My husband and I spent another great week at the Biomar (14-21 September) arriving on out 28th wedding anniversary to a chilled bottle of cava and chocolate covered strawberries! We have stayed twice previously but always in March and always promised ourselves that we would visit in the summer to be able to take more advantage of the pool and outside seating at the piano bar etc.
On coming out of the lift on arrival we were amazed to find that we had been allocated the very same room we had on our previous trip, it was top floor overlooking the road and the farm opposite. Having noted a previous gentleman’s comments regarding the cockerel at the farm I can honestly say that whilst I occasionally heard him it did not spoil things, would rather look onto the view I had and hear sounds of the country than other buildings and noisy bars!! Other comments have related to the road, again whilst this was busier than in winter it did not impact upon our stay.
Weather was lovely and not too hot to prevent us going out walking, either along to Cala Millor / Cala Bona or to S’Illott. Were pleased to see that the small German bakery just round the corner towards Cala Millor was still there and thriving and went every afternoon to share a piece of cake and have a coffee.
It was really strange to be in the hotel when it was full of people as in the winter during the weekdays we pretty much had the place to ourselves as there were very few guests and the majority of the time we were the only English. We are torn as to whether we prefer summer or winter as whilst it was lovely to be able to sun bathe etc in the winter months the main restaurant was only open at weekends and we got to eat in a choice of two of the speciality restaurants open each evening which was lovely. We used our free meal to eat at Toscana on our anniversary which is our favourite of them all. The main restaurant always had plenty of choice although things do get a little hectic around the ‘show cooking’ station as people wait to be served, not sure how the chefs ever remember who is waiting for what. The al fresco evening was a different experience, could not believe the size of some of the steaks they were cooking, will remember another time that they serve cocktails to guests arriving for the meal as we had stopped off at the piano bar for our usual pre dinner fino sherry!
Entertainment was in the main very good, we would usually have a short walk out after the meal and then judge when we returned how long we were going to stay and listen, if we thought we were not going to stay long would order a glass of wine but on the evening that the Jazz saxophone group who were very good were on we had a gin and tonic each which were huge!
We did not use the spa pool as much as in the winter but made full use of the gym every afternoon. Whilst there were more staff around in the summer we did spot familiar faces amongst them and every member of staff was always very polite, I feel they all take the lead from the general manager who is the most hands on person I have ever come across and always fully engages with his guests. After having a bad week at work the week prior to going away this hotel was just what I needed to fully relax and chill and am already looking forward to going back some day when the travel schedule allows.
