“Hotel Arena, good value for money but not a 4* hotel!”
Reviewed 19 September 2011

Stayed at Hotel Arena with my husband for 8 days as part of an all inclusive package. The hotel itself in my opinion was really good value for money, the pool area is great with two large pools and a baby pool which was never busy. The sunbeds do get booked up quickly but if you just stick your towel on one then it's fine.

The rooms were fine and for a week's holiday is all you need, they were very very clean and the towels were changed every day and the floors were spotless which makes walking around with bare feet nice as they're not black by the end of the day!

The food was ok, not great on some nights and towards the end of the week we started eating out so if you can book half board I think that would be wise as for 3 days we didn't eat in the restaurant at all as we were sick of the same food plus the restuarant is far too hot to be able to eat comfortably. The staff were second to none and very helpful and friendly which made us feel like we picked a nice place. The air conditioning in our room did not work so once we had told reception they moved us to a different room straight away which was great.

The hotel is quite far out and away from everything but we knew this before we booked it so we were not surprised. This hotel is definitely for couples and families, it's not a place where I would go on a girl's holiday or if I was looking for nightlife etc because everything is quiet and the bar closes early however there is a shopping centre 5 minutes away that had a live band every night and we spent most of our evenings there. The main town is about a 20 minute walk and also the best part of the beach is a further walk past the town centre and we went there a couple of days as we got bored of sitting around the pool all day.

All in all I'd say this hotel was a nice couples getaway for a week, not sure I could have stayed for two weeks and I would say it's a good 3* and not a 4* as they advertise.

My daughter and I went for a short 4 night break to this hotel. It is not a 4 star hotel but it is very good for a short break. The food is repetitive and many people seemed to go out a couple of nights a week to local restaurants. We were given a room where the air conditioning was broken but it was no problem and were moved to a lovely room by the pool the next morning. The staff are excellent. The lovely beach is half hour walk, the main town also half hour walk where lots of bars and restaurants. The local shopping area where the bell tower is also worth a visit and no charge to go to the top of the bell tower where there is a lovely view. There is not much entertainment, so we walked to the town each evening where lots of things to look at, some street artists etc. If you have any queries please feel free to ask.

Room Tip: All rooms ok, the suites are right by the pool and in the sun all the day.

We have just come back from our honeymoon which we spent here and we did want to come home! The hotel was clean and provided everything you needed, the staff were all really friendly and super helpfull. The food was lovely (im the worlds fussiest eater and i never went hungry!) We will go back next year for sure!
There is not to much to do at the hotel, two pools, a gym, pool table, sauna but that was perfect for us and town is only a ten minute walk away (4euros if feeling lazy). This hotel will be perfect for you if you just want to kick back and enjoy the sun during the day and party at night! Enjoy, we did!! :-)

Room Tip: We upgraded to block four, which are the biggest apartments on the complex and are in the best locat...

I have just come back for a 2 week stay in the Hotel arena with my partner, the stay itself was excellent and to sum it up I was talking to someone on the plane home who asked the name of the company I worked for, I could not remember the name of the company which suggests a very relaxed and forget about about work type of stay.........
The hotel room was very good on the first floor with a great view on the pool and sun most of the day (Room 213), I would come back to this hotel but not all inclusive as the big let down was the food, very bland and the same things all the time, we ended up eating out all of the 2nd week which meant the hoilday was expensive for all inclusive, the poolside was fantastic if you could beat anyone over 60 years old to a sunbed (linford christie would struggle to beat them), the biggest positive for us both was Alvero would works behind the bar, always wants to make you smile and runs the bar better than anyone I have ever seen, the entertainment was OK but we were not there for that, best was micheal the comedian who was really funny, The Hotel itself is a good bit away from the main town but we liked it being away from the noise and only a few euros to get to the town, All in all a great stay and we were impressed with the way the hotel dealt with the patio door lock which did not work when we arrived, was fixed the next day, air conditioner was fantastic in this room as well,
Would recommend this hotel to anyone but it you want good food just eat out.......

Room Tip: Room 213 is 1st fllor over looking the pool.

We have just returned from 10 days at the Hotel Arena and whilst some aspects of the holiday were good others were let down by things which could be easiy fixed.

The Hotel itself is fairly far out and whilst it is only a short taxi( Tam Logan)ride from town it lacks the hussle and bustle of many other hotels.

The rooms are basic and in need of a refurb! The walls in the room were filthy and needed more than a lick of paint. The air con in our room did not work and were fobbed off on numerous occassions before we were given one fan! The plug for which was in the wardrobe at the other end of the room. The bathroom was also in need of a refurb with rust on the bath. In the hotels defence, however, the maids were in the room every day and we were provided with clean towels (even though most of them did have hols or stains!)

The Food and Drink for us were one of the major let downs. The juice wasn't coca-cola/sprite (rola cola!) etc as you would expect from a 4* Hotel. Instead it was cheap imitations. The alcohol on offer was also of very poor quality, after inspecting the vodka, i realised that it was not infact Vodka but identified as "spirit"... not for the faint hearted! No alternatives were on offer and any drinks you did purchase were served in plastic cups even at a night time.
The food choice was very limited. Only one meat dish was on offer each night and this was usually pork. You soon came to notice that the days before food was either put into the pasta or made into soup!!

The entertainment was also fairly poor. There was only one guy who tried his hardest to entertain everyone and as the holiday went on less and less people seemed to be in the bar at night, however, as there was nowhere else to get a drink, you sometimes didnt have much choice! If in doubt they done Bingo! Fun times all round!

All in all, it was a comfortable stay, the hotel is very clean, and as with any canary island there is plenty of mosquitos and cockroaches about... The hotel staff are a mixed bag and they do work very long hours.

Negatives for us were: the food, the fact the bar closes at 11.30 PROMPT and the lack of entertainment. Positives were the cleanliness and the fact that we made 2 great friends, Graeme (Dave) and Sophia!

went for two weeks all inclusive with my partner, we were allocated a poolside room (408) which was practically poolside so that was excellent, other rooms dont have nearly as good an outlook so that should be your first request if possible.room itself was spotless and had everything you could want. Other reviews have mentioned they are dated and maybe they are a little but you are only staying there on holiday so they get the important things spot on. Poolside area is very tight so you are getting up early if you want a sun bed however its again has all you need with the pool bar and restaurant both close by. Drinks are in plastic glasses but that shouldnt put you off as they are some of nicest i have had in AI. Food is good however as with any hotel over a fortnight it can get repetetive and maybe a little more choices at dinner would be helpfull.Staff without exception are hard working and friendly and im sure the catering staff would appreciatte an extra pair of hands as this would help in the dining room as regards waiting which although not a huge problem did happen from time to time when things needed replenishing. The only obvious weekness was the entertainment, they guy repsonisble was not the most enthusiastic and as a result everyhting felt half hearted and a littlle flat sort this out and a few other litlle things and this place is a real winner. enjoyed it and would go back. PS maybe keep poolside bar open at night for the hot nights!!!

Room Tip: ask for a poolside suite (same as other rooms but only metres from the pool!!)

Went with my daughter for two weeks and had a lovely time. Our room was just by the pool which was very large. Cleaned daily by lovely maids. Adjustable air con in room. Towel changed daily. Large bathroom.

Ok if you want a sun bed then you have to get up by 7am latest, but its no hardship to pop out and then go back to bed !

Drinks are great - typically spanish measures.....baileys, tia maria, vodka, gin, wine, sangria ....everything is included.

Breakfast was fantastic, bacon, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, omlettes, boiled eggs, sausages, tomatatoes, its endless.

Lunch and dinner ok too but gets a bit boring after two weeks. Really do need to sort out dinner as need more choice.

Evening entertainment is what you make it . The acts booked were fine and the bar does shut at 11 so get a few drinks in and sit on yr terrace is you want to stay up late.

It is a walk into town but worth doing. 15 mins is all but there is a commercial centre 5 mins away and a supermarket 4 mins away.

Waterpark is a must - great day out and only 15mins walk away as is the market - great bargins.

All in all a great holiday for a great price. Bar Staff and entertainment guy Abel are gems.
Definately would go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor pool side room
