Hotel Monica, has a fantastic location a short stroll to the sea in Cambrils.
Staff very helpful especially the evening barman who sings in the restaurant on his day off!

Not enought sun lounges, people get up early and put their towels on them despite a notice not to do so but this is not enforced, so difficult to get unless you're an early riser!

We had two rooms, a double and a triple. The triple seemed to be just another bed stuck in the room which left very little room.

Room Tip: We had rooms over looking the pool area.

Good morning Mr. Noel C,

Thank you for writing about your stay at the hotel. We are sorry about the sun loungers; we do our best to avoid people keep them with towels. Nevertheless, we will try to enforce it.

As for the room, the room with capacity for three people is 18m2 plus 5m2-bathroom. However, beds are 1.05m each one plus the extra bed. We are sorry that it did not reach your expectations.

We will pass your words to the singer; we are very glad to know you liked his singing.

Kind regards,

A lovely costal resort mixture of old and new. Full of Spanish locals and Spanish holidaymakers. Hotel is fab, clean good location, friendly staff, great food ( but not if you like typical English food). If you go to town away from the tourist areas you can still get menu del dia with wine four €8. Bus Plano goes to Reus, Tarragonna, Pineda, Salou, port Aventura and Barcelona 2 mins walk from the hotel. The bus is cheap, regular and air conditoned. They do excursions too if you are that way inclined.

We love this hotel and we're not disappointed on our return visit. The food was lovely snd you can change from dinner to lunch if you want to sample the local restaurants. My husband especially loved the seafood evening.

Booked through Thomsons, after reading many positive reviews of this hotel. Supposedly a Superior Room, sleeping 3. Room was in no way big enough for 2 adults and a child, let alone 3 adults, as 3rd bed is a sofa bed. The 3 beds were so close together they were touching. No floor space between beds. We had to move bedside table to enable me to get in and out of bed, which meant that we could not use the bedside light. We did approach the Manager to ask if we could be moved, she said that she would if a bigger room became available. We also spoke to the Thomsons rep. We heard nothing more. Bathroom has no ventilation, so mould is inevitable, corners of bath were black, seal also was discoloured, not surprised as would be difficult to clean without getting into the bath to do it. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We booked half-board evening meal was hit and miss, breakfast was very good.We have stayed in 3 star hotels which have had larger rooms, and bathrooms. Would suggest that Thomsons make it clear in their description of the rooms, that space is very limited when fully occupied.

Room Tip: Be aware rooms will be cramped if fully occupied.

Good morning Mrs. gillk94,

We are sorry that the room did not reach your expectations. The superior room you had is 18m2 (room space only, there is 5m2-toilet split into two and 4m2-terrace). However, beds are 1.05m each one plus the sofa bed. Those are our rooms with capacity for 3 people, and we are sorry you had not been properly informed about the meters of the room when you booked.

As for the ventilation, although some bathrooms have no windows, all of them have extractors. Nevertheless, we changed all the silicone around the bathtub; thank you for your advice.

Kind regards,

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to the Monica Hotel in Cambrils and once again the hotel didn’t disappoint. The hotel suits up perfectly with excellent accommodation and service.

Staff:

All the staff at the hotel are efficient, friendly and helpful. The maid service keeps the room very clean and keeps the bathroom stocked, the restaurant staff are attentive without being intrusive and the service at the bar is first class. Everyone seems to want you to have a great holiday. The reception being the focal point for guests is run very efficiently, from the speedy booking in to resolving of any issues quickly and satisfactorily.

Accommodation:

We travel with Thompson but upgrade to a superior with roof terrace directly with the hotel. These rooms offer space and as well as a balcony have a private roof terrace with furniture and sun beds, this space is great if you want to get away from it all.

Restaurant:

The service in the restaurant is first class, the waiters and waitresses are a happy bunch and make you feel very welcome, you can spend a couple of hours enjoying your meal.
The food is varied with a good selection although we did feel that there was a higher proportion of sea food this time which meant a little less choice, not too much is put out at a time which means the food is fresh and warm and there is show cooking, you can have a steak, burger, fish etc cooked to your liking, a good selection of salad and vegetables are available. A good selection of sweets are also available. Rice and pasta are generally available. Breakfast is the usual choice with cereal, toast, variety of fried food, eggs three ways, salad, cold meats and cheeses and much more.

Other facilities:

The hotel has a small but adequate Gym and a Relax Centre where you can get a massage and many other treatments.

Grounds:

The garden is very nice with the pool and adequate sun loungers, the pool is very well maintained, the water is not heated but the temperature is such that it doesn’t take long to get used to it. The grass area is immaculately kept. Most nights the hotel puts out bean bags on staging with soft lighting and mood music under larger shades, this is very relaxing, a good place to take a cocktail.

The area:

Cambrils is still a very traditional area with local shops, the harbour and the very good restaurants, if you want to practice your language skills this is a good place to visit. The evenings are very interesting as the place is very busy with families eating out, this goes on quite late. A steady walk takes you to the Old Town, lots of history and the site for the weekly market. You can catch a bus to many locations from the main stop on the sea front, this is only a 2 minute walk from the hotel and Cambrils is on the main rail line, 1 hour 30min to Barcelona.

We look forward to our next visit in 2015. Thank you all at Hotel Monica.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Superior for more space.

You are SUPER!

Good morning Mr. twoandtwo,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your stay at the hotel and especially for your lovely words about the staff. You are right, we want all our guests to have great holidays; this is our main goal!

As for the room, ¿do you like the new decoration of the roof terrace? We think turf is nicer than flagstone.

Regarding the garden by night, we call it Haima. It is our summer terrace with chill-out music and relaxing atmosphere. It is nice to know you like it.

We are very glad to know that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel one more year; and it is great to know that you are going to come back in 2015.

Kind regards on behalf of all the staff and thanks again for your words.

Very nice hotel and in a good location. Very clean, nice rooms but small balconies. Went here with my son and my partner. Not a hotel I would take children too as full of old people. Food was good when we ate in hotel, but mainly ate out a all the lovely restaurants in Cambrils. The rooms would benefit from a kettle and also a main light as very dark.
I do prefer self catering but that is a personal preference .
Pool area kept very clean .
wouldn't stay here again as was like an old folks home

Good morning Mr. J F,

It is nice to know that you enjoyed your stay in Cambrils and its gastronomy.

As for the children, the hotel has no entertainment for them; actually, we have no entertainment a part from the singer once a week in the evenings, because guests ask for tranquillity.

Regarding the room, we really appreciate your pieces of advice and we took note about the light in order to improve it.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay at the hotel.

We have just returned from a much needed week's break at the Monica Hotel. Our expectations were pretty high, based on what we had heard and read about the place and l am pleased to say that the plaudits are well deserved.

We had a room on the first floor, overlooking the pool area - it was a decent size, had a fair amount of storage space and was kept immaculately clean by the chambermaids. The dining room was spacious, the food good and varied - certainly no possibility of us going hungry there!

A special mention should be made of all the staff, from the smiling welcome we received at Reception on our arrival, to the lovely waiting staff in the dining room - they were, without exception, friendly and helpful. It looked to be a very happy workforce throughout the hotel.

There is an unwritten rule in our marriage that we never return to the same hotel twice on our travels outside the UK, which means it is unlikely that we will return to the Monica Hotel. Having said that, there are always exceptions to every rule, and maybe this will turn out to be that exception. Whatever, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, relaxing hotel in a typically Spanish resort.

Room Tip: Go for a room overlooking the pool area - l gather there are some that overlook a road and are subje...

Just returned from a fantastic two week holiday in Cambrils. A much needed break for my husband and myself. We stayed at the Monica two years ago and were so happy with this wonderful hotel that we returned this year. Yet again we had a fantastic stay and the staff are first class each and everyone of them and it says it all really that Monica has kept her Staff so it goes to show what a well run Hotel Monica is. Food excellent , fish amazing , I could go on and on . Thankyou to everyone at The Monica for making us so welcome again . Saving my pennies for the next visit.
