“Not the Ritz, but...”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

Myself and my wife (both 50 yrs old) stayed here in early sept 2013. We were In Lago II, 4th floor, overlooking the road. We booked with booking.com for about €640 for 9 nights.
Check In was very easy and smooth. Hired a safe in the room (about €25). 1 bed apt was very clean and spacious. Kitchenette was a bit dated and short of utensils. However, it was adequate for us, and if we wanted more utensils I'm sure they would have been supplied promptly. Apt overlooked the road, and could get a little bit noisy at night. However, this was not a problem for us.
We did not eat or drink at the hotel, and only used the pool once. There were adequate sun beds around the pool, and signs saying not to reserve the beds. The pool is a bit on the small side for the size of the hotel, but again this was not a problem when we stayed there.
The location is excellent. Public transport is only 100 meters away, and is very reliable and reasonable, and is worth using to visit other resorts nearby.
The beach is also very good, and there are also numerous excellent restaurants nearby to suit all tastes and pockets.
The clientele in the hotel was very nice, as were the staff.
Overall, I would have no problem recommending this hotel. It was what we expected and we were not dissatisfied with anything. You get what you pay for.
We had a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: 1 bed apt, on floor 4 or 5 in lago 2 overlooking the pool would probably be the best for view and fo...

We arrived late at night so we were obviously not aware of the whole situation the first thing that hit us was the strong damp smell in the bathroom and clearly where the damp had been wiped away, the pool was exceptionally small , so the photos posted totalley misleading, we were led to believe there was in house entertainment this wasnt the case,, the room was directly above 3 bar/restuarnants and the constant noise , and guitar playing at night drove us mad, we had several things go missing from the room even those these were small, we ended up having to carry important things with us didnt dare leave money or credit cards in the room, the staff english was very limited, we expected someone to have at least moderate english so that we could comincate when asking a question they just directed us to the tour guide book, which didnt give all the information we required, the food from the bar when available was below standard, and the plates were not clean, we did enjoy our hoilday in general but would certainly not book this hotel again.

We were reading reviews about this hotel and were unsure when reading one or two. We also read reviews about transport to the hotel. However My husband and I decided to take the last room on the two weeks from 5th to 19th September and from the moment we arrived we were delighted with the hotel. We asked for a room with a view and we were given that. It was spotless and a beautiful balcony. Room was cleaned daily with new towels each day. Staff greeted us daily in a very frendly way and were more than helpful to us. It was extremely clean and very good value for money. Well done to all at El Lago.

The apartment was basic with 2 cooking rings in the kitchen and a fridge which was a bit ancient but it worked well and no grill or kettle but we took our own so it was fine, the beds were a bit hard and uncomfortable but that was the only down side, the air conditioning is included in the price its ok for free but is not brilliant and you can hire the in-room safety deposit box for 20 euros a week, we were lucky as we had a room overlooking the pool at the end of the corridor so no-one was trooping past our door all the time ,though there was not any noise anyway, the balcony is narrow as said in previous reviews only room for a chair either side of the table there were only 2 of us so it wasn't a problem for us,there is a table and 4 chairs in the kitchen area though, the rooms were cleaned very well by the maids everyday except wednesday, the sheets were changed every day as was the shower curtain which we were pleasently surprised with maybe it was because it was extremely hot the week we were there, the towels were changed everyday too and ample toilet rolls supplied(some places only give you one all week) the pool area was a reasonable size and kept very clean and the pool itself was lovely we had no problem getting a sunbed at any time of the day, there are only about 8 parasoles but one side of the pool is shaded until early afternoon if you wanted to sit in the shade, there is no entertainment at all at the hotel which is a shame really as they have a lovely lounge area with lots of tables and a stage, there is happy hour in the bar daily 4-5pm and the drinks are priced about the same as everywhere else, thats about the same as here now unless you drink the local beer, but they play the same cd (amy winehouse ) over and over again every single day, i like her but i was fed up hearing it by the end of the week, but there are plenty of places just 2 minutes walk from the hotel for people of all ages and lots for kids, and the lovely beach is just a five minute walk away too, we tried the chinese buffet next door to the hotel all you can eat for 6.95 euros and it was well worth it,for the first four days we were the only british people at the hotel as it was mainly german guests but it was not a problem as they were all pleasant and spoke to us and most had children which were very well behaved, the staff are all very nice and friendly too which is always a plus, cannot comment on the food as we were just self catering all in all a magic week with excellent weather

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view as some of the rooms overlook the road

the apartment was very clean with towel changes everyday, the kitchen area was very basic only two rings ,fridge and sink. kettels and toasters were available for hire at 10 euro with a 5 euro deposit each. the pool area is small but sun beds are always available.there were mainly german holiday makers there and that was fine. the entertainment was poor. the hotel itself was on a side street, but dont be put off as your close to everything, beach, supermarkets, resturants etc.there are two computers in the foyer with internet acess one euro for 15mins two euro for 30mins. if you go outside the internet cafe is one euro for 30 mins,if you got teenagers with you that makes a difference. yummy yummy english bar about 2min walk away has good food and entertainment. cheers bar is across the road, entertainment good, but really expensive to drink in there..alcudia is lovely but the transfer is a nightmare, our flight home was 11.20 in the morning, we were picked up at 06.30 and driven all through villages in the pollensa area pcking people up. never again. thats the only down side to that area in majorca. a taxi will take you direct to the airport at a cost of 70 euro,in my opion it would be money well spent if you want to visit that side of the island.the beach is also lovely and very safe for children, 10 euro for 2 beds and umberella.had a good time myself and my 15 year old daughter. next time we will be back to the other side of the island.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view.you may end up above a chinese resturant

Very basic holiday apartment with kitchenette. Quite run down. Kitchen had very little equipment, and of a very cheap type. Balcony very narrow, so it was not possible to have a table and eat outside. Internet was € 20 for a week.

Asked for and got room with poolview rather than streetview. Pool Nice and clean. Ample free parking just outside the door. Staff very friendly.

After reading the reviews on the internet i was very concerned about my stay at El Lago - Magic Hotels. However on arrival i was very pleasantly surprised.

The positives
Staff very friendly and helpful
Hotel very close to amenities and literally 5 minute walk from the beach and looks over a pleasant lake. With happy hour between 4-5 pm with buy one get one free on drinks.
Hotel room was adequate for young couple, with double bedroom and kitchen/ diner/ sitting room with TV, Kitchenette comes with fridge, hobs and cutlery and air con included with no extra cost .
Pool was very clean a little on the small side however still had plenty of room with around 50 sun loungers surrounding.
Alcudia its self is in a great location with miles and miles of sunny clean stunning scenery and beaches.

The Negatives
The hotel had no real entertainment of nightlife to speak of.
Had to pay extra for a kettle or toaster which is 10 euros a week.
Tv was mainly Spanish with only children’s CBBC, BBC 1 until 5 pm when it would shut off and sky news.
The main drawback I would say of the apartment is that for British tourists it was a mainly Spanish and German hotel, with all but one other couple being not from Brittan which wasn’t a negative as such however if you had young kids or teenagers they would not be able to make friends as in a typically English hotel.

Overall we had an amazing holiday and enjoyed our stay very much as El Lago hotel, I would suggest definitely asking for pool view or staying in the sister apartment Don Juan which has a view of the lake and the pool with some sun loungers on the balconies! Alcudia is packed with things to do and would definitely recommend and come back in the future we loved Mallorca and found everyone to be very helpful and friendly. Eating out can be rather expensive for the quality of food so therefore if your coming as a family I suggest either staying all inclusive or making lunches and breakfasts in the morning. Cheers bar just around the corner made a very good 3 euro English breakfast!

Get a car out and drive around the northern coast Coves De Arta are amazing! Found plenty of beautiful beaches and places to pull over and get beautiful shots.

The Formentor boat trip is very worthwhile, the formentor beach is rather expensive and you only sit for around 35-45 minutes at the beach anyway so bring your own food but the boat trip its self allows you to see the wildlife, beautiful coves and picturesque views of the mallorican coast. ( Bring goggles or snorkel and you get a chance to swim with the fish!)
