I stayed in one of the Villas del Sol for the second of two weeks in Fuerteventura. It was my first trip to the island and, having spent the first week in the south, I wanted spend the second week exploring the north. I had considered several options in Corralejo but I prefer to stay away from the main tourist areas. I stumbled upon the Villas del Sol and it proved to be a very good choice.
Villas del Sol provides a number of villas for rent in a small, self-contained development, La Capellanía, about three miles south of Corralejo. They are managed by a friendly local man on behalf of an agency; he lives along the same road and he is available 24 hours per day if there are any problems. He and his team clean each villa and pool two or three times per week.
I had booked my accommodation through an online travel agent. Bearing in mind that these are essentially residential properties, there is no formal Reception. The contact address I had turned out to be one of the empty rental properties and I had to phone the local contact number, which belonged to the agency, to notify my arrival. (The slight confusion had been partly my fault for not clarifying the details beforehand, for on my return to the UK I found that the online agent had been in touch the week before while I...I stayed in one of the Villas del Sol for the second of two weeks in Fuerteventura. (The slight confusion had been partly my fault for not clarifying the details beforehand, for on my return to the UK I found that the online agent had been in touch the week before while I was already enjoying my first week in Fuerteventura!) Anyway, the agency contacted the manager and he arrived a few minutes later to allocate me to Villa 45.
The villa was spacious. It had a small driveway at the front to park my car. Inside, there was a large lounge with three sofas, coffee tables, satellite television, DVD player and a music player. The kitchen was well equipped with a fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, a sink and a hob for cooking, as well as crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils, and a table and chairs. The bathroom had a bath with a shower, basin, toilet and bidet; and there were two bedrooms, one double and one twin, each with a wardrobe, drawers, lamps and fans. There was an iron and ironing board, and a washing machine in an outside utility room. The villa also provided a small safe.
The highlight of the villa, and the feature that had most grabbed my attention when booking, was the private patio at the back which provided a small swimming pool, as well as sunbeds, a parasol and a table and chairs. The pool was small and, at about 5m long, it didn’t take much to swim a length; it was, however, a perfect temperature (in September) and a...More
