When we first decided to go to Mallorca, albeit 2 days in advance, we were completely bowled over and pleasantly surprised by the standard and the level of quality as well as the absolute friendliness and professionalism of all the staff on the quality of the food.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as accommodating. However the hotel made up for this.

We originally booked the trip, including flights, through Trip Adviser, however I would have no hesitation in booking direct with the hotel for when we next say. From the moment we arrived we were immediately felt welcome, even with my limited capacity to speak Spanish, even as much as I tried, we were very easily understood as virtually all members of staff were sufficiently conversant in English. Nothing was too much trouble to arrange/organise or accommodate by the members of staff.

We were fortunate enough to have a room upgrade, which allowed us an amazing view over the pool and down into the valley below. The room was very tastefully decorated, with a huge comfy bed!

We will be returning this year!

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the pool has an amazing view down into the valley below and if you're on th...

2nd Christmas at Son Net! Wonderful time to be at Gran Hotel Son Net with holiday decorations and tree lighting! My room had a small beautifully decorated tree with lights. This is an elegant hotel within a country manor built for the Bishop of Palma in 1672. The ceilings in my huge suite were 16-18 feet, with windows 10-11 feet in height, providing a view over the vineyards and pastures of the village of Puigpunyent. The bathroom could host a ping pong match without using the toilet, shower or tub area! Original wall paintings are preserved and framed within the renovated rooms providing a historical perspective adding to the tall antique windows and doors. The furniture and décor blends well with the stone, wrought iron and wood of this very large stone structure, providing a very inviting ambiance! A large pool surrounded by palm trees and private cabanas with an infinity edge overlooks the village. A large formal terrace above the pool provides access to the hotel and to a brilliant tree house, recently constructed for private dining, I am told. The main dining room is contained in the adjacent mill building, complete with donkey or horse powered grinding wheel. Service is excellent, and the staff very well trained. Son Net is a magical place to stay!

Beautifully placed in the lower part of the mountains of Mallorca the hotel is perched above the village in pleasant grounds, with pool, not heated in winter (how about a bubble over it in winter?)
Rooms are lovely, and vary, our top floor room was spacious well fitted and had an excellent bathroom, shower needs a thermostatic control, and non slip flooring throughout. At first we thought the lighting terrible but eventually found the dimmer switch beside the bed and all was well although a good reading light by the easy chairs would have been good. Wonderful chambermaid. Surprisingly TV stations very limited, BBC World News(dreadful) only, other hotels in Palma have full UK stations.
Breakfast: in the dining room a vast barn or on the terrace, not quite up to expectations, fruit salad was in very small individual bowls, it took 3 to make my usual portion, no local delights i.e. ensaimadas, my favourite pastry; fair selection of breads, croissants, coffee OK ask for a pot not a cup. Have had better buffet breakfasts..
We did not dine in the hotel, the Rose restaurant in the village below (walk down the drive) was very good and the wine much cheaper than the hotel, and the other village restaurant looked inviting also. Several bars and cafes in the village, including a hardware store and 2 supermarkets.
But this is a good base hotel easy journey into Palma, instructions for finding the hotel very good.
Did feel there could be somewhere more comfortable to sit during the winter months on the ground floor area, by the fire gets draughts from the doors onto the garden or one sits in reception, and the former area is very small.
But a good weekend overall.

Decided that The Mistress and Slave deserved a break, and discovered that the Son Net was open on Christmas Day. We intended merely to have a drink, but Nacho the barman was so friendly, expert, and professional, that this turned into…um…several. There being no way we could drive home, I enquired tentatively if they had any rooms available. They had: the owner's suite was unoccupied, so we took that. The wildly-attractive receptionist seemed unfazed by a request for 'a large room for three, with a huge bed', and showed us her choice with barely a giggle.
Good grief! If you only have one night in your life when you take a suite, do this. Dark wood decor and fittings; room for a party of any sort (possibly with the exception of anything involving balloons and clowns), this is the ideal setting for a remake of 'The Story of 'O''. A massive black jacuzzi, a dressing-room we renamed 'The Dexter Room', with a black marble body-sized table and closets large enough to imprison those guilty of misbehaviour, a large living room, a gigantic terrace, and so many bathrooms we could have done with Satnav to find our way about.
A bit dark in Winter for professional camerawork, but that's just being picky.
All in all, an unmitigated success in every way.

Except for dinner; the huge and impressive restaurant serves (in Winter) a rather depleted menu, and the tables are too large to encourage intimate conversation. It was, frankly, morgue- like in there. I'm sure it's jollier in Summer. Breakfast was a somewhat sad buffet, and I'm sure that, too, perks up in season. The staff did their best, and the Maitre and the Sommelier were exemplary.
There are splendid Warhol and Hockney prints on the walls, at least one Frank Stella, some oriental stuff which no doubt is gulpingly expensive, and the decor is idiosyncratic and somehow fitting to the atmosphere. The grounds are extensive, the pool humunguous, and it has…wait for it…a treehouse!
I'm definitely going to organize some Winter house parties there. It's an opportunity too good to waste.

Room Tip: No.30. Trust me!

Our stay at the Gran Hotel Son Net was one the most enjoyable experiences that we could imagine. The rooms, service, food, and atmosphere were perfect. Ryan and the staff were attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to those couples who enjoy privacy, excellent service, fine food, and total relaxation.

Room Tip: Our room was the corner room #021. It was a large suite with a bathroom larger than most hotel room...

We stayed with friends over the weekend at this beautiful hotel that has the most magnificent setting overlooking the Puigpunyent valley. On arrival we were upgraded to a very large suite which was extremely generous and greatly appreciated although our friends "luxury double" room was in any event quite superb. Staff are very helpful and anxious to make sure that everything was as we wished.

We have previously visited in summer and had no idea that the winter dining arrangements have changed. The fabulous restaurant menu is not available and is instead replaced by the "bistro" menu that is applicable for both lunch and dinner. This falls a long way short and we were extremely disappointed. This menu can be viewed on the hotel website so we do recommend that you check that this is what you expect from a 5 star hotel with a beautiful dining room. Alternative dining options would require driving a reasonable distance.

This hotel would be the perfect place for a winter weekend - but only if the Oleum restaurant is open with a full menu.
