I returned home from this hotel on june 2nd 2014. We spent 11 nights there all inclusive. If you are looking for a fancy 4 star hotel with good service and food and amenities then dont stay here. The pool overlooks a main road and the pool is tiny with very little space to sunbathe. The food is poor and cold. It is all cheap frozen food and the meat and fish are of poor quality. There is no fresh fruit drinks for breakfast only a machine that offers diluted juice. There is very limited entertainment if you can call it that. The disco consists of low level music and 1 light. The live entertainment consists of 1 guy playing a guitar and another playing a keyboard and all they seem to play are the shadows, which is fine if your 70 plus. The bar staff are miserable and the lager is poor. The gym is the size of an average bedroom - the jacuzi is not powerful enough although the sauna is ok. The maids are however very helpfull and the actual hotel and rooms are very nice, You can pay for your sunbeds on the beach at reception for 3 euros as the blue bar area is subsidised by H TOP HOTELS. The blue bar on the beach will also give you half price drinks - 2.80 euros for a litre glass of beer. The beach is lovely and usually the residents from the Olympic and Palace H TOP HOTELS will also use this part of the beach. To enjoy your stay here you will need to venture out to eat and also get your entertainment. The Alcatraz bar is probably the best place although the drinks are flat. There are only 3 english bars in the area. When you walk around you will see a number of bars are boarded up as Calella is not as busy as it used to be. Its worth getting the train into Barcalona which takes an hour and is around 9.80 euros return. You can get the time table and a map from reception. If you want to go to the football ground at camp nou then its 23 eros for adults on the gate and you dont need to book. Oh and dont bother going to the Olympic hotel as its awful, it smells like a pontins. The Palace hotel is a little better but either way you wont be able to use your all inclusive cards in them after 19.00. Calella is a really nice place but I would recommend that you go self catering as there are many good restaurants and bars. Also dont leave mobile phones on show as this will make you a target, I saw this for myself.

Room Tip: The sea view is a gap between other hotels and you are approximately 200 metres from the beach.

This was our second visit for the end of May half term week. This time a party of 8 ranging from 71-14. Everyone loved the hotel.

Our rooms were on the 7th floor, 701 and 702 faced the town and had sun in the morning. Rooms 704, 5 & 7 faces the pool and had sun in the afternoon. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The fridge is handy for cool drinks. You can hire a safe for €28 plus €10 deposit, pool towels for €10 deposit and wifi is €20 for the week.
However every couple of hours you can log on for a free 15 mins which is great for the occasional look at Facebook or to check emails.

The food is brilliant - generally when all inclusive we get a bit board and eat out but didn't here. Quality and choice was exceptional - and we had some fussy eaters with us. The all inclusive includes some brands like Bacardi and Baileys and you can get a €5 cocktail for €2 - wish I had realised this a bit earlier in the week!

Entertainment isn't up to much but the animation staff were lovely and as there weren't many kids encouraged us to have a go at their day time activities. A couple of us even had our faces painted on the last day! The rest of the staff are friendly and helpful too - in the restaurant staff made sure we had a table for 8 every lunch and dinner.

The weather wasn't great - it could be sunny one minute and pouring with rain the next. Most days were cool - last year they said it was unseasonably cold and wet - this year the weather was worse. One day there was a massive thunder storm - brilliant to watch from the balcony but if you go in May make sure you pack some warmer cloths!

Location is brilliant - the main shopping street is over the road, the beach is 1 minute away and more bars and crazy golf are a few minutes in the other way.

One word of WARNING - my father in law was pick pocketed in the tobacco shop near the church and lost his wallet with a lot of cash and a bank card. It appears it is quite common here and they work in little groups of 3 - one gets in your way, 1 keeps watch while the other picks your pocket. I am sure this happens everywhere but because the area appears so nice and no one warns you you are lulled into a false sense of security - or we were.

I would go back to the hotel but not take a chance on the weather in May again.

We booked the Pineda Palace but were changed to this hotel as ours was closed the hotel was spotless everywere and the decor amazing all of the staff were so helpfull we went all inclusive and the choice of drinks on AI were betterr than we expected the only down side was the meat dishes could have been better. After using the free shuttle bus we lunched at the Royal beach llorett and the Pineda palace when it opened and found the food to be better than the Amaika but value for money £28.60 per person per day (low cost hloidays) i doubt you could find better value would we return yes but only if the Pineda palace is closed

Room Tip: try for room away from the main road
