Second time in Calella, first time at the Volga Hotel. We arrived late but after a very helpful man booked us in, we found they had even laid on two plates of food for us, this was a really nice touch. (Just a shame there wasn't a microwave), but it was still greatly received.
The hotel reception staff always aimed to please. The food choice and quality was outstanding. The waiting staff in the restaurant were also superb, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The Volga is in a great position in the town, be aware it is next to a train line, this did not affect our stay at all, In fact it made it ideal as we came in from Barcelona on the train. We had read other reviews and were fully aware of this when we booked it. The pool area is on the small side, however it is very well maintained and the service around the pool is also to a very high standard. I just ordered what I wanted on the way through to the pool area and the waiter kindly brought it out to me. We only stayed three nights but what we saw of the entertainment in the evening, it was all good fun. Our room was very modern, clean and tidy, twin sinks in the ensuite, this was very nice. Best of all was the shower, it was superb. No door just walk-in, it had a shower attachment and a very large overhead shower.

Calella itself is a lovely place to stay just across from the beach with the multiple beach bars that accommodate for all ages. Shops and bars all over the small town. We hired a couple of bikes in the town and went all the way along the coast this was a great day. There is also a handy supermarket just across the road from the hotel
My last point is this, which we found out on the last day. If you can upgrade your room to one of the fifth floor rooms, its not a lot more, definitely worth it, they have a Jacuzzi and a much larger balcony. I for one, when we return, will definitely try to do this.
A lovely stay in a great hotel, we will be back!!

Can not say enough good things about this hotel. We stayed here in May 2014 as part of a group of 35 choral singers attending the International Choral Festival in Calella. The hotel is spotless, food is AMAZING (would highly recommend the half board option), staff very friendly.
Pool is small but absolutely adequate. Seating around the pool is lovely. And best of all they have a beach club with the most amazingly friendly staff and the food and cocktails are fab! All in all a great weekend in Calella.

Room tip: Choose pool side room with sea views. The higher you go the better the view!!

On my last 3 visits to Calella Ive stayed in the sister hotel to the Volga,The Kaktus Playa,
I asked for a room with a sea view, which I got, but it wasnt what I had expected, which was a room with a balcony. The room had no balcony and over looked the back street, However the sea view was from the bathroom!!! Unfortunatley there were 2 parties of unsupervised school children, who did think of the other users of the hotel. by running wild
The food left something to be desired, whilst it was edible it was not up to the standard of the Kaktus Playa, who have themed dining nights. The entertaining was not up to much except for one night when they had a flamenco night this was outstanding. The staff were efficient, how ever the star member was Jose, the barman. who had to put up with abuses from the arrogant school children. which he just took in his stride. Hes was always helpful and very efficent at his job. A five star employee

Spent Christmas and New year at the Volga plus Callela on a coach trip, could not fault the hotel the staff were brilliant could not do enough for you. The food was very good with plenty of choice for every taste. The entertainment was also very good something daytime and evening every day prices for drinks were reasonable and the service was very good. The shops around the hotel were great The room we had was very clean the cleaners came in every day we had a view of the beach (the other side of the railway line) and the weather was quite warm. Plenty of places to visit close by We have not been away from home at Christmas before but after this experience we will definitely be doing it again Thanks very much to all the staff and management at the Volga we will be back.

Room tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool sunshine all day
