“OK Holiday”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

Had 7 nights there, hotel is basic, clean, room well serviced. Room was small but adequate, staff very helpful. No drawers in room for storage but shelves in the built in wardrobe.
Restaurant evening opening was from 19:30 to 21:30, food was fine, breakfast was continental don't expect much in the way of hot foods but what was served was OK.
The location and transport were not as expected, the hotel is great for the beach (Beaches really good) but the hotel is approx. 1.12 miles from the town centre (I think in a straight line as I didn't measure it and by foot seemed more) so for anyone with problems walking its not ideal for getting to the town centre itself. There is bus into the town (No.1) which has a stop about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, this is a regular service which works well once times and stops have been worked out. There is also a "tourist train" which goes into the town centre and stops about 200 metres from the hotel but its times were erratic so we just had to hang about till it appeared, trying to get public transport times/routes virtually impossible, hotel staff did try and help but there were no timetables/route guides.
The area round the hotel is naturally quiet with plenty of small shops nearby but during our stay end of September/beginning of October a large proportion of shops and hotels were closed early for the winter due to the shortage of tourists, so what was intended as a quiet holiday was a very, very quiet holiday.

We found the Hotel itself to be very clean, but sadly in need of a good revamp (tired grouting and plumbing in bathroom). Our room (311) was quite small, with an equally small balcony overlooking the terrace bar below and the Consul Park apartments opposite. Whilst we expected to have to pay for use of the room safe (27 euro for our ten night stay), we weren't paying 20 euro (refundable) for the rooms TV remote,as the only English channel was BBC World news. The hotel food selection was rather dissapointing, catering more for the eastern european guests (lots of Russians),not even traditional Catalan or Spanish fayre. Breakfast was continental-style (croissants & cold meats), although we did have bacon & eggs one morning ! You're not allowed to take any food from the restaurant, and the restaurant manager (Antonio) was very alert to transgressors ! Anna & Pilli, the waitressess worked their hearts out alongside him, always with a smile and friendly "Hola" or "Adios",keeping the place running smoothly. Unfortunately there were no menu cards or description boards above the dishes, so sometimes it was pot luck as to what you were eating. Dessert was even more limited, with either fresh fruit and/or a small ice-cream pot, and jelly or creme catalan on some evenings (no cakes or gateau). The hotel pool is quite small and cold as it only gets the sun from mid to late afternoon, but the comfy loungers are ok (tip: use the much better pool at nearby Camping Solmar). The hotel bar is light and airy, with a soft-seat lounge area tucked round the side, and pay-as-you-go internet point in the corner. There are several mini-markets,and tourist shops nearby, along with local bars, restaurants,& even a small amusement arcade (for those rainy days). In short, I would stay here again, but probably just on a room-only basis.

On the plus side : hotel is close to the beach and has a pool (which is really small and only gets the sun in the afternoon). There are also plenty of shops nearby. It is also quite clean.

On the minus side: we had a tiny room with hardly any spare room apart from 3 beds. We also had a really small balcony with two chairs (there were 3 of us). The TV in the room was the smallest we'd ever had, with no remote and too high to reach. The food was rank! If your idea of fun is queuing for over 10 minutes for the coffee machine in the morning, then this is the hotel for you. There was no fresh fruit at breakfast and a limited range of cereals. The evening meal was really disappointing, cheap cuts of meat, not very nice salads.

Blanes is a nice resort, would especially recommend the Botanic Gardens. The beaches however were overcrowded, but then again we did go in the Summer holidays.

I have recently returned from a 5 night break at the Stella Maris and I would recommend it to anyone. It is in a great location, very clean and the staff are very helpful. The food was lovely with something different each night. There is a lovely little swimming pool which gets the sun in the afternoon. My 2 daughters loved it there and we would go there again. Blanes is a beautiful place ,especially the botanical gardens and the beach.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are probably quieter if you have children

First impressions were above expectations, clean, modern - more modern than the pictures depict. The receptionist was very friendly and knowledgeable. We stayed in the hotel (not self catering apartments) on a B&B basis. Lovely room on the 5th floor over the pool with views of sea and mountains. We had read that there were no kettles in the room so brought our own. The catering staff were excellent we were permitted to borrow cups for our room. I have a dairy allergy and although they did not provide Soya milk at breakfast they did allow me to buy some and keep it a fridge that I could access myself. Breakfast was a varying continental buffet with hot and cold items, usually egg, chorizo and beans, cereal, pastries, cold meats and cheese. On Sunday they had Cava, Churros and hot chocolate! We had to pay extra to use the safe otherwise no hidden costs - free air con.
The resort itself was frequented mostly by locals evenings and weekends - a really good sign, nothing like Tossa or Lloret - no tacky English bars. The town of Blanes was good for shopping. Transport was good, we got the bus to Girona one day and the train to Barcelona for a day trip. We also spent a day at Water World which was excellent. The beach and sea were perfect. Lots of restaurants and tapas bars, lovely Cava.

Stayed here for a short break 22 June - 26 June. Hotel spotlessly clean, our room was quite small but comfortable for our short stay ( possibly why we were allocated this room ) All the staff were pleasant and friendly. We stayed on a half board basis and the food in the restaurant was good and well presented with a good selection to choose from. The pool area is quite small and spartan but the beach is only about 200M away.
Blanes is beautiful low key resort frequented by many Spanish tourists, great if you are looking for a chill out time in the sun with picturesque surroundings.

Convenient for the beach literally 2 minutes walk. We had 2 apartments (6 pax each) 711 and 712, first floor. Although located next to the street, it wasn't too bad as it was off season. The noise mainly came from the rubbish collection truck at around 1am :-(. I would like to commend all staff we met for their excellent customer service skills. Joanna (receptionist) for the smooth check-in and for showing us the apartments, Antonio for making us feel welcomed and showing us our reserved dining tables, Ana and Juan Carlos for keeping the dining experience exceptionally pleasant, Alvaro (night receptionist) for the accurate description and instructions on how to get to Barcelona safe and sound using public transport and of course the cleaners for the spotless rooms. The two 2-bedroom apartments exceeded our expectations in terms of cleanliness and overall quality. The pool was small and most of the pool area was under the shade of the building but hey, the beach is a short walk. The kids had a great time in the esplanade with their skateboards. The final verdict is .... yes, this is a 3 star hotel but with 5 stars service, sure winner! Would definitely recommend, no hesitations whatsoever!
