“hope to come back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2013

Very pleasant place with wonderfull dishes. They make perfect Risotto, spareribs, nyoki. They also have a good local wine. Only one problem: There is no English menu (only Italian) and the waiters don't speak English, too.
But I really like this place!

“Not an enchanting evening....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2012

We wanted to take our nephew to Loverciano for his first taste of venison on his last evening with us before returning home. When shown to our seats I was shocked to see that just a few tables away a family of five were dining and that a child of about five was being "entertained" by an Ipad or Ibook which was faced towards the rest of the room....with the volume on. If parents are unable to take their children out for a family meal in a restaurant without the support of IT I suggest that they all stay at home and practise the art of conversation instead.... However the fact that the proprietors allowed such an intrusion is astounding.

The first courses were good but the desserts were a huge disappointment - a mille feuille which lacked some 997 feuilles with a pale and tasteless cream filling which might just have seen a solitary egg and the chocolate pudding's vanilla sauce was also anaemic, thin and insipid.

All this with the child's abandoned cartoons as "background music" and a bill for nearly 200chfrs for three.....not good enough and we have vowed not to go back.

“typically local”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We like to have lunch or dinner there in summertime in the freshness of the chestnut trees enjoying the typical local cuisine.

“Good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2012

Typical tessinois food all well presented and well cooked with a menu which follows the seasons. Do not expect any experimentation or wild combinations but basic decent food.

“Nice grotto serving local food from Ticino and grilled meat - Big seating area outside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2010

This is a grotto (restaurant) where they serve the local food from Ticino like polenta, rabbit, etc. The also have a large choice of grilled meat. I suggest "costine di maiale" (grilled ribs, Ticino style).
The restaurant is located 2km from the centre of Mendrisio direction "Valle di Muggio", just before arriving at the small village called Castel S.Pietro. the grotto is located in the woods, away from the traffic or streets, but it's good indicated. Free parking.
Ambience: very nice expecially outside. They have a big garden/square plenty of tables unter the threes.
Suitable for families with children too. They have a small garden where the children can play while the adults are eating.
