“Great hotel, surprised at some of the comments”
Reviewed 7 February 2014 via mobile

Arrived on 30th January for a week and now wish it was more! We were in 217 which had a huge balcony and view of pool. 15 minute walk to Coralejo centre, had a brilliant time. Staff and food great and hotel spotless

Myself and my husband stayed at the Arena for a week from 24th Jan 2014. It was the first time taking our daughter on holiday as she was only 6 months old. When we arrived they moved us to an upgraded room free of charge as we didn't want to be on the 2nd floor with a buggy and no lifts. The room we had was lovely and right by the pool, restaurant and pool bar. The beds were very comfortable and a travel cot was provided for our daughter. Our terrace got sun the whole day. These rooms are normally priced at a supplement so don't expect to get one for nothing. We were just lucky. There was always something to eat at meal times for all tastes. And between meals you could get snacks such as toasties ect at the pool bar. The entertainment was good and varied although we would only ever see the start of the last show at 10pm as it would be our daughter's bedtime. The children's pool is not heated but one of the other bigger pools is. Cold when you initially get in but fine once you're in. Been in colder in summer months. The staff make this hotel what it is. They made such a fuss over Maya and she too loved the fuss. Ramona the entertainment girl puts the work in and is hilarious. She is great at getting people involved in activities. All the staff at the bar and restaurant are lovely too and cannot do enough for you. We have already booked to go back next January, this time for 10 nights. There is no wonder it has a high number if repeat guests.

We had hoped to stay in a room that we previously had occupied. Unfortunately the arena was overbooked, which meant staying in a sister hotel for our first night. No problem. Taxi provided there and back. We were then upgraded....with a bottle of bubbly by way of an apology.
The staff were very apologetic and to be honest we were given a much better room than we had originally requested.
We renewed friendships with a number of other repeat visitors... all of whom return to the arena for basically the same reason. Good value and friendly ( sincere) staff.
Of course it may not suit everyone for reasons previously noted... e.g. not great for children at this time of the yea i suspect ( coldish pool in January). Primarily, guests tended to be older/retired couples....with some couples with very young, pre school children .
Entertainment finishes at eleven. So noise is not really a problem unless your room is near to the entertainment bar. Not to be recommended.
Others have commented on the hotels location.....but if you are mobile it isn't really an issue.
My wife and i have stayed in several other hotels in Corralejo over the years, there are i am sure
hotels that offer five/six star luxury.....but the arena probably ticks most of the boxes for a friendly , easy going winter break.
Must just mention Alvaro ( pool bar boss ) he is a genuine one off ! ( just call him Elvis!) and ask him to sing.
Restaurant staff could not possibly be more attentive.........as a veggie i had no problem at all. The fish dishes were lovely.
I have previously commented on wheelchair access....doesn't seem to be a problem. The gentleman in the suite next to my wife an i, had en electric 'scooter'...he seemed to get about without a problem.
Over - booking may be an issue to consider......but has never happened previously. I don't know if it is possible to check it out before arrival?. Might be worth doing if in doubt.

Room Tip: Stay away from the night time bar area. Try to avoid a room on the shaded side...it never seems to...

We stayed for 3 nights AI at the end of January.

Best meal of the day was dinner, as there seemed to be a special each night (fajitas, steak etc.) in addition to the normal stuff. Wee bonus, as AI can get a bit samey. Quality of everthing was good, though, so my husband was happy. As a veggie, there was just enough choice for me. As another reviewer said, having one salt cellar in the buffet area instead of on each table was a bit of a bore, especially when you're trying to get organised quickly as the food's a bit tepid, but not the end of the world.

It was really windy when we were there, and it takes a good half an hour to walk to the lovely harbour area of Correlejo. So we would do that during the day, and stay in the hotel in the evening. It's a separate indoor bar at night, so you get your drink in a glass glass. A real treat when you're AI! The fact that they throw in the entertainment on top, was the icing on the cake. Wouldn't normally play bingo, but a wee 15 minutes while your'e sipping on a massive "Baileys" type drink is fun. Different singers each night, and my husband was a massive fan of the bird show. Mario on the bar exemplified service with a smile. I'd agree with everyone else though, all the staff were very nice.

We'd recommend the spa at the nearby 5* Bahia Real on a cloudy day, for 20 euros each. We also got the boat over to Los Lobos (15 euros each return) where you can climb the caldera for a wee challenge. There's also a lighthouse, but not much else.

Room was fine, if a little tired. Appreciated the sofa (always much more comfy than sitting on your bed), and the tea & coffee making facitlies, which you don't always get abroad. If I'm being picky, there's wasn't a huge amount of storage place for your clothes, and I didn't bring tons.

To be honest, the windyness put my off trying Feurteventura for a second time, but maybe we were unlucky. Other than that, I wouldn't hestitate recommending Hotel Arena.

I have just returned from a week spent here (Jan 22nd - 29th 2014). As stated many times by others it is the staff that make this hotel a very good place to stay. I have travelled extensively and stayed in venues from campsites to 6 star hotels and whilst this is not the latter it is a good hotel which can be confirmed by the amount of repeat bookings they receive.

The Rooms- They are clean, reasonably furnished with two single beds and a sofa with another pullout single. The beds are what I would expect to find in a UK three star hotel, not luxurious but not sagging. I am prone to a sore back and neck and did not have either during the week we stayed so I was very pleased . The room would have looked better if it had received a new coat of paint but as we went on a cheap deal that did not bother us. The TV did have some UK channels which I'm afraid we only watched briefly to to catch up with the UK news.

The Food- Yes it is a hot and cold buffet and if you arrived later in the session sometimes required a quick blast in one of the two microwaves but apart from that the full tables show how popular the food is. Salads were very good and plentiful. There was always fresh fruit, bread and fish available. Hot or cold breakfasts including the full english every day. Lunch and dinner have hot and cold meats available. Nico is one of the waiters who gave us exceptional service.

The Pools and Poolside Bar - I can only say that the pools were beautifully maintained but we did not use them as we were often off the site. Alvaro is the main man at the poolside bar and clearly shows how much he loves his job. He goes the extra mile for his customers and made our stay at the Arena very memorable especially with his ice cube tossing display.

Things to do- We enjoyed the day we spent at the south of the island (4 degrees warmer). Quad biking is a definite must if you don't mind a bit of excitement and getting a little dirty. Sailing to a Lanzarote bay on the Catalanza Catamaran included a ride on the jet ski and snorkeling off the side and under the boat in water full of fish and sometimes dolphins. We also went to the Music Hall Tavern where we had a dinner and one of the funniest shows we have ever seen. Three drag queens and two dancers put on some fabulous acts and we would recommend them to any adults. But unless you are willing to take part do not sit near the stage.

If you want to go to a really good restaurant where we had the best steaks we have ever tasted ( we also went to a steak restaurant and their food was nowhere near as good) La Playita in Corralejo we strongly recommend and would love to go back to.

Would we go again? Yes definitely but probably later in the year when it is warmer. (It is very windy most days.)

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Arena from 1st - 8th January on an all inclusive deal. Our first impression was that it was definitely not a 4 star hotel as advertised, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits and we were right not to do so! The hotel was clean, the staff were amazing, with nothing too small help you with and there was always a good selection of fish and meats at lunch and dinner, as well as a good breakfast buffet, although I'd avoid the fry up as it often looked ominous, however, there was a good selection of everything else. They catered for awkward children and adults who only eat fast food but always had healthy salads and other options for the rest. The staff were always friendly and welcoming and always served with a smile. The pool two pools were large enough with plenty of loungers although one side tends to get a lot less sun, so people save their loungers quite early, but if you can't be 'em...join 'em! Our room was right by the restaurant, so we did tend to get woken up early, but it didn't really bother us as we didn't want to waste the day anyway. Our room was cleaned daily, it was large and spacious and the shower was excellent, although we had a taped up air vent above it. One night the hairdryer blew up and died, but within minutes of reporting it, a new one had been installed - fuss free and with a smile! The endless white beach (El Grandes playas) and huge sand dunes are about a 20 minute walk away from the hotel and the main town of Corralejo was just a short taxi ride away and has lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. Corralejo has a slight behemian vibe due to the surf community, so it's a nice mix of people and out of all the canaries, this is by far my favourite. Although the hotel ameneties and nightlife were more on par with a 3* hotel, the service from the staff were 5*, so I guess advertising it as a 4 star was fair enough! Would definitely recommend to those as couples or as families as it caters for all. Not a party hotel, so if young adults and teenagers are looking to stay, it definitely won't be their cup of tea.
