This will be our third visit to the Volga. We like it mainly because it is away from the more commercialised part of Calella. The hotel is situated a short walk from the train station and beach. Also a short walk to the main shopping street and restuarants and bars. If you are into walking then this is the place for you as you can walk along beach to next village of sant pere de pol.
The staff are friendly and always keen to help with any queries.
We especially like the Beach Club which is a 5min walk from the hotel. The staff there are helpful, friendly and produce good food from a tiny little kitchen. The music is great and adds to the overall atmosphere of the place. Good comfortable beds and brollies right beside the sea with lots of space between beds.
Rooms have recently been refurbished and are trendy and comfortable.
Restuarant is buffet style with a big choice of food including salad bar, chef cooking food in front of you and large choice of desserts. Never encountered any queuing whilst we were there and always found something tasty to eat. Choices include fish, pork, beef, pasta, chicken and lamb.
We used Travel Republic for transfer from Barcelona Airport who were punctual and comfortable coach with few stops on way.
We will return again next year.

Second time in Calella, first time at the Volga Hotel. We arrived late but after a very helpful man booked us in, we found they had even laid on two plates of food for us, this was a really nice touch. (Just a shame there wasn't a microwave), but it was still greatly received.
The hotel reception staff always aimed to please. The food choice and quality was outstanding. The waiting staff in the restaurant were also superb, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The Volga is in a great position in the town, be aware it is next to a train line, this did not affect our stay at all, In fact it made it ideal as we came in from Barcelona on the train. We had read other reviews and were fully aware of this when we booked it. The pool area is on the small side, however it is very well maintained and the service around the pool is also to a very high standard. I just ordered what I wanted on the way through to the pool area and the waiter kindly brought it out to me. We only stayed three nights but what we saw of the entertainment in the evening, it was all good fun. Our room was very modern, clean and tidy, twin sinks in the ensuite, this was very nice. Best of all was the shower, it was superb. No door just walk-in, it had a shower attachment and a very large overhead shower.

Calella itself is a lovely place to stay just across from the beach with the multiple beach bars that accommodate for all ages. Shops and bars all over the small town. We hired a couple of bikes in the town and went all the way along the coast this was a great day. There is also a handy supermarket just across the road from the hotel
My last point is this, which we found out on the last day. If you can upgrade your room to one of the fifth floor rooms, its not a lot more, definitely worth it, they have a Jacuzzi and a much larger balcony. I for one, when we return, will definitely try to do this.
A lovely stay in a great hotel, we will be back!!

Can not say enough good things about this hotel. We stayed here in May 2014 as part of a group of 35 choral singers attending the International Choral Festival in Calella. The hotel is spotless, food is AMAZING (would highly recommend the half board option), staff very friendly.
Pool is small but absolutely adequate. Seating around the pool is lovely. And best of all they have a beach club with the most amazingly friendly staff and the food and cocktails are fab! All in all a great weekend in Calella.

Room Tip: Choose pool side room with sea views. The higher you go the better the view!!

On my last 3 visits to Calella Ive stayed in the sister hotel to the Volga,The Kaktus Playa,
I asked for a room with a sea view, which I got, but it wasnt what I had expected, which was a room with a balcony. The room had no balcony and over looked the back street, However the sea view was from the bathroom!!! Unfortunatley there were 2 parties of unsupervised school children, who did think of the other users of the hotel. by running wild
The food left something to be desired, whilst it was edible it was not up to the standard of the Kaktus Playa, who have themed dining nights. The entertaining was not up to much except for one night when they had a flamenco night this was outstanding. The staff were efficient, how ever the star member was Jose, the barman. who had to put up with abuses from the arrogant school children. which he just took in his stride. Hes was always helpful and very efficent at his job. A five star employee

Spent Christmas and New year at the Volga plus Callela on a coach trip, could not fault the hotel the staff were brilliant could not do enough for you. The food was very good with plenty of choice for every taste. The entertainment was also very good something daytime and evening every day prices for drinks were reasonable and the service was very good. The shops around the hotel were great The room we had was very clean the cleaners came in every day we had a view of the beach (the other side of the railway line) and the weather was quite warm. Plenty of places to visit close by We have not been away from home at Christmas before but after this experience we will definitely be doing it again Thanks very much to all the staff and management at the Volga we will be back.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool sunshine all day

For a change I spent Christmas in Spain at the Hotel Volga in Callela. The holiday was a coach/stay holiday organised via Leger Holidays which involved 2 days travel each way that I found to be a bit arduous. The overnight stay in Paris was greatly cut short by bad weather in Dover so the 2nd days journey was a bit rushed in order to make up time, however, congratulations to our 2 drivers - Kenny & Ivo - for making up time. Also, well done for the conversion of the Coach lounge area into Santa's Grotto (see attached).

The Hotel was nice, clean and the food excellent. Staff were very helpful and the entertainment team did an excellent job. The bar prices were very good for an Hotel and with Golden Hour from 2 - 6 was good value for money. Nearly every one there was off coach holidays and by the large number of repeat stayers I can only assume the good standards have been maintained for a long while. The local Station was 5 minutes walk away and a good service (trains actually ran on Christmas day !!!! ) in either direction along the coast at reasonable prices. The noise of trains did not really cause disturbance to people I spoke to.

Must admit though my rooms balcony was technically a balcony but in reality it was a shelf with railings.(See attached). The poolside area was quite small for the number of rooms and, although it didn't matter at the time of my stay I could imagine quite a scramble in summer.

It would be hard to judge Callela as it was out of season but I couldn't describe it as "bustling" and the number of British bars was limited. Very much a Spanish holiday resort.

As an overall assessment I would say that if you like coach style holidays and want to go away for Christmas with good accommodation then this holiday is right up your street.

Room Tip: Get one on the Pool side - sun in the morning.
