middle. We also used the indoor pool and jacuzzi (not heated) and the sauna quite a bit.

Unfortunately there were a few bad points about the hotel:

The room had the usual kitchen equipment but no oven, and if you wanted a microwave you had to hire it for an extra fee per day, which we found unusual. We didn’t bother but it does limit what you can cook.

We came back to find ants in our room one day, despite being on the 5th floor, and we were given a can of anti-insect spray but other than that there’s no repellent.

During one of the thunderstorms in the second week, rain water started dripping through the ceiling by the patio door in the bedroom. We put a pan under it and reported it to the daytime reception staff, but no one ever came to look and we were left to mop the water up ourselves. It was obviously an old problem as there was existing water damage. Fortunately it stopped after an hour or so, didn’t occur again and we were in the room when it started. When we complained about it 4 hours later to the original staff member, he shrugged and said he’d written it in a book, and we tried to speak to the manager but he wasn’t available as he owned other hotels.

Despite this we would recommend the hotel if you get a pool view room and high floor.

The SPAR across the road is handy but if you can get to the big MERCADONA supermarket in the port the range of food and prices are better, a lot like at home.

We found meals out more expensive than usual due to the poor GBP-Euro exchange rate, but would recommend Champions in the bar strip area for great pub food, reasonable prices and good service. They did pints of cocktail for 5 Euros too! Also don’t miss the crepe stand next to the canal bridge in the bar strip area, they’re delicious and the man making them is really entertaining! For a curry, we recommend the Kashmir Indian restaurant down a side street in the port, the food was lovely. Watch out if you use the Burger King, they super-size the meals without asking and although they give you the difference back if you complain it’s very off-putting.

The Alcudia area is beautiful and clean, and a good base to get around the island from. The beach is miles long with soft sand and shallow, crystal clear water. Again not too crowded at this time of year. Alcudia old town is worth visiting too. The local 352 bus runs everywhere regularly although it was always too full to let people on at the local stop, so we usually walked to the port or old town, where the bus had emptied a bit if you then wanted to go out of the resort. We did catch the 351 bus to Palma for the day, it ran every hour there and back and cost 10.60 Euros each return and took about an hour each way. Palma is busy but beautiful too.

We have just returned from two weeks holiday in Alcudia. The hotel facilities, staff, rooms were brilliant, the problem was the studios face the road and TWO disco's which did'nt start until midnight and went on sometimes until six in the morning. ( 4 nights out of seven).
It was'nt so much the music as the drunken revellers screaming and shouting.
On speaking to first the hotel staff (who said they keep ringing the police)! and then to our Rep who did as much as she could, we were told it is in the brochure so there was nothing they could do unless we paid extra (it said in the brochure some noise MAY be experienced.
So BEWARE before you book this hotel make sure you can get a pool side room

A friend and I (both 18) and my parents just got back from 2 weeks at the Port d'Alcudia and we absolutely loved it! The rooms are spacious and have a t.v although the cannels are pretty limited (we didn't spend much time watching it anyway!), as well as air-conditioning, a bathroom with a bath and shower, and a large balcony. The hotel now has a gym, small indoor pool with a jacuzzi at one end and a sauna which are not advertised in brochures. There is also a games area, two pool tables, two table tennis tables and a dart board as well as tennis/ volleyball courts.
The staff are all very friendly, we spent a lot of time with the entertainment staff who were brilliant with the younger ones in the daytime and always invited the older ones out at night if they were going to a disco. The bar staff are also very good and would spend time talking to everyone and joking with the guests. José and Pau were particularly funny, throwing beer mats and taking the mess out of us as they went past.
There was an entertainment programme on every day but sunday, including a mini-club, midi - club, teens club and adults activities such as water polo, aqua-aerobics, shooting and darts. In the evenings there was a mini-disco and a show, sometimes good, sometimes average.
The reviews say that there is a battle for sunloungers although we found that the battle was for umbrellas... people did go out quite early to get them... but if you can't beat em, join em!! The hotel was mainly occupied by German people but we have never found this a problem as they are very friendly and we often find that we can still communicate with them. There were several nationalities staying at the hotel, we had some friends from Sweden. The staff all speak good english so there is rarely a problem in translation.
We were self catering so didn't eat in the restaurant although we did find that a lot of the restaurants in Alcudia were quite expensive. The nightlife in Alcudia isn't brilliant but we found some good clubs which get packed out as the night goes on and play good music.
The beach is only a few minutes walk away and was always clean, the sea is quite shallow and safe so the children can play happily in it. The pool at the hotel was also very childsafe.
This was our third visit to the Port d'Alcudia and my tenth visit to Alcudia, and we have already started planning another trip there either this year or next!

Family of 3 - (with Teenager of 16)
This was the 2nd time we have stopped at the Port D'Alcudia hotel in as many years. We also came last year. The high standards we experienced in 2008 were maintained this year again. Extremely friendly staff, efficient maid service, excellent daily and night time entertainments, good food etc etc.
The hotel is clean and tidy. Fully air conditioned. Superb location near to the beach, main strip and local shops. All within 5/10 mins walk.
There is also no hassle for sunbeds as there are plenty to go around. We got to pool side around 14.30 one day and we still got 3 sunbeds.
Bars you should frequent in the area are Woodys where you can play bingo and enjoy good food. Say hello to Mel, Ben and co for us. The Sports Bar on the corner near the bridge..live sports showing outdoors and indoors on plasma screens and the Peach Pit for karaoke all night until 03.30am.
The beach is amazing. Gently shelving and ideal for families with young children as the sea remains shallow for a good 50 yards out. Beach sun beds are 4.50 euros each for the full day.
Only down side is the constant lucky lucky men trying to sell hats and sunglasses and the hair braiding women who constantly pester you as you sit in bars or walk down the streets. Just wave them away and they usually walk on.
In summary...absolutely fab resort, fab hotel and fab holiday again....will be there again in 5 weeks....set them up Mel.....and crank up the karaoke....

Have stayed in this hotel for the last couple of years and would definitely recommend it. The staff are extremely friendly and are very helpful, apartments are spacious with large balcony and air conditioning. . Rooms are cleaned a couple of times a week and are spotless. The hotel is in an ideal location close to both the port and the beach. There are numerous bars and restaurants nearby and the main street is only about a 10 minute walk. There is also a supermarket right outside the hotel that sells a wide seletion of products and the supermarket were the locals would shop is only about a 5 minute walk away and usually cheaper. Have never eaten in hotel restaurant as have always gone self-catering and like to try different places every night but the pool bar is ideal for a quick snack. Pool is great and there is also a indoor pool sauna and jacuzzi aswell. There is also a waterpark nearby aswell as many tours you can book through a number of companies would defo recommend a trip to see the pirate show great night out for all the family, the crazy golf is also good. All in all a great hotel that i would definitely recommend.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one week from 5th on May, the hotel only opened on the 1st so it was still very quite! I dont think there was more than 30 people, was lovely and quite but a bit too quite!

We were a bit worry as we got dropped off late at night round the corner from hotel and the only 2 ppl going there! Every other stop had groups getting off, but we were very plesently suprised!

The pool was amazing and most days there was only a couple of other people there!

The rooms were fine, they had everything we could need for self catering we ate out everyday so didnt use kitchen area much!

I would not recomend eating in hotel, not much chioce and doesnt look very nice! we went in resturant and walked straight back out!

We found lots of nice places to eat around the hotel and lots of nice places for a drink.
The spar was straight across the road so very handy.

The hotel itself was very clean and staff we very helpfull. The entertanment was VERY POOR, but cant expect much when there are very little ppl staying. The entertanment staff were good just not enough ppl!

At night we did stay in for entertanment a couple of times but was just too bad! We went to hotel across the road at night which was good!

The beach was lovey and could walk there in bout 10 mins!

We went to the water park one day but was a waste of money!

Our rep was a waste of time, she couldnt answer any questions we had.

I would recommeded this hotel, not sure what its like in high season, i dont think i would go in high season.

I would defo go back, we were thinking of going again next year, the only other thing i would say is that its only 25% of Brittish ppl that stay in this hotel but there are plenty of brittish places to eat and drink :)
