“Very Pleasantly Surprised”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

Myself and my fiancee wanted a long weekend away and so booked a last minute deal for 3 nights with onthebeach, all inclusive with flights/transfers we paid about 140 each, can't moan at that! We arrived at the hotel just before lunch and was greeted by pleasant we'll English spoken staff, the room was small and basic yes but was clean and tidy, bathroom with bath, a tv with BBC 1,2 and ITV,.and air con which worked superbly, kept room like a fridge. Food was more than adequate, with plenty of choice, from burgers, chips to aubergine bake, lasagna etc, desserts of cakes/ice cream etc, we were more than happy with the food at all meal times, hotel location is fab, 5 mins from beach, 15 min walk to train station to visit the rest of Costa Brava. Staff excellent, very friendly at all times, yes the hotel was busy as its the summer hols, so you can't expect it to be quiet, 3 pools all kept clean and very Big too. We never had to wait more than 5 mins for a drink at the bar. Chocolate fountain on "Italian" theme night on the Saturday was fab btw mmmm :-D. Overall very satisfied customers, I think people need to open their eyes and actually spend their holiday enjoying themselves instead of moaning all the time, makes me laugh how pathetic some people can be moaning cos there is a hair on the floor of the bar, grow up people. We will be returning in the future, well done HTOP Olympic :-D

Spent 7 nights at Olympic and overall the place is adequate. Main problem with it is the large number of unsupervised, pig ignorant, loud, rude, aggressive and selfish German kids. They spoilt what should have been a nice holiday. A lesser problem is the service in the dining room. The food isn't too bad but they don't seem to be terribly interested in replacing the empty trays and quite often there was no choice at all. Cheese, ham and salads were very nice. Fruit was a bit dodgy at times but lovely cakes on offer mostly. The provision of drinks in the dining room is a bit of a lottery and they don't bother to cover the pop machine if it isn't working which is a bit stupid. The staff in the dining room were ok. The girls doing the table clearing work really hard and are quite smiley. The men not so much.
The bar staff were a bit snotty now and then but on the whole ok. They were very busy and we never really had to queue for a drink. Shame they won't let you have a pint tho that seems a bit tight and it would help prevent queues at the bar.
Our room was alright. Beds not terribly comfortable, but the maid came every day and was very nice and did a good job with the cleaning.
The hotel stressed me out a bit as its very very noisy. There is piped music everywhere and the floors are all tiled so everything echoes and if upstairs move a chair you hear it !
Overall the hotel was just ok although I wouldn't go back by choice. As I said previously the German teenagers ruined it for everyone, there were loads of them all over callela - shame really because its a lovely place. They could really do with some supervision as their behaviour is atrocious.

First of all, please accept our apologies for the incidents occurred in our
establishment during your stay.

About the students, we usually have some groups of them from all over
Europe. But they are always allocated between the first and the third floors
to avoid mixing them with the families wich usually are on higher floors. It
is important to know as well that we have security service keeping the
aisles and common areas of the hotel as quiet possible.

We can assure you that our goal is learning of our experiences and keep on
working to offer you and everyone of our customers the most efficient and
professional service.

The hotel itself was fine, bit out dated but you get what you paid for. Had a nice pool with lots of sun loungers and umbrellas.

Me and a friend went all inclusive for 5 days and on the third day we were coming out of the restaurant after lunch and didn't see a spillage on the marble floor and I fell over. A lady was walking behind us and shouted up the stairs to a member of staff about what had happened. All he did was call or a cleaner and walked of, no even coming down the stairs to see if I was okay. After going upstairs to the reception to see what they had to say about it the member of staff who looked like a manger asked me what I wanted him to do about it as it was not his fault.

I would not recommend this hotel for a good time either as the evening entertainment was rubbish and the alcohol was so watered down you couldn't even taste it!!

The food was terrible as well, even though they tried to label what the food was they were wrong on more than a few occasions! e.g. labeling steak as turkey!

The bedroom was out dated and the bathroom had a funny smell from when we first got in the room. Also the bed sheets and blankets had holes in them and seemed a bit old.

If I hadn't of fallen over the stay would of been fine and the little things wrong wouldn't of been a problem but as the staff were so rude about something that was there fault i'm going to moan about everything!!

Room Tip: Pay a bit more money and go to a more expensive hotel!

We are sorry if you not have the holiday you expected.

It is difficult to believe that anyone of our staff or even our manager
answer you like that. We do not have any report about that.

About the food, at the restaurant there are 4 buffet lines where you can
find daily three different hot dishes, meat, vegetables, fish. Our guests
have the possibility to build their own salad with lettuce, tomatoes, onion,
olives, etc. There is also Show Cooking where you can see live cooking. Once
per week there is also a thematic dinner (Catalan, Spanish, Italian,
Mexican). From 10:30 am to 12:00 pm you have the all inclusive snack: Salad,
hamburgers, bacon, French fried, sausages, cheese, ham, salad and other
things.

The rooms are clean and our staff work very hard to keep everything in
order. If there was a problem in the room was never reported to the
reception, so it is difficult to help you if you do not let us know.

We are sure that many hotels in our company will more than live up to your
expectations for future holidays.

We booked this hotel as part of a last min long weekend away , as 3 ladies we just wanted somewhere cheap with decent food drinks and somewhere to sunbathe this hotel fullfilled that . We stayed all inclusive which was ok for 3 nights but couldnt have stayed longer than that as the rooms are very dark , tiny and in desperate need of updating . The food choice was very basic but always found something to eat , the all inclusive drinks system is absolutely ridiculous , you have two cards to use when you first go to the bar one to prove you are on all inc which they hold on to till you hand your glass back to leave and the other to obtain a drink which you have to show everytime you go to the bar . They will only let you get one drink at a time for yourself and one other person . The staff are hardworking and friendly so its not all bad . Dont expect to get drunk though as the drinks are watered down and it takes ages to get served .

This is a slightly late review. I stopped here in 2012 for the third time. I have reviewed this hotel before, but I thought I should update my thoughts again.
We stayed at The Olympic for the Spanish Grand Prix again. There was myself and my partner, and 6 of our friends. We love this hotel for the location, and value. It cost us all about £350 each for 8 nights all inclusive, flights, car hire x 2, grand prix tickets and airport parking!!! So its fantastic value.
The Staff are all lovely as long as you are polite. They all work long hours, so if you are grumpy with them they will be grumpy back!
We arrived mid afternoon. We all got checked in quickly, and you all have to get your picture taken for your all inclusive card. You can then use this for food and drink in any of the other H Top Hotels in the area. There is a 4* across the road and another about a 3 minute walk away.
We had 2 per room. 3 is a little squeeze but we were on holiday and spent minimal time in the room!!!
The food is all fine. Not a la carte, but what do you expect for what you pay??! The guys we were with loved breakfast as they served 'champagne'! Not for me, but each to their own!
The rooms are cleaned every day and are perfectly clean! Again, the only problem with the room is the gap at the bottom of the balcony. We were on the 6th floor and the gap is so dangerous, even if you left a shoe out there and kicked it out by accident! But other than that they are great.
We ate out on a few nights as we got a little bored of the food, but for what we paid we had money to spend on a few treats!
The guys all went off for the Formula 1, and this year I decided I wanted a little 'me' time. I walked to the train station (approx 10 min walk) and got a train to Barcelona. It took about 40 minutes. It is definitely worth doing. I love that city!

I would also recommend the white horse. A great place for a drink and a bit of karaoke! Deano has been there for years and he is a fantastic guy who will look after you, bring drinks overs and generally make the most of your holiday!

Calella isnt the busiest of places, but we love it, and i would recommend it to anyone wanting some sun and relaxation! There are more details on my previous review if you want to know more! :)

Also, make sure you head to the beach. There is a H Top bar there that you get one free drink per day from. Its great if you fancy a wander!

Went with open mind having read previous reviews. 2 1/2 hrs coach transfer not impressed! But spend 15 euros in a taxi takes 30 mins. On arrival reception friendly but room not ready ! This was 1300hrs in the afternoon! Room small , dated but clean , served a purpose . Food was appalling !!! The hotel was noisy and overrun by rude , arrogant , loud , drunk German kids away without parents with no respect or consideration for others wanting to fight . Hotel did nothing to stop or dispel the out of control behaviour. The hotel even turned the air conditioning off in the middle of the night to save money! Overall absolute rubbish. This is not a place for families with young kids or for a quiet chilled time. Don't do it ! Book else where!!! ( 2 off duty english bobbies)
