“In the heart of the village..”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Guarda is a beautiful and very remote village with lovely people living there. It is the best place to unwind, surrounded by borders (Italy and Austria within half an hour) and mountains.

Romantic rooms in Val Tuoi are very inviting: traditional, cosy wooden chalet style. Bathroom and entrance area though should be renovated to meet all expectations. Small SPA area to chill out. Good breakfast and food available.

GUARDA IS A REALLY STUNNING PLACE.

Room Tip: romantic big rooms are not very big, but very nice, although bathroom is old.

Thanks you very much your compliment. We are happy to read that you have enjoyed the beautiful village of Guarda, the rustic-style romantic rooms and our traditional Engadin house.
We hope you will come back to Guarda sometimes.

When we first rounded the bend and saw the village of Guarda, high on the mountain top, we couldn't believe our luck. This was truly a fairytale village. Everything is exactly as you would imagine-beautiful chalets with bright flowers in flowerboxes, cowbells, paths heading into the mts at every juncture, and the most beautiful views of the Swiss Alps you would ever see. We stayed at the Boutique-Hotel Romantica Val Tuoi for four nights. We had booked through Booking.com, which is probably why we were placed in a room in the annex, and not in the main building. Our room was small and didn't have a mt. view. It also didn't have wifi. This wouldn't have been a problem, but since we were there for four nights, we had to use our iphone in public places-like the lounge and restaurant.
The location of the hotel was perfect, and it had private parking places. The staff was as kind as could be, and they purchased special gluten-free food for me. If I were to go again, I would stay in the main hotel and not in the annex.

If you are looking for old world charm, a stunning setting, great service and food, then you will love this little hotel! It's run with care and attention and is a great base to explore the stunning lower Engadine area. We arrived on a sunny Saturday and had a lovely lunch in the hotel's small garden overlooking the mountains. It's a perfect spot for lunch or a glass of wine after a days hiking.

Dinner that night was in one of the hotel's charming wood panelled rooms - it's just delightful! The meals are home cooked using local ingredients - all of my four dinners were quite delicious! The rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet ( and the church bells stop at night) What more could you ask for?

Guarda is a spectacular village with the most beautiful architecture. It's isn't over run by tourists ( thank goodness) and is in the most spectacular setting. If you arrive by train and then post bus, it's even better as the village unfolds itself as you wind through the narrow streets to the centre of town. There are fantastic hikes from the hotel in every direction with lots of contrasting scenery. We walked up to the SAC hut and the Blue Lake which was a great hike.

I am shortly returning to the hotel with friends from Australia and I can't wait to bring them here. They will just love Guarda!

Room Tip: I was worried about the very loud church bells but they stop at night. Both my rooms were quiet.

Originally we were only going to be in Guarda for one night. Due to circumstances with a rental in Porlezza we left a day early and we were so happy we did. The hotel responded quickly to our last minute request. The young lady that worked there was so nice and personable. If only we had an extra day or two there. Our room was impeccably clean, up to date with a kitchenette which was a nice. The room had a rustic, but modern feel. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was very good. We loved the crisp air, and saw the stars like we have never seen them before. We have travelled through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy and this has been favorite destination so far.

We are just back from a 3 day trip to Romantica Val Tuoi in the stunning village of Guarda. We had such a lovely time and found the Activity package we booked great value for money.
Guarda and the surrounding areas are absolutely stunning and we spent a wonderful 3 days hiking, walking, running and cycling.
The hotel itself is really nice mostly due to the warmth and friendliness of the owners. We had breakfast every day, a picnic lunch and a dinner. The dinner was soooo good, highly recommend the food.
Our room was basic but had every thing we needed, the only slight inconvenience is that we did not get mobile signal in our room.
We also used the spa quite a bit, which was really lovely after a long day hiking/ cycling.
We really enjoyed our stay here and are looking forward to returning.

My wife and I stayed four nights in a room with a mini kitchen, across the street from the main hotel. Everything about the room, pension, and village was perfect for our first nights in Switzerland. The Lower Engadine and Guarda in particular are the best of choices for soaking in the mountains, flowers, trails, and culture of this less visited region. We only wish we had stayed longer.

Room Tip: Choose the mini-kitchen units for the convenience or a view room in the hotel if you feel you will b...

This small inn is an absolute gem. Everyone from the chef to the housekeeper to the manager took a personal interest in our family and its enjoyment of Switzerland's best-kept secret. My husband and I stayed in what is likely the inn's best room, the top suite with a large balcony overlooking the mountains. My three sons stayed in two adjacent rooms a floor below us. All of the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms exceptionally spacious by European standards. We had excellent meals at the restaurant at the inn; the soups and salads were especially flavorful. I had sprained an ankle at our previous stop in Grindelwald and within moments of our arrival Hans, the owner and manager, had sent for the village nurse. She responded with the perfect homeopathic and allopathic blend of remedies. God willing, we will get back to Guarda and to Romantica Val Tuoi. What a truly wonderful experience.
