“A nice Christmas Break”
Reviewed 17 January 2013

We have never been away for Christmas before but due to family circumstances we decided to have a change and required a two bedroomed apartment.l

Thomas Cook found this one for us at The Bristol Playa. The hotel is as previously mentioned in reports in need of some modernisation but the staff in reception were very friendly and helpful.

We were very fortunate to have a top floor apartment with both a pool and sea view no 335 and the sun was on some part of the balcony which was huge as it continued round the side of the building at all times of the day.

The cooking facilities were not up to much for self catering but there was a toaster and kettle and apart from breakfast of cereal and toast we usually eat out anyway.

All in all we enjoyed the holiday very much as we had very good weather apart from boxing day which was overcast but we had already booked a trip to Lanzarote that day so it didn't really affect us.

Most days were in the high twenties in the sunshine and it was lovely to walk around the resort calling at several tavernas on route.

Would go back again but may try a different hotel next time if we are unable to get the same room.

Room Tip: We were happy with the room that we had as it was 2 bedrooms and a large balcony very spacious and h...

holiday was not overall spoilt but having cockroaches in the room was not my idea of sharing (see fotos )we had to complain about room service , that was sorted and the room cleaned everyday after that, we stayed from the 2nd jan 2012 till 9th jan 2012 , and as i said the hotel was not very good but we did not let it spoil our little getaway, at least we had 7days of sun and warm weather . one excellent point to tell you about , was a restaurant we visited called the LA LUNA , excellent food and service gihuge portions , almost as if you was taking part in the man v food programme and wery reasonable as well , only 10 minutes walk along the prom towards the harbour . i would certainly go back to corralejo but definetly not that hotel again, but as other reviews state it is really a very quiet hotel in the evenings. the only other excellent thing about the hotel was our Thomas Cook Rep Claire Bird , she was brilliant in handling peoples complaints or problems , i wish we could have more reps like her , or just generally being there

Room Tip: groundfloor with seaview

The Bristol Playa feels isolated situated where it is, with a fair walk through the backstreets to get to all the main bars and restaurants, which can feel a bit intimidating at night, unless you walk the longer way along the coastal route. A sea view apartment would be okay apart from a sewer stench which we could clearly smell each time we walked that way.

On arrival at our accommodation we were informed by the reception clerk that we had been allocated 'a beautiful pool view apartment', and that we would 'love it'. The reality was quite the opposite.

Our 'beautiful' apartment was on the first floor in the far corner of block F, where was a sliver of a pool view, but only if you craned your neck to see from one side of the small terrace. The apartment looked and smelled dirty, dank and damp, with mould clearly visible on the walls and ceiling of the bedroom in particular, as well as the curtains. The bedding was old and poor quality and the mattresses were uncomfortable, and because the room was so cold and damp, so was the bedding. The apartment never received direct sunlight into the rooms, front or back, which made matters worse, so that at night the bedroom was even colder and smelled musty, with condensation forming on the windows.

The fixtures and fittings were old, worn out and in some cases broken, with loose wall fittings, sparse mismatched chipped crockery and utensils, dirty grouting, rusty shower rail and dish drainer, and a shower head which leaked through the perished plastic. The cost of our booking included a supplement for two adult occupancy, yet I can't imagine where two more people could be accommodated in this apartment, as even the settee in the living room was not a sofabed, with just a piece of plywood beneath the worn-out sponge seat instead of springs.

When we complained immediately to the desk clerk and asked to change, he was unsympathetic, and said it was one of the better apartments in the complex and that he could do nothing at the moment because they were fully booked, but to return the next day when he was back on reception and he'd see what was available.

The fact that the clerk in question wasn't on reception again next afternoon spoke volumes, but by that time we'd already complained to our Thomas Cook representative at the welcome meeting the following morning, and asked to be moved to alternative accommodation. We were not the only guests with a complaint; whenever we had cause to be in reception, we witnessed other guests complaining that something was broken or missing from their apartment, or asking to move (there were two other couples at our own welcome meeting in fact, with similar complaints).

Our holiday rep couldn't have been more helpful, and though we eventually found somewhere else ourselves, she gave us help and advice about alternatives nearby, and worked with the Thomas Cook Fuerteventura office who eventually arranged our relocation.

The rest of our holiday was fantastic because we spent it elsewhere, but it could have been dreadful if we'd stayed longer than two nights at the Bristol Playa. Avoid it like the plague.

The prices were reasonable but we given a room on the road side and upgraded to room 170 with a view of Lanzarotte and two wind turbines on the left for 10 euros a night. The wind turbines far from being annoying were quite useful we were able to work out that if they were turned to the hotel you would get a sunny day, if they were facing Lanzarotte you has some cloud. The staff at he hotel were brilliant, but the rooms are what you expect from this rating of hotel, the beds are uncomfy and the bath was too small, The pool area is good but there were a few accidents with the drainaway grates round the pool (they kept collapsing when people trod on them,so be careful with them!) Weather overall was great just one cloudy day (Boxing day) but still warm. It can be a little cool in the evening especially if windy ( a fleece or jumper will sort this out). The resort was buzzing over Christmas, nearly all the places open even on Christmas Eve when they celebrate Navidad.
There were plenty of choice in the way of restaurants, depends on your taste, the resort overall was very good weather perfect! The hotel could do with a refurb and its location is a little isolated in respect of the rest oft he town, but we wandered home on the sea front and the back streets and were never bothered by anyone, You just need some common sense or use taxis to and rom town (theyare cheap enough to do so but if you want better,,,pay more! We will return to this hotel as we have been twice now and have worked things out, great resort for the Christmas break

Room Tip: Dont stay on the road side it is a busy road and noisy , upgrade to the sea view or poolside it was...

Like everybody else who books this apart/hotel the price was right. Upgraded to room 362 for an extra 10 euros a day. View was of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. Room was top floor with all the usual self catering equipment if you needed it.
Plenty of sunbeds, nice pool bar and good supermarket on site. Staff are pleasant and polite in the face of sometimes aggressive holiday makers, thankfully not English this time.
Resort has plenty of choice for food and drinks all very cheap, even found Old Speckled Hen in Robins Nest bar. Local drinks, lager and VAT no more than 7 euros. Cheapest beer was 1.50 a pintish. Just wander and you will find one establishment to suit. Rogues, Reef, Underground, Retro all very good as well as the local restaurants around the harbour.
Most nights we would use the back streets on our return to the Bristol and did not have any problems, just a little common sense is needed.
For all the smokers 200 L/B in resort 19.95 euros and exchange rate was 1.19 without commission.
Enjoy.

Room Tip: Top floor, sea facing, corner room if possible
