“Luxe, beautiful boutique hotel perfect for a 2-3 day break”
Reviewed 23 October 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights and was perfect for what we were looking for - a luxe, relaxing break for 2. Lunch of paella on the terrace was FANTASTIC accompanied with a great local white wine. Spent a day by their beautiful pool reading and sleeping. Dinner was good but not not quite good enough to have dinner there again on the second night - The local tonw Puigpunyent does not have much choice for a nice meal we drove 30mins to Portal Nous and dined at Flanigans on the hotels recommendations (a bit of a famous local). I'm glad we visited Portal Nous which is a nice lively town on the port - a nice change from the quiet Gran Hotel Son Net. Back to the hotel - all the staff were very friendly and helpful, and our room was great. The building and the grounds are stunning! Would love to go back one day.

I stayed at Gran hotel Sonnet in Puigpunyet, Mallorca for 4 nights. On the day of arrival , the gentleman at the reception desk informed us that since we had arrived early, we should wait until the room is ready and then he will give us a tour of the hotel. We never received that tour and this was the first let-down or in other words, lack in service. My overall complain is that I believe the staff at the hotel (despite being very pleasant and hospitable- I keep emphasizing on this great aspect) lacked a certain level of training and that was why they were not as diligent for a luxury 5* hotel. Since this is a small hotel, there is a limited number of staff who you see on a daily basis. At breakfast, only one male staff was very aware and looked after the customers with care, by offering them coffee and eggs (as it was not in the buffet and no one would otherwise know that the option was available. (lack in training).
Also, at dinner, we were not informed that the Paella option which was not on the menu, was available only if you ordered a day earlier.
My mother and I decided to use the 'spa' facilities by getting a facial each. The facials were a rip-off. Again, a very friendly lady who was doing them, but she did absolutely nothing apart from applying some products during an hour long facial, and we were charges something around 125Eur each! Clearly we were ready to pay that amount, but it is indeed a disappointment when you do not get the service that matches the price.
Another issue was that in our room, the cable did not work properly even for a single day of our stay (there is not much to do at this hotel but eat, read, watch tv and relax.... and I don't mind watching a bit of ENGLISH tv when I'm on holiday!). The German channels were plentiful, however the few English ones were either not working or did not have a sound. i have to say that despite all the beauty of the hotel, these let-downs are not acceptable. I've stayed at plenty of luxury hotels in the past, and I do know GOOD service when I see it.

There is one middle-aged and extremely friendly bar man who usually works by the pool or during the day at the cafe pool-side and he's a gem. He's loud, happy and full of energy and makes all the guests feel welcome and happy. Unfortunately do not remember his name...

All in all, the hotel can make little adjustments here and there to improve and get the hotel's quality of service to another level.

Room Tip: Ask where your room is located and what it is exactly that you're paying for. We were in a suite...

This is a really great hotel. The location is fantastic perched on a hill above the village a short drive from Palma, but a world away from it. The building and grounds are spectacular - the pool area is particularly impressive. The rooms are also as good as the public areas of the hotel - with great bathrooms. The hotel staff are friendly & extremely helpful. The hotel food is also really good - over our stay as well as breakfasts we had lunch & dinner at the hotel at least once. The breakfast selection is good & of a high quality. Will definitely return for a longer visit.

What can I say, Simply Amazing..
I have just returned from a week at the son net for a friends wedding, and it's really one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. From the moment you arrive the staff are there to welcome you and attend to your every need. 20 mins drive from Palma, you arrive in the sleepy town of Puigpunyent, it's delightful, you could be anywhere in southern france or the california napa valley, you decide, it's just magical. The hotel boasts a beautiful infinity pool with breathtaking views to the mountains and palma, The Estate itself is beautiful and the main building just wants you to sit down and enjoy a fine red wine or cocktail, a true rare hidden gem amoungst great hotels. The food is what you expect Spanish,Majorcian, and it doesn't dissappoint. Beef carpacio with Parmesan and truffle oil-or Peppers Padron. If you have the budget and the money, this will be a holiday, wedding, quick break, you will never forget, I cannot recommend this place enough, please go and see for yourself....

Room Tip: Every room is fantastic, but The gran suites are out of this world

Over the last 6-7 years we have visited the Son Net once or twice a year. This trip we were kindly upgraded to a suite regardless of which we would still have enjoyed our few days there massively.

You just arrive and start that slow gently sigh as you start to relax and feel very much at home .... mi casa es su casa.

The young staff are very friendly and enthusiastic, many of whom we recognise over a number of years - the true sign of a happy team. That enthusiasm and friendlienss runs from the girls at the front of house, the managers, chambermaids, waiters and waitresses and the real personality (Luis) who looks after everyone around the pool. All seem to have a love of the hotel which manifests itself in the really personal service received.

The bedrooms are splendid, so is the bar and so are the public rooms - but it is the view from the hotel which is spellbinding across and down an almost biblical and quiet valley with great mountain views - just perfect for "sundowners" on the patio. This is definitely on my "return when possible" list.

The Son Net is frequently referred to as the island’s true gem – and rightly so. Our family had stayed at the hotel for the second time in a row now and we can hardly wait to return here next year.

As much has already been said about the splendid location and scenery, I’d like to focus this review on the hotel itself but cannot omit though to add at least a few lines on the pittoresque view and the wonderful premises. Located on a hilltop surrounded by the magnificent mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Hotel features marvelous views from the nicely decorated rooms as well as the stunning pools and the restaurant areas. The gardens are lovely and well taken care of. We had the pleasure of occupying one of the rooms on the first floor which was tastefully furnished and offered a breathtaking wake-up view each morning on the village of Puigpunyent and the mountains.

That being said, I’d like to move on to the true strength of the hotel which is its staff.

What makes the difference between a very good hotel and an outstanding one are, of course, the persons who run and operate the place. In that very aspect, the Son Net definitely shines out. The hotel is managed by two highly seasoned and skilled executives who make sure that the stay of their guests is perfect in every single concern. Likewise, the two heads of F&B/restaurant managers are among the most impressive ones we so far have witnessed and accordingly guarantee an immaculate and highly pleasant culinary experience each day; from recommending perfect wines to perfectly supervising the whole service, the two managers excelled thoroughly.

What applies to management, front desk and F&B is also valid for the pool area and its great bartender/general contact person for any concerns related to this section of the hotel; every inquiry or need of us was superbly handled by the man in charge. We regrettably learned that he was a temporary replacement – we strongly hope to see him around next year though due to his wonderful way of treating the guests in his domain.

Here, though, one minor point to consider is that the pool can get a bit packed over the weekends with visitors, and among them especially families bringing their kids along;

While I hope that these lines provide you with a good overview about the immaculate strengths of the hotel’s management and its staff, I think what emphasizes Son Net’s unique quality the most is the fact that we saw a number of familiar faces upon our return to the hotel – with the immediate prospect of us becoming one of the Son Net’s regulars as well (and potentially the fact that this is the only review I ever wrote about one of the places I attended).

Summing all these thoughts up, we thank the whole Son Net team – most notably though of course GM Mr Bjoern Wild – for two wonderful weeks which were perfect in any aspect and are very much looking forward to our next stay in 2012.

MI

We travel to Majorca frequently but decided since this was the height of summer season to find a really peaceful location. We had dined at Son Net a couple of years ago and remembered the great vista as well as its convenience to Palma and the airport (about 25 minutes drive).

We were not disappointed. What makes this exceptional is the way the staff do go out of their way to make you welcome.

The pool has lots of options for sun and shade ... great tree with shade throughout the day.

We enjoyed the restaurant and also felt that the bar snacks available were a good alternative for a lighter evening meal.

The location is beautiful. Great hill walking nearby ... views over a beautiful valley.

At first, we were disappointed with our room (a superior). We had expected that there would be great vistas and instead it looked over a rather boring terrace. The door to this terrace had a big crack but this was temporarily repaired immediately by the front office manager and repaired completely the next day. But the room was functional and the overall services of the hotel so good that we felt these cancelled out that disappointment. But if you really want a great view ... be aware of this and check when you book. One small suggestion is that the "boring terrace" could be made more pleasant with a little attention to placement of plants etc.

Room Tip: looks like you are guaranteed a great view only with delux and above
