“Fantastic location shame about the food.”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

This hotel is situated right on a beautiful beach which is a public beach so sunbeds and parasols are to be paid for. Food and drinks are not permitted from the hotel on the beach. Beware of naked sun worshippers all over the beach also.
When we arrived we didn't get the sea view that was paid for however the room was changed without quibble. Rooms are a little outdated and smell old, which you get used to after a day or so. Beds are hard and lumpy. My wifes mattress was losing springs and had to be changed. Room was clean and tidy. Air conditioning is turned off at 11pm which is most annoying as its after that its needed to aid a restful sleep. The sea views from the balcony were fabulous.

The food in the restaurants was plentiful with an adequate selection if you like all your meats deep fried although the selections were the same every day. After 3 days we were becoming a little tired of fatty food that we decided to eat out a couple of times to break the monotony. The alcohol isn't the best either, weak and not pleasant especially the wine from the self service pumps. Amstel beer was ok though.

This hotel is very popular with Germans and Spanish. There doesn't seem to be many brits using it.

Hotel entertainment isn't the best I've seen but also no the worst. Night time entertainment consisted of the team dancing and miming along to various musical pieces. There was no comedy or anything else involved and some of the miming left them looking like goldfish gasping for air.

Tomsom reps were great and very helpful.

The local town of collerejo is only a short bus ride away and is worth a visit for shopping and restaurants. There's an English pub called The Galleon which have happy hour 4-6 where you can get a pint for €1.50 they also do a decent meal to.

All in all not a bad holiday but we won't be going back to this hotel.

Here is my second review on this hotel this being our most recent stay 30thjuly-9thaug 2014
well we arrived at the hotel about 2.15pm along with a coach load of others, we was all told
to leave our bags an go have lunch an come back to arrange our rooms,
Being myself my partner an 4yr old in tow we head to reception smooth check in,
i was emailing the hotel 4months in advance asking if we could upgrade our rooms to
a suite in the main hotel, we was told we would have to wait intill our arrival an thay couldnt save us a room we was happy to pay the extra 450euros for upgrade!
so when thay told us no suite was avalible an was fully booked! an was given our key an told
we was in the nasty annex!! so got to our room in the annex an these rooms are nasty you had a room with 2 single beds pushed together then another bed made on on the sofa??!!
an a celing fan that would of taken your head off if you turned it on an you was over 5ft 5" as
it hung so low,
so we called recption an thay said we could go to them in morning first thing an we could have a room in the main hotel, so this we did an was given a room on second floor of main hotel these rooms are far better then the annex! so avoid the annex if you can,

For the first 4-5 days the food was ok but after this it does tend to get a bit boreing we mostly choose to eat in the annex resturants as this always seemed to be much better laid out, you always had plenty of stuff to eat always had meet cut in front of you that you could just help yourself to either veal, pork, an turkey once an some kind of meat loaf (mint an cheese???)
plenty of veg etc i found the pizza's was ok
only other thing we found the meat that was left over from that night was made into something else the next day an either served cold or warmed in some sauce etc,
breakfast is the normal eggs bacon beans sausages veg?? toast etcc....
drinks was pretty good you can help yourself to as much as you like beer, wine an coke fanta etc we did notice a few cockroaches running around the resturant a few times,
we also tryed the chinese resturant that you had to book in advance, first time we went here last time we stayed we was told had to wear trousers to eat in there, so i went in trousers in the warm weather we had an i was the only bugger that did!! (wasnt most impressed)

This hotel is set on a lovely beach that you could never find fault with but you must remember this hotel does not own the sun loungers on this beach you have to pay 3euros for them,
the main fault with the hotel is one of there policys is your not allowed to reserve sunbeds but there was NEVER anyone to stop this! the towel war started before the sun come up i was up every morning at 5am as always on the balcony over looking the main pool an people was down there then puting there towles on beds an then not resturning till after 10.30am, an thay say the germans are bad for this mostly well im not sure as most of them was the british!
some mornings i even seen the pool guys reserving certain beds for guests thay become friends with,
This hotel could really do with a refurb as its starting to show some wear an tear as we did not notice any chance in the last few years not even a touch of pain

After our second vist here now i can safely say i will not be returning again, if you want a budget allinclusive hotel right on the beach then this could be ideal for you!

Room Tip: always ask for main hotel

I stayed at this hotel last September for 2 weeks with my family.
We had a late flight so when we arrived the staff told us to go and eat first.
We had an annexe room which was very large, big bathroom with shower. The room was very good- safe and fridge.
The food was lovely, so much choice and something for everyone. The drinks in the main restaurant was serve yourself which was good.
The pools are lovely and the hotel is situated on the beach which is perfect.
Overall was a very lovely holiday and would go back no questions asked.
The hotel does need a refresh and people commenting saying it's old fashioned- it's not that bad!
They have only just been granted permission to stay on the island they have been fighting for years- apparently.

If you get the chance to go, do you won't regret it!

Myself, my husband, and my 2 daughters, aged 5 and 16 spent a week here and really enjoyed it.
We stayed in the annex, which is a bit dated, but absolutely fine for a holiday. The beds weren't the most comfortable and the aircon wasn't the best, but we quickly adapted to the heat. Also, it would have been nice to have a kettle and tea and coffee, but that's nearby, so wasn't a problem. All drinks were on tap and close by.
We really enjoyed the choice of food, it was fresh and had a good variety. My only grumble was the food labeling as my older daughter is a veggie and sometimes it wasn't clear whether the food contained meat or fish. The staff were so helpful and polite and it was always clean in the restaurants.
The pools were great too, although sometimes struggled to get sunbeds for all of us together. The beach was great for us all. My daughters both enjoyed the beach. The sea was lovely and clear. The beaches were very clean. The hotel surroundings were beautiful.
The entertainment was good on the night. It was suitable for all ages, nationalities and the staff who put it on were really good at putting on a show. The staff in the hotel were all so friendly and helpful. We didn't use Riuland or teen club because we weren't advised on how times etc.
We would definitely go back again as we all really enjoyed the holiday.

The hotel on lovely sandy beach which stretches for miles. The whole hotel and annexe area is well kept and clean. The staff are always very helpful, the work very hard to make your holiday enjoyable and they all have a greeting for you and a lovely smile.

Good selection of soups, hot food and salads are on offer with varied menus during the week. The catering through tends to be more for the German clientèle though and I suppose that is because Thompson and Tui are a German owned company and the majority of guests are German.

The pool areas do get busy later in the day but I never had a problem getting a sunbed in the morning.

The rooms are clean but need updating as still has old furniture and tvs in the rooms.

In the pool bar and in the evenings the bar staff work incredibly hard and you do not have to wait usually to get your drink or cocktail.

This year and every year the entertainment team was and has been very disappointing for the evening shows. There again some people thought they were wonderful, so you would have to make your own mind up on that one. There are two days a week, a Wednesday and Sunday when the hotel usually have professional entertainment for an hour which has usually been very good. Not much to do in the evening unless you go to the nearest town which I think is about 5 miles away. A taxi would cost around 10 euros each way.

The Wi-fi room certainly needs furniture replacement and there is a charge of 20 euros a week for each item you use. ie; ipad, phone, laptop. which could work out expensive per week if you want two or more items on wi-fi.

The location on the beach is lovely but can sometimes be very windy, so plenty of sun cream if you spend the day down there.

This was my sixth time of staying and still I had a great holiday. The only let down for me is the hotel entertainment.

Room Tip: Hotel with sea view pool side on higher floors, if you want scenic views.

We have just come back from a 10 day holiday 23 July to 2 August 2014 ,I give it 10/10 The hotel is only 35 minutes from the airport. On arriving the hotel staff are friendly and very helpful. We had a great room 732 over looking the swimming pool the views are fantastic The hotel is spotless every ware the staff work very hard to keep it this way the manager must be very proud of his team .There was no need to get up early for a sunbed there was plenty around with even more available at 3 euros on the beach ,the sea is so blue and the sand so clean and soft, stunning. I cannot praise this hotel and its position enough. My two teenager daughters and my wife have had a great relaxing holiday all inclusive is great no need to carry money for food and drinks just help yourself its all included. The only tour we went on was to the Oasis zoo it was excellent, my daughters feed giraffes and elephants I even got picked to have a python snake around me on stage. the setting and gardens are beautiful a good day out. I must say thank you to the reception for sending me a bottle of champagne and chocolates for my birthday a great thought. For sun bathing swimming or for just relaxing at the bar then you will love this hotel and its position

Room Tip: Pick sea view over the swimming pool room 732

Firstly I'd like to set the record straight regarding the negative reviews. I really don't know what planet these people are on, they are certainly deluded when it comes to expectations. These are probably the same people who turn up in the dining room with rucksacks & sheepishly pull out water bottles and proceed to fill them up from the water station despite the sign asking you not to do it. I mean that's a massive saving of €1.60 for 5 litres at the supermarket at the gate of the complex.
I know at some all inclusive's water is free unfortunately it's not here but it's no big deal.
Then there's the guy who stares at the toaster & then proceeds to stuff a croissant in it, doesn't fit so he then prods it with a knife, when the smoke started I quickly walked away, Crazy people!
So the positives
Location, right on the white sand beach, €7 taxi to Correlejo. Perfect
Food. Great choice & varied defiantly not German based as some implied
Drink. On tap, beer wine soft drinks
Served from bar spirits cocktails & cava.
Didn't rate the wine but stayed at other riu & it was same.
Other drinks are all perfectly palatable
Restaurants. Avoid the main restaurant in main building only ate here on arrival & never again, too crowded & hot.
The restaurant in the annexe is same food but much more pleasant experience with Air con
Asian is well worth a visit we ate twice in the weeks stay both times really nice.
Canarian, very nice too ate there once.
Rooms. We stayed in the annexe with a garden view. Large room with a south facing balcony again very nice. Although I did see some rooms had a less favourable outlook. They are looking a bit dated but not too sad.
Entertainment. Typical hotel style they tried but don't expect Vegas.
Facilities. Gym ok, table tennis table are next to each other so makes difficult when playing at same time. Pool in annexe is great but can get busy.
Bars. Lots of bar staff never had to queue for drinks
To summarise we had an excellent weeks stay at Oliva beach & on value for money alone I will give it 5 stars. Please don't misinterpret this as being a 5 star resort because it's not.
I would return as a family but maybe not as a couple as Club Magic Life in Jandia is better but more expensive
All in all a great holiday.
