Hotel Atlantis Dunapark
Ranked #25 of 45 Hotels in Corralejo
Reviewed 12 April 2011

We stayed there for 7 nights, with other 4 young friends. We had a car and traveled all days except 1, when we enjoyed the pool. You can find free parking places on the streets nearby.

The hotel is nice and the personnel is friendly (we asked for small repairs and they were prompt to do them). However, the hotels seems quite old and tired, although it is clean. We took only breakfast and it was plenty of food to choose from (English and continental), but it seemed more like a canteen. It has good wireless internet connection only in lobby and pool area.

The location is very good - just 4 min from a city beach and 5 min walk from central Corralejo bars & restaurants area. The amazing dunes and nearby beaches are just 10 min drive away.

I would recommend it for ppl on a budget, who want to spend a amazing holiday in Corralejo area. If u find a good deal, take it, if not, better look for a fancier hotel.

Room Tip: Garden view - kids play area. Quiet spacious clean

We stayed here for one night on a half board basis. What a refreshing change from bahia lobos where our insurance company had placed us on the previous night (we could not fly:our daughter was ill). The receptionist was sympathetic to our plight, and got our room ready earlier than expected. He also allocated us a very quiet room as we requested. They could not have been more helpful. We explained that we needed new boarding passes printed out, and unprompted we were offered the receptionists email address, and he dutifully printed them for us.
The bar staff were equally friendly, and the lady who served us by the pool was lovely. We didn't realise it was 'happy hour', but she waited till my husband had finished his beer then brought a fresh one to the table. She was very engaging with our children too.

We were in a family room which wasn't enormous, but adequate and beautifully clean. The beds were comfy. a fridge was provided , a tv with satellite and a hair dryer. Good quality furnishings.

The breakfast was of a good standard with breads, fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts and English style cooked. The evening meal offered a variety, and was fairly traditional. Buffet style soup, bread salad paella and other spanish dishes were offered. We ended up having only a starter as we were tempted by the Tex Mex nearby (lovely BTW!).

The pool area was nicely kept with a life guard on duty. There was a children's play area with more equipt than usual: swings , slides , climbing frame, igloo house, see saw, wobbly animals and sandpit. There appeared to be a kids club, but according to another couple we chatted to, it hadn't been open that week..maybe it only opens during peak season?

Location wise, this hotel is hard to beat. 200 yards from the lovely Waikiki beach and just off the main shopping/eating street.
I imagine some of the rooms would be noisy on the main road, but ours was lovely and quiet...room 1041 ...if you ask for one located on this side of the hotel,it will be quiet and you also get a lovely pool view.

All in all an excellent hotel. People who grumble are expecting English 4*. This has 4* decor/standards of service and cleanliness. If you also want 4* facilities you may have to pay more. Personally I would go back there tomorrow, but opt for B&B as the spanish style food is a bit limited.

The hotel has good facilities and close to local restaurants and bars so best to eat out for dinner
Breakfast was a bit hit and miss running out of items regularly and a bit short staffed
Overall a pleasant stay but there are some noisey rooms facing the main road and the rock cafe so ask for a quiet room!

Nice hotel, friendly staff and plenty of food selection particularly for breakfast. The pool area is small but quiet and when we were there the hotel was fully booked. Not sure how the rating of 4* can be justified, most definitely no better than 3*.

However, I would definitely not recommend garden view rooms! Ensure you book pool view rooms. Our first room was garden view on the first floor, it was clean and tidy and the balcony had plenty of sunlight BUT we were directly above the Robins Nest Pub which had live music til midnight blaring through the room and the entire floor(not good when you're tired and pregnant as I was) . We were then moved to a ground floor garden view room at the furthest point of the hotel at the end of the corridor. This was much quieter however the room was tatty with paint peeling off the walls and marks everywhere, the air con was useless and there were pipes running through the room which had air in them and constantly made annoying noises. The balcony was completely shaded by vegetation and blocked all sunlight, because the vegetation was constantly damp there was a constant rotting/sewerage type smell so we didn't sit out on the balcony or have the windows open. Friends of ours had a pool view room and this was so much better!

So yes I would go again for a quick cheap getaway but ONLY on the provision of a pool view room.

I was in room 120 it was very quiet. There were no mosi bites...or mosi problem. Maybe time of the year..they spray the hotel a bit too much with insect killer but this is about midday. I was very pleased with the room a large double bed and very comfortable and clean with those nice oblong pillows so I really slept well here and relaxed too. Only CNN in English but this did not bother me though I might have watched an English movie had they got the channel. I think its a hotel that does appeal to Spanish people and also to a fairly eclectic mix of people I liked this as being with the English does start to feel like home from home.

Three very minor problems 1) no opener for the surprize bottle and 2) you have to order from the mini bar on the phone the number for room service I can't remember but its worth noting it when you check in unless you want frustration! 3) The hot water came too hot with the shower and then cooled so it was a game having a shower but think it depends on demand in the hotel, try a bath!

I also took up on the beach towel which was a good thing as I checked in as my stay was just 3 days. The pool was kept spotless and clean. It was quiet however the hotel was full capacity and the breakfast had so much choice - everything you can imagine. OK the bacon was not good but the fried eggs looked first class and the Spanish are not known for being bacon producers - this is very much a British thing.

The two worest things the jacuzzi which smelt rank (?) I still got in it (yuck) but not for long the day before it had not smelt bad so did not understand it, and the broken doors in the sauna area are dangerous for older people as the hinges are off and the door falls off as you open it, not enough towels provided in the gym - gym adequate I enjoyed it.

The staff were very friendly helpful. I was told I could not take my own chicken soup into the dining room for a second night after having a gallstone pain. This seemed an unnecessary and unfriendly thing to say better to say..if you want to come to the restaurant you must buy some other foods too. I would have been happy to do this..but there do seem to be rules in this hotel..its forbidden to wear swim wear in the sauna in the hotel atlantis sister hotel up the road (?) for hygiene reasons but as we must sit on a towel I don't understand..I could understand about hygiene if this area of the hotel was clean but it was not their best aspect.

THere were not enough receptionists on duty as it was Xmas and the hotel was full two would have been more efficient as the wait was long to speak to them, but usually only one person before you..and some more efficient than other but all helpful and usually pleasant.

Don't bother with the horse and cart ride advertised in reception...he is not doing it anymore he is still doing horse riding and donkey riding, I got offered a donkey ride on a blanket which I did not feel comfortable with . No hats either so if you fell off it would not be funny if you hit your head on a stone but check if he has hats he might be able to get some? He took me for a walk and a drive around which was nice to do instead. I saw the sunset over Fuerteventura in a verdant and green valley.

Finally the bus stop for the sand dunes is not the stop at the edge of town but at the end of the road turn right, but I could not see a visible stop or where i should stand they were not clear on this so I went up to the other stop..and ended up in Cotillo which was a good day trip to see the surfers don't bother going right when you get to the beach go left for restaurants by the harbour and to see the surf beaches..though if you had children the beach to the right is sandy and bathing beach.

When you go to a new hotel there is alot of info to take in I realize..I had prepared to ask them things like the numbers for room service which are not printed on the documents in the room and for the towel and local doctor and ambulance number etc., as I was potentially not in the best of health so the biggest draw back in the hotel is the lack of information about this kind of basic stuff.

Now I know the ropes I would go back but not sure I would stay in this town again..its very touristy and spoilt I think by this. If you want to be everyone who you saw on the plane this is the place to stay! If I come again I will try something in land with a car to hire and see more of the island which I liked. However you can get said bus out to sand dunes and escape it all which is the great thing. Another plus of tourism you can eat almost anything you like I ate in a shopping mall (?!) yuck but it was very good food in a mexican restaurant and also in an Italian restaurant in the shopping mall under big ben where they make all their own pasta which was very very good.

The final thing was they tried to book me a massage I thought at there sister hotel Bahia but infact at Atlantis I had heard about the spa at Bahia and was excited I got there and found I had been booked at Atlantis this a problem that has happened to other clients so watch out. If you find yourself at the Bahia don't try to find the other hotel on foot is a way away get a taxi..I got lost and was on the beach in the dark trying to get in to the same hotel having been lost but not realizing it was the same hotel...they would not let me in and told me to walk round it was better..after 15 mins of walking in the dark in the sand I returned to demand they let me in which they did but I was a bit "traumatlized" by the experience of not being let in to the hotel and having to walk in the dark and being late for my massage!

How could I have relaxed I am not sure but I did!!
