“If you are Spanish it will be ok.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

Visited for 6 days with my 14 year old son and Partner at mid-term. Have stayed in a few places in the area and would rate this lowest of all. Food buffet was poor at best and some of it totally un-recognisable. A few labels would be a great help. Very little regard given to non-spanish speakers. Signs for entertainment all in Spanish (and some Russian). Entertainment team were as bad as I've experienced and relied on shouting for effect. No attempt to translate which was a little unfair on a substantial number of English and french speaking kids. On Friday as it was a bank holiday there was a Spanish invasion and I must say (not the hotels fault) the most unmannerly bunch I have come across in years. Their behaviour in the restaurant was shocking and trying to get to the table without being knocked down by a speeding kid was a task in itself. Wouldn't go back and would not risk staying in a similar hotel on a bank holiday weekend. Hotel staff were very pleasant and courteous and it was not expensive and the location is good.

Just returned back from a 5 night stay ( 18-24th October) and have to say this is a decent hotel.
The location is right on the beach and it is a leisurely 30 min stroll into Salou
The communal areas are very nice worthy of a 4 star hotel, but the rooms could do with a little modernisation.
We stayed in room 378, which is directly behind the stage and has a great sea view, the rooms on the left of us had sun in the morning, and the rooms on the right had afternoon sun.
The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis, with the towels changed daily too if required.
The restaurant was very busy most meal times, but there was always ample food available. You are given a table at your first meal which is yours for your lunch and dinner, breakfast you just sit anywhere.
The only negatives about the food is that it caters for Spanish and Germans more than it caters for the English, and none of the dishes were marked out, so you didnt know what you were eating. eg the soup could of been labelled. There was always something "English" but not enough for fussy eaters like me ! Also the kids selection could of done with more choice, if I was to suggest an improvement to the hotel it would be to get a pizza oven for the kids and to label the food.
Would I stay here again ? the answer is yes, the only reason I`ve not given it 5/5 is because of the food.

Just back from holiday. The weather was fantastic for October although we heard that the previous week had not been so good. There were not many other British people in the hotel when we were there. The service in the hotel was excellent as was the food. The pool was great with plenty of sunbeds and literally a few steps from beach. The rooms were cleaned regularly. A fridge would have been handy, you had to pay if you wanted to use the locked mini bar. Quite quiet although you could hear trains in the middle of the night. Entertainment every night outside but it was in the bar area on our last night. The free wi fi can only be used in the bar area, ask at reception for code. Over all very good and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had rooms at the side, which was good as you had a sea view but no one looking on to you.

We stayed here from the 2nd-9th of October 2013 (2 adults & 2 kids aged 6 & 8) and was more than happy with the first impression of this hotel.

We arrived at 10:00 AM which we knew was too early for our room, but, the lady on the reception was very helpful and showed us where we could store our luggage and said our room will be ready for 12:00 PM and gave us all the information we wanted to know about the hotel (we had no transfer and got a taxi to the hotel from Reus airport which cost 32 euros).

Room was OK, kids beds were under the adults beds so all 4 beds were in a row when the kids beds are pulled out. Not the biggest room but it was just somewhere to sleep and shower! There is a safe and fridge in the room for an extra cost but we never used these facilities so can't comment them. Maid service everyday, made the beds, changed towels and mopped/swept all to a good standard.

We were staying on a full board basis and found the food to be good, we always found something to eat every meal time. It was set out in a buffet style with a separate kids section which was lower so they could reach. Breakfast was the usual beans, eggs, pastries, fruit etc which was the same everyday and you sat where you liked, when it came to lunch & evening meal though you were shown to your table and someone would take your drinks order. Food at lunch & dinner was a selection of fish, meat, veg, salads and sweets/puds (did I forget they had chips everyday too!?) food was always warm never once had a 'cold' meal that was meant to be hot. You can also order a packed lunch at the reception if you require, we did and the receptionist was again very helpful when it came to ordering it she even offered us an early breakfast on the morning we were doing a day trip to Barcelona!

Hotel and pool area very clean and modern. Plenty of seats outside by the entertainment area and loungers available by the pool, not a great amount of these but that might be because the beach is just opposite the pool! We did not have a problem getting a lounger though on any day of our stay, one criticism would be we seen no parasols around the pool area (might be due to lack of space around the pool).

There was entertainment every night, but, unfortunately this was on too late for us (22:30 some nights) as the kids were starting to fall asleep! We did enjoy the fact that when we did sit outside to enjoy a drink it was waiter service if you wanted, you could still go to the bar if you preferred.

Overall we had a great holiday at this hotel which is located on the boarder of Salou & Cambrils (20min walk to Salou and 5-10min bus to Cambrils) and the beach is directly behind the hotel. While we were there this hotel was mainly full of Spanish guests, but, this never bothered us one bit!

Thank you Hotel Augustus for a great stay!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms also give you a sea view, but, you hear the entertainment until it finishes.

We did 3 nights at the Augustus, which we booked based on reviews and our impression that it was actually in Cambrils town. In reality, it's about a block from the Salou boundary which worked great for us as it was only a 20 minute walk to the Salou train station.

The location generally was very good, on a nice beach, lots of restaurants around the hotel, bike rentals and supermarkets close by as well as bus stops.

We found the staff to be friendly and our room was clean with everything working. The bed was not great, but not bad, which would describe almost every bed we had in Spanish hotels. The nightly entertainment took place right below our room, which was not a problem. We had a good view of it and it terminated before midnight.

Negatives? Well, there was a charge for the WIFI in the rooms. Free WIFI was in the bar area and it was SLOW and spotty. The elevators are small and slow for this size of hotel. The breakfast seemed geared to Brits and Russians: lots of grease, beans resting in that red sugary sauce, cocktail wieners, fake orange juice, stale cereal, bread stuff, very little fruit. You could get yogurt and decent eggs. We were happy to eat lunch and dinner outside the hotel.

As others have noted, this is a family-oriented hotel, and the majority of guests during our stay were from Spain or Russia. This was fine with us, but if you're irritated by children...

Overall, a nice relaxing experience.

Room Tip: If you don't want the nightly entertainment noise, ask for an outward-facing room.

We had a great week at the Augustus, the location is fabulous right on the beach also the bus stop is just outside to the right for trips to Portaventura/Costa Caribe Water park. While we were there the hotel was mainly occupied by Spanish families. The food was buffet style with plenty of choice, my only criticism would be that the hot food wasn't as hot as I would have liked it. The rooms were adequate but what really impressed us was that the cleaners came in every day, changing the towels and bedding each day too. We really liked the Mambo beach bar right behind the hotel, and spent many a happy time having tapas or a jug of sangria there. The hotel swimming pool was lovely as it had a few areas with Jacuzzi jets which were very relaxing and it was great to be able to see the sea while we were sunbathing. We booked late and went with Travel Republic who we were very impressed with, great transfers and organisation. All in all we had a great week at the Augustus and thought Cambrils was a lovely place and will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a high floor, we were to the side but still had a sea view

Amazingly clean hotel. Great location next to the beach. Easy access to Cambrils, Salou, Tarragona, Reus, Port Aventura, Sitges and Barcelona with local bus. The bus stop is right beside the hotel (buy T-10 ticket for 10 trips). Friendly and helpful personnel in reception, restaurant and room service. Nicely organized entertainment every night. All facilities inside the hotel are air-conditioned. But unfortunately, have to mention that in our room air conditioner worked weaker than in the lobby and the restaurant. Great choice of dishes in the restaurant. Our special thanks to the restaurant's manager and staff for various and tasty food and fruits. I'd recommend to book half- or full board in advance, if you plan eating in the hotel. With this arrangement you will have a table reservation during your whole stay and enjoy your meal in peace and quiet. Otherwise you might wait in queue for a table and eat in rush hours. Once, we were late for our dinner and got this a bit stressful experience. By the other hand, when the restaurant is full, you can observe and admire high performance of the restaurant supervisor ensuring everybody gets seated. The pool area is overcrowded, but there is plenty of space on the beach (have to walk a bit along the beach to the right, because in front of the hotel the beach is full too). The sea is shallow, therefore nice and safe for kids. Overall, everything was nice, and my 12-year-old daugther wishes to visit Augustus again next summer.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the road and sounds of animation show didn't reach us at all. But still, on...
