“So nearly soopa doopa!”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

We holidayed as family here on many occasions in the distant past, and decided to revisit with one our daughters and son in law.
It used to be incredible, and nothing has changed...not even the carpets or decor!

Staff, food and location are superb.

All views from any hotel reservation are good. We paid extra for sea view rooms but wouldn't do so if we choose to return.

It is clear from the relationship between guests and staff that MANY people return again and again.

You can tolerate the outdated decor and tired carpets because the pluses really are major.

The only real downside for us was that at 57 I felt young! Our daughter and son in law felt embryonic! Yep and old folks home by the sea. Nothing wrong with that of course...but something to be mindful of.

Entertainment was poor...but in being so was sometimes hilarious!

Would we return?...well yes. The beach really is incredible

Thank you to the staff and chefs.....if RIU updated the hotel clearly the prices would rise BUT it would make the stay very nearly perfect.

This is a stunning hotel and boasts many qualities: the customer service is second to none, the grounds around the pool/s are beautiful and well maintained, the rooms are well furnished and very clean, the food [although buffet style] is of outstanding quality and is fit for a royal visit. The hotel has 4 tennis courts which is fantastic but the wind can prevent play at times. The spa is beautifully set and the staff are friendly and treatments superb.

Some constructive criticisms…

the hotel’s clientele are 99% over the age 60 and perhaps more needs to be done to encourage new young professionals to stay, at least 75% [if not more] are German and some were unbelievably rude so perhaps more needs to be done in terms of marketing to encourage other nationalities to stay [it is never good to have a majority because it isolates], the beds arent very comfortable, the gym needs to have free weights that go heavier than 5kg and some more fitness machines, both pools are extremely cold and not many people swam as a result, sadly there are no fitness or recreational classes, there is a table tennis table although it is in need of urgent repair and a pool table. The final downside, which many guests joked about, was the evening’s entertainment. On most nights it was a male/female duo act called Paloma and it was like walking back in time 30 years. The gentleman plays the keyboard and the female sings along. The music is very dated [and trust me not in a classic way] and everyone was convinced they weren’t even signing… especially when “Coming Home For Christmas” came on. The hotel needs to inject more life, vibrancy and variety into the entertainment because there is a possibility it will alienate and discourage [especially younger] guests to stay.

All in all a very relaxing stay and I look forward to returning sometime.

Room Tip: Pool/Sea facing with a balcony!

This is indeed a very nice hotel, though getting a bit dated and could do with some refurbishment, especially the corridors, and larger televisions would be nice especially for us poor sighted folk.
beds are very hard, but we were given toppers which solved the problem.
Staff very courteous, friendly and eager to help in any way they can.
Food excellent, with lots of choice.Pools lovely and large, and surrounding areas very well maintained, with no problems getting sunbeds.
Hotel quite isolated, so may not suit all young families
All in all we had a lovely and enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: rooms facing south best, north facing rooms have lovely view but no sun and as prevailing wind from...

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Tres Islas as we have been regular visitors to the hotel over the last 10 years we can judge the hotel quite well.
Location totally and I mean total perfect on fantastic beach
Pool Area very good two large adult pools (one one heated) and one not plus children's pool.
Sun loungers good and very comfy .
The hotel if I am being perfectly honest dose show signs of requiring attention in certain places like carpets in corridors and beds very hard.
But Moore than made up for with the VERY BEST STAFF you will come across the hotel is spotlessly clean and a special thanks should go out to the cleaning staff.
True value for money hotel , very Clean , Very Good and varied food choice and great Staff.
If you want a relaxing Holiday that won't break the Bank as the Nike Advert says JUST DO it book it and enjoy,.
Many thanks to All Staff your efforts show and are Greatly Appreciated.

Room Tip: Book high floor Sea View well worth extra Money

We stayed in the first week in march sea view room was worth the up grade room was cleaned daily. Food was good always something different every night the evening entertainment was not good so we went to town on the bus after our evening meal was good. We have stayed in a couple of RIU hotels in Mexico this is not of the same standard. But for the price we paid for a week made excellent and we would return but only for a week and not the a main holiday.
Staff ware good and helpful the hotel is a good 1 and half hours walk to the town recommend the bus or a taxi.

Just returned from a week in this hotel. We have stayed at several Riu Palaces and this one didn't disappoint. The food, as mentioned by others was a real highlight. Whole prawns, peeled prawns, prawns in sauces, caviar, fish of every kind ....... I could go on. Breakfast equally varied. Juices/smoothies/cereals/nuts/seeds as well as hot dishes, made individually with little delay.
Service excellent. We were a little unlucky with the weather and had a shady room (brilliant view) so when we mentioned we were cool in the evenings a heater was delivered within the hour - as were mattress toppers. (We prefer soft beds.)
The peace of the area was just what we needed but there was a good bus/taxi service to town if preferred.

Room Tip: Decide on your preference. Views over islands and beaches great but no sun or room overlooking pool...

This place is stunning - immaculate grounds in a really beautiful location on a beautiful sandy beach. We spent a week here as a family (wife and 11 month old son) and overall were very well catered for. A good quality cot was provided in the bedroom with a nice soft thick mattress for baby. We got mattress toppers as previous people have suggested, which made the bed v comfortable. Due to baby we went for the 6pm dinner sitting and were allocated a table which other guests told us always had a baby at it. However it was a nice well located table so we were happy to have dinner there all week. The high chair was always already set up when we arrived and was good quality, v sturdy.

Outside there is a v nice heated baby pool, about 30cm deep for baby to play in. As mentioned by most previous reviews, the average age of holidaymakers here is over 60 and mainly german. Thus, when our son made a lot of noise we would get the occasional stare or tutting. Having said that, the majority of people were more like grandparents who found the children quite sweet. Indeed, there are a few families staying here, but only a few.

As others have mentioned, the food really is excellent, lots of choice and varied each day. Also, the cleaners do an excellent job and keep the place spotless in the rooms and communal areas.

Only 4 things let this place down:
- the gym is rubbish. Just a running machine, cross trainer and rowing machine with 3 leg machines thrown in. Nothing for upper body, and dumbells that go up to 5kg weight. Also a half-inflated exercise ball and somewhat flimsy bench.
- evening entertainment is from another era and wouldn't look out of place in heidi hi!
- need more facilities for children eg. baby changing facilities or a soft play area
- no internet in the rooms!!! There is however good wifi in the reception area with decent reception extending to most of the areas around the pools.

Having said that, we would probably come back as, overall, this is a great place!
