“Lovely Villa, Great Weather”
Reviewed 27 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Seven of us spent a very pleasant week in the Casa Royal. The booking process was painless and easy, and the owners were a pleasure to deal with, both before and after our stay. The price was also very reasonable.

There were many good points: the villa itself is lovely – a large semi-detached building with a small back garden containing an equally small pool. This was too small to do lap swimming (as I do most days) but it was nevertheless very nice to have, and it was cleaned twice during our week’s stay. It’s also worth noting that despite being told that we were to bring our own towels for pool use (as villa rules do not permit this usage of the bath towels provided), we found a pile of large beach towels in the lounge cupboard – probably left by previous guests.

The villa was also satisfactorily clean.

The villa will accommodate eight people: there are three bedrooms, one on each floor and all en-suite; this is A Very Good Thing, as our party consisted of three couples and a gooseberry whose wife was unable to join us because of work commitments!

There is plenty of storage space for clothes and so on, and two large lounges, one of which became the Gooseberry’s bedroom, as it contains the pull-out sofa bed.

There’s a small but well-equipped kitchen, with a cooker, fridge freezer, a small microwave and a kettle, as well as plenty of crockery, cutlery and so on.

The villa is located on a gated estate opposite a large shopping mall, which has a large supermarket and various bars, restaurants and shops. During our stay there were free Spanish music performances every night in the quadrangle at the centre of the mall; the flamenco night was particularly good.

The main town of Corralejo is a fifteen minute walk; here there are many many more restaurants, bars and shops. The town is quite “Anglified” in this respect, so if you want a more “local” way of eating, drinking and doing things, head for the old town, which isn’t much further to walk. We had several utterly splendid meals here (as well as some equally good Chinese, Indian and Thai meals down the main strip!)

There were no really bad points; our only problem was that having booked for seven people, we were unable to find bedding for our dear Gooseberry. However, a phone call sorted this out – a helpful girl at the letting agency told us how to get at the extra bedding (but did say that the cleaners had been instructed to prepare for six people).

However, there are a few things you should be aware of. Firstly, the villa is quite noisy – the floor is tiled or stone throughout, and there are no carpets, so every noise echoes throughout the entire building.

There is only one waste bin, situated by the kitchen; small bins in the bedrooms and bathrooms would have been welcome.

The kettle is quite small; this made it impossible to make seven mugs of tea at the same time. First World problems …

Finally, an observation: firstly, we were lucky in that we had privacy, even though the villa is overlooked by others on the estate. This is because a lot of the other villas are empty – the economic recession has bitten here as much as anywhere else. The empty villas are a little derelict; a local told us that many of them were Greek owned, but are now owned by a Spanish bank and are awaiting buyers. There is a bit of a Catch-22 situation here – the bank is unwilling to spend money in the current economic climate to spruce up the villas to attract buyers, but then who would want to buy a villa which doesn’t look nice?

Ideally located for shops bars and beaches. Far enough away from main street to be quiet at night but within walking distance of bars restaurants and supermarket. Spacious inside with 3 floors bathrooms and bedrooms and lovely private pool area in floral garden.

“STUNNING VILLA, BEAUTIFUL GARDENS, EXCELLENT VALUE”

Have just returned from a second visit to Casa Royal with a group of friends and we all had a fantastic time. The villa is decorated inside in light and neutral colours in a contemporary style and has all the facilities you could need and more:- TV, WiFi, PS2, washing machines, separate music/ reading lounge etc. The property is maintained to a high standard and some enhancements have been made since our visit last year. The area around the pool is stunning with beautiful flowering plants and a grassy sunbathing area. The top terrace offers privacy and evening shade and is also surrounded by gorgeous flowers. Whilst I have not stayed in any of the neighbouring villas, from what I have observed the outdoor space at Casa Royal is significantly superior.
The villa is within 1 minutes walk of El Campanario Commercial centre which houses a supermarket, shops, bars & cafes. Taxis are also available here. The Sunday morning market is well worth a visit.
The bus stop where you can catch a connecting bus to the airport is only 5 minutes walk away and we found this a cheaper alternative to taking a taxi or hiring a car. Buses 3 & 6 take you via Puerto Del Resario to/from the airport.
I would definitely recommend a stay at Casa Royal to anyone and am planning to return again next year.
