t1m13's review has got it exactly right about the food, it is accurate and I couldn't agree more. We too were sent here from the Cay Sun Beach (please see my separate reviews), we stayed only one night and went back thanks to Tom the excellent Cosmos rep.
When we arrived at 11pm, we went in through the reception which looks lovely with Moroccan lanterns- but that is the reception of the Iberostar and is far superior to the one we were sent to. The Cay Sun reception was closed.
The hotel room was spacious, clean, had a balcony with a fabulous view. The tap didn't work.
At 11pm the restaurant was closed (apparently it doesn't have a phone according to the receptionist so she couldn't call to ask them to stay open a few more minutes for us).
We went out to find somewhere to eat as our flight had been delayed and there was nothing open- we found a sports bar which was closing, the lovely lady sold us water, wine and Pringles, if it hadn't been for her we would have had nothing.
The sports bar is in a shopping centre which we went to the next morning to find some breakfast- but there was nothing there, most of the units are empty, there is a supermarket and the sports bar and I think you can hire a bike.
We ended up going back to the hotel and we asked the receptionists where we could have breakfast.
They told us we could go to the restaurant so we did.
Good points: the staff kept the tables cleaned. No one asked us for a room number or if we were all inclusive which we weren't, so no hassle. The bread was fresh.
Bad points: the coffee comes from a machine and tastes of chemicals. The orange juice comes from a machine and tastes of washing up liquid. The food is left under warming lamps and not properly cooked- raw on one side and overcooked on the other. The eggs were like rubber.
And of course, worst of all, if there is a fire or someone chokes or is taken ill- there isn't a phone to call for help in the restaurant!
We had heard the restaurant had recently been closed for health and safety reasons.
The pool looked clean but when we tested it, it was freezing cold.
If you like taxis, buses, long walks, lousy food and are content to sit on the balcony for your entire holiday, then by all means please stay here.
If you don't.........you have been warned!

We were transfered to this hotel when we arrived as our original booking of the excellent Cay Beach Sun had a 'problem' (seems to be a common theme when reading the reviews and seems a bit suspicious given the number of times it happens) with the promise of free TV (i dont speak Spanish or German so no real use) Air Conditioning (Canaries in Feb?) and half board. When we arrived, we were asked to sign a form stating we would accept full board as compensation (you only get breakfast and evening meal) which on the face of it seems pretty fair as the original hotel was self catering. Firstly, good points; rooms are clean and spacious but that is about it. Bad points; food is absolutely abysmal - we have a three year old Cocker Spaniel at home who eats anything but even he would turn his nose up at the food and lick his own ring in preference to the slop they serve. Previous reviews suggest the restaurant was closed by local health inspectors and i can see why - never experienced food this bad in my life. The hotel is a long way from the main beach and restaurants - over an hour walk - and there is only one pool on site which is manned by an octagenarian life guard who, to be fair, has an easy job as nobody actually swims. My advice would be, do not accept a transfer here from Cay Beach Sun - you are being conned - and if you have booked here all inclusive, pack plenty of Super Noodles!

We were absolutely disgusted with this hotel which is all but closed down, we only ever saw 3 members of staff in total, and the reception is only open very infrequently.
On arrival it was closed and we had to check in at the adjacent hotel
up numerous flights of steps with our luggage, and then we were just sent off to find our own room with no help.
On the first night we discovered that the restaurant had been closed by the health inspector, we were told this by a member of staff on a flying visit,
and that we would have to use this restaurant at the adjacent hotel.
The food there was very poor quality with little choice and definitely not of
4 star standard which is what we booked and expected.
The restaurant reopened on our last morning so we had breakfast there, it seems that we had been fortunate, it was worse than the one we had been using.
The food had been set out God knows how long before, not all the heaters were working so all the food was cold, no members of staff were there so no waiter service. Drinks were all from vending machines (including the wine for the evening meal) It appears that we were expected to use the microwave to reheat the bacon and eggs.
The pool was supposed to be heated and was not, so we never got to use it all week.
We were on an all-inclusive basis, however most of the time the pool bar was unattended by a barman and we had to help ourselves to low quality drinks, so any cocktails were out of the question. Food was not available outside of main meal times, which again in our experience is usual for AI.
After the pool bar closed drinks were transferred to the, as the guests called it - The underground car park bar, which best describes it as it is very cold and uninviting, not somewhere you would want to linger.
Here the same thing applied, help yourself, most times wine was not available and when it was it was dispensed from a plastic container. Also no drinks were available after 11 pm !
No entertainment all week.

This is a 2 star standard hotel at best, and should not be represented and sold as a 4 star.
DO NOT GO HERE !

Room Tip: Find a differnt hotel that is open !

We were at Cay Beach at the same time as John L and it is not a wheelchair friendly place at all.
But from my point of view, we booked here as a last minute break, we found it very good for what we paid. The rooms are very spacious and clean, the staff were very friendly and always willing to help. We arrived after the restaurant was closed so everyone had to eat at the attached hotels restaurant which was 5 star so I had no complaints there at all.
The area is nice, Playa Blanca is only a short bus ride away and the bus stop is directly outside the hotel, cost Feb 2013 1 Euro 30. The Rubicon Marina area is lovely and more upmarket, the prices in the restaurants reflect this, but in Playa Blanca itself the prices are average.
We had a great break and for what we paid, I don't think we could have asked for more.

Room Tip: We stayed in apartment 3011 which was good and had a sea view.

We were sold this holiday on the understanding from the hotel that it was wheelchair friendly and that the rooms were suitable for a wheelchair user. They were most definitely not so don't be fobbed off by the assurances of the management that this hotel is suitable for a wheelchair user. It isn't. There is barely room to get a standard sized wheelchair through the bathroom door. There are no grabrails in the the bathrooms or even room around the toilet to get a wheelchair near. The bedrooms were too cramped to get a wheelchair near the bed and the beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. The air conditioning didn't work and although this wasn't too much of a problem for us so early in the year I can imagine it would be in July and August. The wi-fi access (which has to be paid for) was very hit and miss. There was only a skeleton staff most of the time while we were there. On the second day of our holiday Food Inspectors closed the restaurant down completely after repeated complaints about the food not being warm enough and it didn't open again while we were there. Two good things were that the rooms were spotless and the pool area was lovely, well kept and roomy. Able-bodied family and friends who we were with were not greatly impressed with this hotel but they coped better than we did.

Just returned from Hotel Cay Beach and we had a great time, accommodation 1st class, and very spacious.clean and comfortably furnished. Food was excellent not four star, great fish, stews, paella, steaks and salads, but on the whole more than adequate for my wife and I.Pool and bar area fantastic, no sun bed problem, nice and clean and lots in abundance. Jacquezi brilliant, pool a little cool.Only problem we encountered , no night life easily resolved though across the road there is a Ibrostar hotel with lots going on 200m away.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone for a relaxing Jan/Feb holiday.
The receptionist on duty is so helpful and there is nothing she will not do for you, and finally beware of winging southerners from.

I have been to alot of hotels in my time but i have to say this hotel takes the medal, the staff are very helpful and polite, they make you feel completly at home, just let you help yourselves. If your expecting 5* treatment don't bother!!!!! but if you want to relax, chillout and have a friendly laid back atmosphere with 4* treatment then this is the place for you.The hotel is situated within easy reach of the local town 'Playa Blanco'which in it self needs exploring to find the 'Nags Head' enough said !!! great place !!!
or 15 mins walk and you are on the most incredible beaches, absolutly beautiful.Mind you i would advise to advert the eyes now and again because it reminded me of the fruit n veg section in the local supermarket!!!! You'll see what i mean but don't let it put you off , they are stunning beaches .
In the evening if you fancy something a bit lively then a short regular bus will take you into town for 1 euro 30 cent or a cab for 3 euro 50 cent.

Room Tip: try and be round the pool area but all rooms are very easy to get to.
